The idea is interesting and controlling two rollbugs truely made the game a bit mess and caused nerve and fun :)

Fun character movement and super cool background/tile art. The mechanic introduced halfway through is a great change of pace. Love the little "eep" death sound effect lol. Congrats on finishing another compo!

The concept is really fun and adds an interesting element to the gameplay! The movement is smooth and the background and graphics are great. I especially liked the sound effects, like the cute "ep" when you die! πŸ˜‚βœ¨ the game is a lot of fun! πŸ‘ Keep up the good work!

The game is really charming in its presentation, pretty good art and music, sfx, but the core platforming mechanics are a bit of a mess. - Stick to walls to charge a jump? Well there's no indication of how much you've charged, sometimes I shoot right down off a wall, sometimes not. Not really sure how that works. The most consistent way I've found to jump higher is to stand in place and hold up and you'll jump higher and higher? Seems so? - The bug is always animating in the same spin regardless of going left or right, that should be a fairly easy sprite change, little details like this make platformers feel alive and responsive.

I feel like the art style fits this type of game well. I also love that twist where another bug is added and you now have to play the levels again in reverse with two bugs and more monsters. I was on the edge of my seat!

A few notes, though: - As tuism has said there's no way to know how much you have charged, or even if you are charging at all. Some change to the sprite to show that you're charging would be nice. - The hitbox for the playable bugs feel a bit weird. Sometimes I feel like I should slide past a corner but performed a charge roll against the wall instead. This becomes prevalent in the stage where you have to jump through a 2 block wide gap while running away from ghosts. - I feel that the sound at the end of the game doesn't fit the ending, it feels a bit too chaotic.

Overall a good concept that can shine a lot more after a bit of post-jam polishing. Great job on the compo entry!

Really fun concept! The movement feels smooth, and I love the art style. The idea of controlling two bugs adds a cool twist to the gameplay. The charge mechanic was a bit unclear, though, it would help to have some visual feedback when charging. Overall, it’s a neat game that could shine even more with some polishing. Gj!

Liked the backgrounds and overall art for the game, they're really experimental. The music is fine, just wish the movement was more predictable, varying between being floaty and heavy. Solid entry! Immersive

I really love the game's art and music, and the gameplay is very innovative. The rollbug is adorable, but there seemed to be some code errors at the start. Overall, good job!

tad-i-guess 2024-10-08 19:19

@tuism Thanks for the feedback! Definitely a few bugs to iron out post-jam, will for sure make the character turn around when facing directions, was very short on time and ended up forgetting about that. Oops!

@ramchops-games Thanks for the notes! The chaotic end music is a running joke where all of my games end with the worst songs possible, but for sure feels very out of place in this one haha.

@nazariglez Thank you very much for the kind words! Would love to do more with the charge mechanic in a later update.

@sdcorpse Yes, there is a note at the top of the page about this known issue. If you sit on the first level for too long, an object that I accidentally left in the room causes this, I didn't realize it until about 30 minutes after the deadline ended. It's the first thing I plan to fix post jam.

@satless Thank you! The art is the area I spent the most time on, so I really appreciate that.

@flewbimo Thanks! Yeah the error at the start is an object left in the first level accidentally that crashes if you sit on it for too long, I plan to fix this after the LD ends. I also think the rollbug is adorable, just a silly little guy.

Woah what a cool game! I absolutely loved it! The controls were super interesting and weird. I don't think I've seen controls like that anywhere before. They were difficult to get the hang of but near the end they somehow became intuitive and interesting nonetheless. I especially loved the second part of the game, controlling the 2 characters, one being protective and one being the one that needs to get to the goal. The last couple of levels were super hard but that made it even more fun when I beat them. Super interesting and innovative game. Oh and I am so excited about the gameplay that I almost forgot to mention that the graphics are also SUPERB! It's one of those games that are short but when you beat them you are already ready to start writing fan fiction. Good job! 10/10

Awesome entry! The controls gave me some trouble but I got the hang of it, like the aesthetics, well done!

ellaris 2024-10-09 20:47

I liked the background art and how you traveled back through the levels with the ability to destroy monsters.

+ Controlling two characters at once was interesting, although the ghosts made it a little annoying when the characters got stuck on walls. + It was possible to get stuck on walls, arbitrarily be able and unable to jump (it said beside walls, but I noticed that didn't seem to be the case) + It was annoying that you could "fall off" the level by going upwards (outside the room), I feel it should at least be a wall.

tad-i-guess 2024-10-10 00:03

@frostblooded Wow, thank you for such high praise! I'm glad you liked it, I was really happy with how it came out.

@stmate03 Thanks! The controls gave me trouble while playtesting at first too lol, I wasn't really sure it would work. After playing through and speedrunning a few times it started to click for me (deeeeeefinitely could use a little work still though!

@ellaris Thanks for the feedback! Completely agree that in a couple of those stages it can be annoying going too high and ending up out of bounds. If I expand on this later I think I'd like to have a camera and larger levels so you don't have to worry about that so much.

I totally relate to this game. My first game was in game maker, and it utilized 2 player characters controlled by 1 person. Your game is much cooler and more impressive though! I really loved the art style in particular. I found the player controller a bit frustrating.

pachino55 2024-10-11 18:50

This is so cool! Nice art

fint 2024-10-12 11:43

Good job on the sound and graphics!

I'm not sure I ever got the hang of the wall-sticking controls but I was able to get through everything maybe 'abusing' the ability to bounce yourself off of different surfaces, or sometimes I was able to just tap W repeatedly and float through the air more or less.

In general I think the controls could stand to be made a bit cleaner and more responsive.

Was not ready for the escort mission!

silkworm-sweatshop 2024-10-16 21:43

I really like they way you have to travel back and the different challenge it adds by having to clear enemies and escort the other bug. It got pretty hectic. The jump is very awkward to use though and I could never really get used to it but respawns are quick and I got through by the end. Nice artstyle too!

matchaberi 2024-10-25 21:48

Amazing graphics!! It's difficult to get used to controlling the rollbugs, but it's worth it.
