Really interesting puzzle idea!

ava-skoog 2023-10-05 12:04

Really good for less time than usual, I thought it was a great mechanic! Only needed some polish or extra feedback as it felt a bit clunky and uncertain queueing actions up. I never really found a use for "calm" because it would've deactivated some of the regular moveset (jump, dash, turn) so I just used turn as a way to stop instead… p: Fun way to win the game by doing something different.

@ava-skoog glad you liked the mechanic! The `calm` command was one of these things I spent a bit too much time on and that wasn't really needed with the levels and obstacles I managed to put into the game. Its basic idea was to give the player a bit more time on individual complicated parts, but the game became much more boring with it activated too so it should probably have been scrapped. There were so many things scrapped, like mutating which letters gets locked and unlocked throughout the game -- perhaps while playing, passing through a scrambling ray the player would have had to hastily organize their memory again before something bad happens.

I took me a while to figure out you can click on the abilities in memory but after that it was interesting!

igor-morgun 2023-10-06 16:03

Nice gameplay idea, i like it because i study to be programmer, i like how this game uses player brain to play, good job.

ranzor 2023-10-06 16:15

Nice idea. i suck at word games so it was really hard to get going :)

fatemperor 2023-10-06 16:16

A great mix of crossword and programming. Cool.

fraanns 2023-10-06 16:17

Really inovative gameplay. It seems a bit rushed but with a bit more polish, I think it would be pretty fun.

juicybrucey 2023-10-06 16:40

It took me a while to realise that you could have commands set vertically, with the keyboard input moving the cursor along row-by-row It didn't click for me for a while (that might say more about me than the game really though.) I thought it was an interesting idea though, a kind of goal-driven crossword-wordsearch hybrid; with some more time on this I think it could be something quite unique, nice job with this :)

local-minimum 2023-10-07 08:45

@juicybrucey the command entry really could have gotten some more love if I had any time and energy left. Perhaps if the user could toggle input direction row-wise <-> column-wise by repeated clicking on a selected cell it would have helped some. At least it wouldn't have been as annoying inputting vertical words. And perhaps also not filling out non-locked positions from start.

@fraanns it very much was a rushed entry

@igor-morgun yeah I really liked the idea of having the player be part of the mental functions of the character too.

I really missed something, I change the letters but I don't understand. I know it has a puzzle mechanic but I can't understand it. I didn't understand the connection with a robot. I don't think I understood anything, but as others understood, I think the problem is with me lol.

local-minimum 2023-10-08 08:25

@lincolnsalles admittedly it is a bit obscure, but if you enter the words that are shown on the ground either by rows or columns you activate buttons right below the letter field and you can press those to control the robot

geckoo1337 2023-10-08 10:18

Really interesting puzzle game with clever gameplay. I hoped that someone could create a game with corrupted memory - and you made it. I understood the main mechanic relatively quickly, but a better tutorial could be appreciated. With more time, I guess that you could polish the graphics. I have no sound nor music playing. It's a shame. Thank you for this entry and for your comment. I wish you the best ++

bad-fetus 2023-10-08 22:38

Cool take on the theme with the limited space dealing with the instruction space itself rather than the level. Felt a bit tedious to get to the tile I wanted to edit but I quite enjoyed this outside of that. Nice work!

neowedge 2023-10-09 08:27

I didn't understand anything hahahaha sorry! I typed "LEFT MOVE" and activated the forward move, then it fell into a hole and I didn't know what else to do: there are no more words on the ground. I tried "UP MOVE", "RIGHT MOVE", JUMP"... but It seems that only the "LEFT MOVE" one works, which is what kills it xD I'm sorry for my clumsiness, I see that other people understood it, but I'm not alone in this either hahahaha!

local-minimum 2023-10-09 17:12

@geckoo1337 @bad-fetus I was planning to include an antagonistic and ironic narrator that would help the player understand all the unexplained things. But time and energy ran out. For example the ability to click on letters in the inventory to skip to the one you want to change rather than typing until you get to where you want.

@neowedge If you enter both MOVE and LEFT (and/or RIGHT). You can fit them all at the same time. You get buttons that control the robot. The robot is EXCITED (when you start) so it will repeat the last received command, making it a little challenge to maneuver it around the trap to the flag.

Interesting! Took me a second to figure out, but pretty fun and definitely quite innovative. I couldn't help but feel like this concept had more potential than this game executed on, but I imagine that since you were time-limited, you felt the same way. Great work!

Took me a second to get the idea, nice interpretation of the theme. There some graphic bug when you are moving, i don't remember the exact word for that (there's lines showing up). Not a huge fan of the concept, but i have to admit it's smart and a good idea

pndaa 2023-10-12 21:09

It doesn't looks good but the game is. At first it tooks me a while to understand what to do. I'm happy that I didn't gave up. Good job to make that game on the time you had.

tal28 2023-10-14 11:31

Nice game, was hard to understand.

ellaris 2023-10-14 12:19

- Interesting game, I like the unique inputs - I think it would be good overall to explain the rules to the player, not all people like puzzle games, even less like figuring out what the puzzle is before trying to figure out how to solve it. - I got to the dash, I didn't find a way to beat it, I hope it's not based on reflex to change the board mid move

kristinamay 2023-10-16 18:53

I was confused for a while but once I figured out I was excited! Very inventive puzzle mechanic, I'd play a more detailed game like this. I didn't love the fact that I had to time my entries - I'd prefer my puzzle games to be less stressful/reaction-based - but spelling out commands that you then "get" to use is so cool. Great work in a limited amount of time!

saralizzieb 2023-10-19 03:56

Solid take on the theme, like the puzzle aspects and I'm a fan of words games so I had a good time!
