I loved it! It gets real hard real fast, especially if you don't pick the optimal debuffs in early game. Good job! I managed to get 54, 75 is insane!

Honestly cool and creative game. I haven't seen pong remake like this. I got 66 at best while trying to beat your best. Good job!
Really really nice, I loved how every upgrade you are forced to make the situation worse for yourself xD
Great fun! Only wish I could have navigated the upgrades choices with the arrow keys and not only mouse hover.
@ntmalichi Thanks a lot for playing! 54 is already a very decent score, well done! Yeah, the 75 was a very lucky run I think
@online-play Ooh, 66 is really good! Thanks a lot for playing!
@half-and-half Thanks a lot for playing! :D I am happy you like it. I actually implemented selecting the upgrades with the arrow keys, but unfortunately it doesnt seem to work in the browser version :/ It does work for the windows version though.
Challenging and funny. Nice idea

This is the best I could do.
Initially I thought this is very easy, I would score more than 100, then came the mandatory choice of more balls.
Crazy idea of making the upgrades actually downgrades, thereby making the players try and decide the lesser harmful one.
First of all, this is DIABOLICAL:
Secondly, this is the best I could do so far:
I am keeping the files on my laptop in case I want to revisit and try again for a better score!
I think I gave it almost 10 tries for sure, and I have to say luck is a big factor in how well the run goes. My best score is from the 3rd try. It seems that downgrade options are chosen at random, so that's a big factor. Sometimes I got the DIABOLICAL choice right in the beginning :') And some "downgrades" are definitely less punishing than the others.
I really enjoyed the game overall!! It feels nostalgic (definitely played something like that as a kid on PC) and super polished (like a complete released game), with cool visuals and sounds; it is also addicting (the competitive spark in me wants to get a higher score, so that also motivates more tries, but it's also just fun); and the concept of downgrades I maybe have seen before, but it still feels fresh and original :) And in my opinion it is still enjoyable, and it could be hard to balance, but you definitely achieved a golden middle (I don't remember the saying in English well... happy medium? xD)
If I try again and get at least 76 I will be sure to let you know >:)
Almost 😅

Very fun game and cool idea to use the theme as game mechanic! I noticed that the downgrades are based on the score. Maybe using a timer here could be a bit more interesting, because this would allow for stategies like adding more balls and increase speed to collect more points early before more downgrades are forced. Also small nitpick: It would be nice to be able to select the downgrade with an arrow key.
But still made a lot of fun!
It seems I keep my throne for now! :D
@nitesh Hehe, thank you for the nice words. The idea of forcing the ball upgrade was actually from a friend of mine when we were playtesting. It was an amazing idea :D
@kanity Im happy you liked it :D 55 is a very respectable score! The forced choice of adding a ball is actually only supposed to appear when your score is multiple of 25 >_< For some reason it sometimes also appears very early on, which makes the game super difficult
@oadt Woah, thats really close :O Very impressive! Interesting idea to make the downgrades depend on time, it could indeed add a more strategic element to choosing downgrades. Choosing with the arrow keys actually worked in the editor and on the windows version, but it does not in the browser :/ I might try to fix that when I have the time.
52.. It's a fun game. Old pong tech with some twists. I really like the upbeat music, getting you to the groove~ I wonder if having occasional good upgrades would affect the game positively.
Good work!
What a solid game ... an entry I would likely at some point want to play again... and that doesn't happen that often. God job with this 👍
Damn it, that was close. Really interesting idea. Was fun to play and try to get less negative "upgrades" :D photo_2026-10-21_16-48-47.jpg
Really cool entry! The core idea of "downgrades" is very creative, and adds an interesting twist to the classic Pong mechanics. The CRT effect and minimalist visuals work well with the theme. Nice!

I've tried my best 😆
Well, I was thinking of this for one day, so I comeback and finally managed to beat the record 🎊 photo_2026-10-22_17-27-57.jpg
I like the juicy look! Pretty fun and sounds nice too. Difficulty might ramp up a bit too fast and after a while I felt like I barely got to play between choosing downgrades since the "score to downgrade" doesn't scale and is always 5 points.
Snipaste_2026-10-22_00-10-18.png I tried, but I really couldn't handle the multiball chaos near the end lol, the wall angle "upgrade" feels like a freebie and the max life reduction is still manageable, but multiball is the real game changer here...
It's really fun! All the little details feel super polished, and I love how this is basically a classic boons & banes selection system but with a twist that every choice makes the game harder, so you have to weigh your options and pick the least destructive one. It's pretty uncommon to see a negative upgrade system used to ramp up the difficulty instead of making the player stronger, but I think it works really well for this game.
Nice one as always!
The funniest game I've played this jam, and stylish too! That "choice" with no real choice really had me stressing out :)
Really fun game. The look and sound work well to set the mood. I do not do well with multi ball.
I always love simple games that are executed well with a lot of polish and this is no different. What an interesting take on pong, and the random negative upgrades really make you want to keep trying again, cause surely this next run will be the one lol Really really love the CRT effect, and the music and audio work great together. Great entry!
Really liked the "reverse upgrade" idea and the overall style, you can't really go wrong with ponglikes (it's like roguelite... but pong... get it... :D)
I managed to get 65 points on my second try! If I could improve it, my only ask would be to spawn balls in a bit more fair spot (they spawned low, static, and started moving in a very unpredictable way), and maybe also make upgrade screens more "fair" (when they appear, balls disappear and spawn at the top, for example). Hope that makes sense :D
This is excellent! I love a good LD highscore competition.
The thing that always messed me up is that, after picking a downgrade, the action starts right away. This is always where I'd drop balls, just from switching from controlling the UI to controlling the bat, and being taken out of the flow. I think perhaps it would be an improvement if the game ramped up to normal speed slowly after resuming, or something like that. Even just a pause. Or if you want to be kinder, reset the balls? Or set their velocities all to up? Just something to stop an immediate loss after the choice screen.
I am amazed with the number of comments I got, even though I didnt have time to play many games myself last weekend! Thank you all very much for playing and giving feedback! ^_^
@pazio-di-dante Wow, well done! :O I was wondering if anyone was going to beat my score, but you did it. Congratulations! :D Also thanks a lot for coming back to my game a day later! I am flattered ^.^
@silkworm-sweatshop Thanks a lot for the nice feedback! I agree with you that near the end you have to choose downgrades too quickly. Perhaps a timer would have been better after all, as another commenter suggested.
@foursay Thanks a lot for playing and for the nice feedback :D I agree that the wall angle upgrade is not so impactful. The idea was that the balls bounce downwards more quickly, but Im not sure if that is actualy the case.
@vary Thank you for your kind words! I am happy you felt the addictive loop ^^ Thats always a good sign for arcade games like this.
@outstar Haha, I like the ponglike :D Thanks a lot for the feedback. I agree, there seems to be a bug right now that makes new balls spawn weirdly sometimes :/ If this causes you to lose a life it feels very unfair. I should see if I can fix that sometime.
@rogual The balls slowly getting back to their original speed after choosing a downgrade is a very interesting idea! I agree that it might make the transition between choosing downgrades and playing pong more smooth/subtle. Thanks for the suggestion :D
