Very unique and innovative. Sadly I lack the skills to get high scores. It was quite difficult to choose the right colors and arrange them in the best way. Regardless, this game is in the spirit of the theme.
I suppose you could improve this game by including less complicated paintings. The art you chose is beautiful but the difficulty is too high given the constraints. Still, overall this is a very creative entry. Nice work.
I've been your fan since Word Salad, I admire your way of coming up with absolutely unique & impressive ideas and game mechanics. It's needless to say that I loved everything in Bug's Museum of Fine Art: the story, the graphics, happily painting miniature paintings while listening chill sound track...
Two things I must mention: I feel like colour palettes were often slightly off and didn't really let me capture some important details. Also, I'm not sure where the ratings come from, they felt slightly randomized. I feel like the game could've done just fine by just letting you to the next area after finishing all the paintings.
But the game is great even with these problems. Teaches you the basics of pixel art. I hope a lot of people will find this since it is definitely one of my favorite product in this jam

Well, apparently I am BAD at trying to do pixel art. ;) This really seems like it could be a good start to an interactive/gamified guide on creating pixel art. I think it's a good story hook, great use of theme, engaging art - just wish it was a bit more forgiving for someone with my limited artistic skills.
Thank you for this lovely and cute game! The idea is great and i think you executed it quite well. I did not have any technical problems and managed to paint some good and some mediocre paintings (;
The relaxing athmosphere is well supported by the music. I guess one tiny improvement would be to reduce the break in the music when navigating through the pages, maybe by automatically starting the current track where you left of.
I didn't achive good scores for paitings where the color palette wasn't matching my needs. Nonetheless i like that you provide a fixed palette and don't allow free color choice. With some more testing and user feedback you will probably find more balanced palettes, e.g. i would love a second reddish color for improving my drawing of _Margaret of Austria_.
The gameplay was interesting and innovative, but I think it would get repetitive. However, what I did play was fun. Unlocking new areas is a good idea to freshen up gameplay. To be fair, time is limited in this competition so adding features to make it less repetitive would be difficult. Also, The take on the theme was unique; there isn't enough area for getting the full detail of the painting.
Much of the graphics in the game was not yours. However, the ones that you did where of good quality and fit in with the real paintings / user generated content. The audio was also good, but was too short; after enough gameplay I think it would get annoying.
The painting names and critics feedback shown after painting submission were funny and a nice touch to the game.
As you said, its a bit rudimentary, but it is a nice idea! I cannot achieve some really high score, because i lack of art skills, but my mona lisa is really charming! GJ
Wow this was really engrossing, to the point that I feel a little bit proud of the pixel art I made! I did feel like the score was a bit arbitrary--would have been nice to see where I could have done better. Liked the music and the bug theme a lot!

@rinta That's so strange, I'm sorry it's doing that! Your art is indeed beautiful, and there's no way you should be getting 0 points. What browser are you playing in? My only guess is that local storage isn't working properly for you, so it's not storing your score, but your paintings are still there, so... :shrug: thanks for playing anyway!
Wow, I never imagined I would be making a pixel art reproduction of the Mona Lisa -- came out terrible, yet still somehow looked like the Mona Lisa. Always fun the different games made in these jams :)
@kristinamay I played in Firefox, so that's likely the issue. I know you said it only works in Chrome, so I brought this upon myself ;)
Anyway, it's a lovely idea, and well executed theme.
