Nice to play! Like the interesting mechanic)
Interesting and unique mechanic! It is a bit counterintuitive but once you learn how it works it's ok. I think it's a bit awkward how the blocks don't line up perfectly and how the player is one block inside the platform for some reason, and some sfx would be nice. Overall a nice entry!
Couldn't find a reason to press any button other than 7. Maybe put a collectible at the end of each platform?
I think I missed something? There are a few things that did not work as I expected: - pressing 8 does not change the next platform's length. - pressing 7 is always enough to get to the next platform, I reached a score of 100 and then stopped. - twice toward the beginning a platform spawned at the top of the screen, making it unreachable.
I see some potential for a rhythmgame and I really like the music in your game
some bugs I noticed: - you actually only use buttons 1 to 7, instead of 1 to 8 - playing one very long run has no repeating background music (noticed at around 100 steps) - you can restart the game, but the slime isn't jumping then
some improvement suggestions: - if you align the platforms in a grid, it is visually more distinguishable which length you actually need - you should punish the ones only using the 7 all the time (like for instance grant points depending on the accuracy of your choice, or let it drop if the platform is too high) - you could let the platforms first exit the screen before removing them, as it breaks the immersion for suddently disappearing - add some tempo variety, like "now three quick platforms" or let it jump directly on button press (instant reply, you could make a race for quickest victory)
I also immediately arrived at the "just press 7" strategy, which is game-breaking. I think there is some missing logic? There is something hypnotic about the visual flow and timing, so I think this could be great once fixed up.
I'm not sure how much of a _game_ there is here, to be honest. In concept the idea sounds fine but in reality you can just press 7 repeatedly (8 doesn't work) and get as high a score as you want. There's no way to be "good" or "bad" at the game. I only eventually died because a platform spawned at the top of the screen, rendering the game impossible. After that the slime just wouldn't move at all.
Perhaps only the last tile of each platform could be collideable? That would, at the very least, give the player reason to press literally any other button except 7, and would add some element of skill to the game.
Not a terrible start, but as it stands there isn't a whole lot to discuss. You've experienced the sum total the game has to offer quite literally three seconds into the game.
The ideia is interesting and the art is very cute, however, as others have said, there's not much of a challenge. I would suggest instead of ellongating the platforms, keep them at 1 tile and just move them to the spot the players has pressed... That way there is no way to cheat! hehe
The best game i played on this ludum dare so far. Thank you!.
@eugenik Thanks, what did you like best?
Nice visual and music! I love pixels.
But mechanic is too easy for now. As mentioned above, all you can do is just pressing 7. I think that height of the platform should match slime's height at least. It will make me to choose right number for next platform.
Anyway, you are awesome, my friend ^_^
It needs polish, but it has potential, for now, it’s the cutest little game ever. Keep it up!
@she-wrote Thank you, Will do!
@fis Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it
Yeah, as other have mentionned the "only press 7 strategy" removes any challenge, which is sad because the game could have some potential. It would probably be more challenging and fun if you could only land on the last tile.
Some actionnable feedback so you can improve for next Game Jam : I would recommend having a friend testing your game during the second day of the Jam to find those kind of issues before the end of the Jam ;)
The music and graphics are very cute
Fun idea and nice pixel art! Like the others have said though, the game is way to easy. but i could definitely see this being expanded upon!
It's a really neat idea, but I think there should be punishment for setting the platform too high, as others have said.
Unusual controls for the movement mechanics! Lovely color palette, and the first thing that stood out was the cloud dog!))))wefwef.png
Also immediately jumped to the strategy of press 7 repeatedly to win or not to lose to be exact. Maybe idea could be improved if you only had a limited number of blocks or if there was a mechanic of changing elevation of the jumping character and collecting something, like more blocks. And for me character also doesn't jump after restart just like @fis said.
I think there is some potential here, but right now you can just use 7 as long as you want to play.
I think it's been already said, but yeah, just playing 7 is enough to keep the slime moving forward :D
How do I play this? I can move the platforms, but I don't know how to move the character. It just sits there whatever I press and sometimes it jumps forwards after I repeatedly smash 1-8 keys. Do I need a controller?
@flying-dog-fish The player jumps automatically and you only have control with the platforms. I hope that helps
The pause menu is super nice! Hah, nice little game, although I just kept pressing 7 directly and that's it I guess. But the graphics are really nice. Maybe it you choose a key randomly and the player had to press that to make the next platform grow by one cube?
@halogen Well that helped a bit, but most of the time the character just doesn't want to start jumping. Once it starts, it seems to be working fine until a platform appears at the top of the screen and it's impossible to continue.
Good job!
Agreed with the 7-spamming method :see_no_evil: Maybe you could force the depth to be the exact value, it would made the player choose the good depth.
Also FYI, on your itch.io page, you still have a typo : "Controls 🕹️: 1/7 - One block platform / Eight block platform"
"Eight" instead of "Seven"
@deformhead Thanks for noticing that on my page, Im changing it right away. I appreciate the feedback as well
