Just the fact that it has a tutorial takes this game to another level.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD55 → Protect the Summoner

Just the fact that it has a tutorial takes this game to another level.
I really enjoyed playing this! I really liked the field of view mechanic, it felt like a great combination of exploring and puzzles. Well Done!
Pretty cool!
I like the idea of being a guard for the summoners! Also enjoyed how the tutorial was integrated into the game so naturally
It would be great if I could leave the summoners at the circles and go defend from there. When I try to go defend them, they end up leaving the circle and breaking their chant. They also tend to get in the way of me defending them from the enemies.
The summoners tend to have a death wish sometimes and get in front of the guard even if I'm trying to make them go behind, but other than that it was very fun!
Awesome level design for the early tutorial/ramp up, and I also love the concept and the twist on the theme! I don't know if these mages are exactly summoners but it's good enough for me. Great work on the gameplay, but you really need sound controls (the game is very loud). Nice work!
@flamingrat Oops. Sorry 'bout that, it is only documented on the webpage, but you can press the minus or plus(equal) keys to raise and lower the volume. I'll add a note to this page as well.
I really like the shield mechanic, especially with the death anim it was a lot of fun to run enemies over. The summoners were a bit annoying to move, and would sometimes get stuck in front of the shield, but other than that the gameplay was really satisfying, nice job!
Love the wall effect for the visuals. The art is very interesting. Great hands on ending.
Thanks for making the game playable on mobile! Good tutorialization, simple controls, new take on the theme, I dig it!
The tutorial is a really nice touch, let me understand what was occuring really quickly. I found that the summoners would get caught in front of me and stuck to my shield. This made it easy for them to get hit. But I liked the mechanic of taking out enemies with the shield.
This is a really good base that you could expand into many different directions. (Upgrades, Bosses, Storied levels to list a few ideas) Solid. Had a great time playing it. Loved the sfx. I'm going to be running around like "Ow" for a week now :P I'd love to see what you do with it if you decide to expand it.
Definitely one of the best games I've played so far. Brillant atmosphere, good level design, and I love that you try to "get hit" by the enemies so the summoners don't, that is very novative imo. And of course, the built-in tutorial is great!
Oooodahlin ahhdoolaaooohhhinnn!
Fun but tough little game! Loved the chanting and the circles. Struggled to keep my summoner behind my shield, though!
Looks like a decent game. Easy to learn the basics, and fun to play.
The 2d light is very cool and nice in game tutorial to get players familiar with the mechanics! The summoner has dead animation love this fun detail
Wow the audio nails the mood so well! And the mood is well-supported by the gameplay, which does get tense. The art is a great fit, too.
It was cool how the angle changes the situation -- it's safe enough to travel left/right, but much more dangerous going up/down. Sometimes I would charge the eyes in a rush, or a a sweep back and forth. Other times I would stay still and just move up and down a bit like a pong paddle.
Few small splinters I'll mention but nothing that got actually frustrating: just walking, your summoner will get hit with eyes that simply spawn into him which felt a little unfair, when doing a left-right back and forth sometimes one of the summoners would pop out IN FRONT of my shield unexpectedly and take a slew of damage.
I enjoyed this and played to the end, with a few retries needed on level 4. Just the right length.
Great job!
Great concept. I was both amused and frustrated at the summoners always standing on both sides of me. It didn't take too long to learn to kite the summoners to get the in defense and not worry about having them stay in the summoner circle the entire time. I wish the summoners didn't get hit by spawning in eyes until their eyes opened, giving a little warning, otherwise they were always being hit when walking around by spawning in enemies, but didn't make it more difficult, so it might be too easy if you had warning
