Pretty good game. The controls were a bit frustrating though. I think it might have been a little better if dashing was mapped to a separate button somehow. Getting to the top platforms was a little annoying because I kept banging my head on the platform above me and go crashing to the bottom level. The graphics and sound are great and overall the game is pretty fun.

orpheus 2026-10-19 21:16 ♥ 1

Really fun, challenging and addictive gameplay. photo_2026-10-19_23-15-40.jpg

lchaves 2026-10-20 01:38 ♥ 2

Simple and clean. Not having a dedicated button for the dash makes it a bit tricky, but that's how Pico8 rolls hehe

jacky-san 2026-10-20 18:45 ♥ 1

@ludumdaredevil @orpheus @lchaves Thank you all so much for taking the time to play the game! ✌️

@ludumdaredevil Yeah, I get that! But you know, PICO-8 is a 2-button fantasy console so I had to make some hard choices 😅 Regarding the platforms, a few friends gave me the exact same feedback! I definitely should have coded "one-way" collisions (pass-through from below). Thanks a lot for this honest feedback!

@orpheus Great job finishing it! 🏆 Did you find the balance too easy or too hard? (I spent the very last hours constantly tweaking timers and difficulty, haha 🙈)

@lchaves Thank you for playing! Yeah, that's part of the PICO-8 constraints and the rules of the game 😼

gamescodedogs 2026-10-20 19:00 ♥ 2

Nice 8bit mood!

kitmani 2026-10-20 19:07 ♥ 1

What I liked: - PICO-8 - Khidr from Rogue Legacy (lol) - Dynamic gameplay - Pixel graphics and music

A cool little game, feels nice. Passed on the second try, right as soon as I understood what needed to be done)

fancyreckless 2026-10-20 19:30 ♥ 1

neat vibes, love that boss follows you with an eye and overall pretty polished and fair game as in it telegraphs stuff and communcates clearly. Theme feels a bit forced, tho I can see it being fair since there's an old videogame vibe.

jacky-san 2026-10-20 19:37 ♥ 1

@gamescodedogs @kitmani @fancyreckless Thank you so much for playing and taking the time to drop a review! ✌️

@gamescodedogs Thanks! Always trying to squeeze the best retro juice out of PICO-8! 👾

@kitmani Haha, Khidr! Now that you mention it, I can't unsee it! 👁️ I played SO MUCH Rogue Legacy back in the day, my subconscious definitely took over! Glad you enjoyed the loop and beat it on your second try! Good job!

@fancyreckless Thank you for the detailed feedback! I really spent time polishing the telegraphs and visual cues so the chaos would feel fair. Fair point on the theme—I leaned heavily on the "OLD hardware / CRT / old rusty boomerang" interpretation, but I'm glad the retro arcade vibe worked for you!

eugenik 2026-10-20 22:36 ♥ 1

Reminds me of old games from my childhood, very well done!

skigfx 2026-10-21 10:45 ♥ 1

Okay, first of all, huge respect for such a clever and elegant take on the theme! I think this is the most original interpretation I've seen in the entire jam.

And yeah, I agree with the previous comments — being able to jump onto platforms from below would be a very welcome addition!

jacky-san 2026-10-21 16:17 ♥ 0

@eugenik @skigfx Thank you both so much for playing and for the awesome feedback! ✌️

jacky-san 2026-10-21 16:17 ♥ 1

@eugenik Haha, mission accomplished then! Bringing back those childhood arcade memories was exactly the goal. Thanks a lot! 🕹️

@skigfx Wow, thank you! I'll take that as the ultimate compliment! 😼 (Whether you meant the meta-retro loop of using old hardware/boomerangs on a PICO-8, or if my theme interpretation was just wildly off-the-wall, I love it! 😂)

And 100% noted for the pass-through platforms—if I ever release a post-jam version, one-way collisions will definitely be the first thing I code! Thanks again for stopping by!

skigfx 2026-10-21 16:31 ♥ 1

I was actually referring more to the use of fictional retro technology. I thought using PICO-8 as a retro console was your way of interpreting the jam theme. :D

jacky-san 2026-10-21 16:43 ♥ 1

@skigfx Ah, brilliant! That makes me even happier! 😃 You totally hit the nail on the head: making a game about old tech inside a fantasy retro console felt like the ultimate meta playground for this jam. Glad you appreciated that angle! Thanks again for playing and for the great chat! 🪃📺

tykki19 2026-10-21 19:43 ♥ 1

I was lured in with style but I have to admit the platforming seems not to be my strength. Nothing really to complain about the game: compact, stylized, easy to understand. Well done... again!

jacky-san 2026-10-21 20:07 ♥ 1

@tykki19 Thank you so much! Always awesome to see a familiar face from previous jams! 😃

Don't worry about the platforming, those old CRT space stations aren't meant to be easy to navigate anyway! 😜 Glad you enjoyed the compact style and overall vibe. Thanks for stopping by once again, really appreciate it! 🪃✨

miguel-monteiro 2026-10-21 20:43 ♥ 1

Smart little game! Simple premise, but great execution and polish, especially for a jam game. Controller recommended 😜

jacky-san 2026-10-22 16:44 ♥ 2

@miguel-monteiro Thank you so much for playing! ✌️ Haha, glad you enjoyed it with a controller—dashing with the D-Pad definitely feels much more natural than on a keyboard! Thanks a lot for the kind words on the polish! 🎮🪃

andriybyelikov 2026-10-22 16:51 ♥ 2

I managed to beat it, but I think there are not enough opportunities to use the dash in such a cramped space, especially the up dash.

