cool arena massacre, I liked the effects of enlargement of opponents, and the background in the menu, I think it would be more fun if the ammunition would be more or they were infinite

very cool little game! I really like the AI in this game, since the attacks are well balanced and the unique attack patterns give some extra touch! I'm actually working on a little project myself where I'm trying to implement ai like that, so I'd also be extremly curious how you made it that smooth ^^ But nontheless really nice :D

lonelygamedev 2024-04-16 15:44

@jona-scheidig can you be a bit more specific on the ai? like smooth as like the animation. or do you mean the attacks are well telegraph?

jona-scheidig 2024-04-16 16:06

@lonelygamedev Well you blend them both very well ^^ For example the basic enemy has a really responsive attack, taking a step back to charge into an attack, which can take the player by surprise. And the hammer enemy making a big stomp. Really responsive. I'm currently trying to implement the sameish enemies. One of them being a ranged enemy and the other being a melee enemy :)

lonelygamedev 2024-04-16 16:36

@jona-scheidig they actually don't take a step back. I just created a start up animation. where the sword get's rised. and that goes into a attack animation. I also added a sound effect to that. And the stomping was actually quite simple. add a explosion sound to make it sound impactful. and a little dust effect. Another thing that I also did was when attacking. have the actual swing be like 2 frames. add a little flash sprite(or smear). then have the sword do a small rotation to simulate the feeling of it slowing down before it goes back to it's original animation

Great gamefeel! Keep making games and good job :fire:

Haha its awesome, gg doing this on your own. I just miss a bit of music (and a boss fight ?). Really liked the jumping guys. I think you could make switching weapon working with the mouse wheel for a slight control improvement

Great experience with the smooth animation and comfortable fighting feedbacks! Overall good, but I would argue that there needs more elements related to the theme.

cool game :D but bombs work weird

zerolarih 2024-04-17 15:36

I thought it was a fun game, but I found a bug at the beginning that gave me a softlock (but it's something that needs to be resolved), I wanted to test what 1,2,3 did and the cutscene triggered and the door at the beginning closed without I pass it but it's nothing like that, you did a good job

lonelygamedev 2024-04-17 17:57

@zerolarih oh yeah. did you throw a bomb?

I love the overall old school style. The menu music fits well (with a some silence between loops unfortunately), but is a bit too loud compared to the rest of the game sound fx (I had to turn down my volume and then the sfx were a bit quiet).

The combat feels fluid and the difficulty is fitting for the style of game. I wish more arrows/bolts were dropped as that weapon was my favorite to use, albeit shortly. Well done. :)

badrains 2024-04-23 22:27

As a fun of old school games, I liked this game. Sounds, art, gameplay all is good and nice)

lachlan-james 2024-04-25 04:39

Hey, this was COOLLLLLLLL (see what I did there?)

Very simple assets (both sfx/visual) but super readable and tight to play. Not sure if there was meant to be music after the menu loop, but it disappeared for me. Difficulty escalation felt fair and rewarding. I got a bit excited about my bow and lost all my arrows and bombs but that's probably on me. Loved the leap animation effect with the berserker(?) enemy type.

All in all, solid as.

Constructive criticism: Not sure about the summoning link, really (I get that there was a wizard and he may me have been summoning the enemies...???) Feels like maybe it could have been made for any jam.

I really like the consistency of this game. The colors and the sprites are simple in appearance but I can tell that you are quite good at making them all fit together. The tutorial text next to the starting room and the cutscene are also well done and make it very clear to the player what is expected of them. Great work!

gabrimer 2024-04-26 23:35

I loved the simplicity of this one, and it's nice how the enemy does the summoning, rather than the actual player. Good job!

denilseven 2024-04-27 12:23

I finally beat it mwahaha For a moment there I got into a state where I was just slaying down melee summons and sniping the ranged ones, it was so great! When the wizard finally came down from his position I was getting ready for a hard boss battle - and a very intense one cuz I only had 2 hearts left at that moment - but I wasn't let down by how it ended  that made me laugh

The archers are pretty though tho so I always tried shooting them the second I saw them rather than going melee, which makes a lot of sense - even historically as well. Like, a soldier could beat up an archer at close range, but how are they supposed to get even *close* to an archer if they can shoot a target down from so far away! Now I got what you commented on my game

Good stuff man, really fun to play :100:

Great job for a solo entry. Gameplay was solid, liked the different weapons and variation in enemy types. Graphics were nothing special, but the animations were suitably juicy. The sound effects that were present did their job, but there could have been more variation. Lack of music during gameplay was also a bit disappointing. Good work overall, keep it up!

pauldee427 2024-05-02 13:03

The sprites, animations and sfx while simple make a cohesive whole. The game is quite addicting to play. The furthest I've gotten was round 15. I've found the regular archers to pose the most challenge given how fast their projectiles are and seemingly the only practical way of fighting them is shooting at them yourself. This adds to the game an additional layer of resource management (saving arrows and bombs for tougher opponents). I liked how dynamic the game felt. Also the game provides a decent amount of enemy variety. Had fun playing.