jacky-san 2026-10-22 16:58 ♥ 3

@andriybyelikov Congrats on beating it! 🏆 And thanks a lot for the honest feedback! You're totally right—in such a tight space, pulling off an up-dash without slamming into a platform ceiling is tricky business. I mainly added the dash as a quick dodge mechanism to avoid laser damage, but it's definitely hard to master in such a confined area. Thanks for playing and reviewing! 🪃✨

nesmon 2026-10-22 18:59 ♥ 3

A cute game really! I felt nostalgic about my grandma house! Also the game is funny. You rarely can find the game with the same mechanics! Thank you a lot <3

mikoolec 2026-10-22 22:50 ♥ 0

Simple and fun. It could really use a dedicated dash button.

jacky-san 2026-10-23 07:14 ♥ 0

@mikoolec Thank you for playing and for the feedback! ✌️ Yeah, the missing dedicated dash button is definitely the most requested feature! PICO-8 and its strict 2-button limit forced some tough design choices 😅 Glad you still had fun with it! 🪃✨

bloodbane 2026-10-23 08:57 ♥ 1

Nice boss battle game! It doesn't feel old tech to me but it is good enough for a boss fight.

jacky-san 2026-10-23 16:19 ♥ 0

@bloodbane Thank you for playing and for the feedback! ✌️

johnnysix 2026-10-24 12:36 ♥ 0

Took a few deaths to figure what I was doing haha. Thought when I hit the glitches I was getting a dodge upgrade rather than being told where to attack. My lack of dexterity didn't allow me to get to the upper levels very easily, and like others got caught on the single block bit where it's directly under another platform. I don't think it'd make it TOO easy if you made them jump-through instead of solid.

The lazers and incrementing difficulty as the AI gets taken out was well done. 😄

jacky-san 2026-10-24 16:25 ♥ 0

@johnnysix Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! ✌️

Haha, that's really interesting about the glitches! I can totally see how it could look like a power-up cue rather than a target signal—visual clarity is always a fun challenge to balance in a jam.

And you're 100% spot on about the jump-through platforms! Seeing how many players get caught on those lower blocks, making them pass-through from below would definitely smooth out the movement without breaking the challenge.

Really glad you enjoyed the laser mechanics and the escalating difficulty as the AI breaks down! Thanks a lot for taking the time to play and write such a thoughtful review! 🪃✨

alexandru-barbanoua 2026-10-24 22:13 ♥ 0

Great PICO game! Really enjoyed the gameplay. It's challenging but fun, just like a good platformer should be. The boss fight was a nice touch too! Great work!

jacky-san 2026-10-25 16:04 ♥ 0

@alexandru-barbanoua Thank you so much for the kind words! 😃 Hearing that the balance between challenge and fun hit the spot makes all the jam crunch totally worth it! Really glad you enjoyed the boss fight as well. Thanks a lot for taking the time to play and review! 🪃✨

hinamarina 2026-10-27 02:27 ♥ 1

Fun game! :) The controls felt very polished, specially in the movement/jump. The boxy collision shape of the character gave the jump almost a coyote time feel (even tho that might actually be a coyote time here, I would not get surprised cause it feels really nice!) and made jumping through the platforms quite nice! That said, I feel that I found myself hitting my head in the platforms and messing the jump 'cause of that in a way that felt a lil' bit unfair sometimes, but that might be a matter of getting more used to it too! One way collision in the platforms might have solved this, but I also feel that it would remove a part of the texture of the gameplay (like the nice jump from a bottom platform to a upper one might get too trivial that way), so that's something to think about 😃 I only found out about the dash halfway through, but to be honest I didn't needed it at all in the entirety of the battle, as long as I kept moving. Maybe mapping it to one of the shoulder buttons might made its usage a little bit more intuitive. My biggest grip controlwise was with the boomerang, I felt that using the d-pad to control both the direction of the shoot and your movement at the same time was kind of too much for me lol specially in such a fast pacing game, so I ended up only throwing it sideways always (and ignoring when the green block appeared upwards or downwards).

The graphics felt really nice, the usage of color is quite interesting! The sound design is also really good, fits perfectly the vibe of this fast pacing biomech-scifi atmosphere! In general, a very impressive and solid entry, with the right amount of challenge! Thank you for the game! :)

@hinamarina Wow, thank you so much for this incredible and super detailed feedback! 🥹❤️

You actually nailed something very subtle about the platform collisions: I hesitated a lot about one-way collisions precisely because I was afraid it would make navigation too trivial and strip away that tight, tense arcade texture. Hearing your take on that balance is super reassuring! (And good eye—there is indeed a tiny bit of coyote time baked in to keep the movement feeling snappy! 😉)

Your feedback on the boomerang aiming with the D-Pad makes total sense too. Combining directional shooting with fast-paced movement on a single D-Pad within PICO-8’s 2-button limit is definitely a lot of mental gymnastics!

I'm super happy you enjoyed the color palette, the sound design, and the overall biomech-scifi atmosphere. Thanks a million for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review! 🪃✨
