Known bugs: - Background music doesn't loop.

horda 2023-01-08 22:13

Very nice game, I'd like to play longer in one playthrough, I finished it without going very far into the mine. I love "pick your bonus" random mechanics everyDay, lots of nice building. I'm impressed by your realisation in 48 hours! Good job !

ben-burnes 2023-01-08 23:58

I really like this! I think the first map I got was bad RNG because I had no idea what was going on and no crystals or gold was near me. But the next map I started was rich and I won in like 7 days. It was a lot of fun to manage the resources and grow a base. Love the visuals as well.

googlypoo 2023-01-10 00:47

Thank you for playing!

@horda If I had some extra time I might've added alternate difficulty levels with more or less days or crystals. The longer the game goes, the more upgrades I'd have to design, so I limited the scope for LD

@ben-burnes Haha, yes, the map is purely RNG! If I were to continue I'd homogenize the distributions even more, and perhaps add higher yield resources further into the darkness, or making resources near your spawn point expire, to force expansion. There are structures in the game to compensate for a lack of natural gold veins and crystals, but they are further up the tech tree so you'd definitely be disadvantaged versus someone who gets them right by the first lantern.

Really nice game! The lighting was a bit odd as sometimes the actual lighting would illuminate a tile but it would still be too dark to place. Other then that it would be nice if there was some other way of moving the camera other then hitting the edge of the screen. As the maps not too large it works fine but the far edges are nice to scroll too. Regardless nice game I enjoyed it!

brinegamers-productions 2023-01-10 04:51

This is a fun game! I can't wait to see what you do with it in the future!

salvation 2023-01-10 16:11

Very good game good job. graphics are eye pleasing and very high quality. Love how the harvest theme was implemented. The gameplay was easy to understand and the game had no bugs. Story is quite simple but still works. The game ended quite fast but in this type of competition it's a good thing.

owca 2023-01-10 17:53

Great idea and execution. There is a lot of decisions to be made which is good. I like the graphics. And I love the effect you used for highlighting current hex (very creative way of using particle system). Great job - especially for a compo game.

found-bow-tonight 2023-01-11 04:11

It seems that we get the similar idea.Minerals!Cheers!

stevencolling 2023-01-11 13:02

Very polished and streamlined experience, had fun playing through and managing the resources and trying to beat the clock of impending doom! :D

pazzi 2023-01-12 07:15

This is a really polished compo entry! I loved the ambiance and aesthetics ('For The King' enjoyer) despite a lack of audio- honestly, I'm sure with time you would have nailed that too! Seriously amazing work!

ghostbomb 2023-01-12 13:07

Very fun and strategic game. And well polished too!

Oh, you also did clockwork from last compo! Nice to see you again!

googlypoo 2023-01-13 01:03

@brinegamers-productions @salvation @owca @found-bow-tonight @stevencolling Thank you for the kind words and for playing

@pazzi I hadn't heard of For The King before but I definitely see the likeness. I'm not sure what you mean about the audio though, there should be sound

@ghostbomb Yep, that was me too! I was able to apply some of the lessons I learned from building Clockwork to make this more quickly. Glad you're back

pazzi 2023-01-13 01:22

@googlypoo Aha! I can hear it! I must've put my volume down low at the time of review! (probably because my folks were sleeping at that time) Wow. I still can't believe this was compo O_O

googlypoo 2023-01-13 01:33

@pazzi Oh, that's a relief. I realize what the issue might be, the background music isn't looping like it should. The rest of the audio is all based on selection and placement, so it's easy to miss.

rob6566 2023-01-13 10:35

Love the game! The lighting looked really nice (I need to play with that in Unity), and the audio was great (as you noted, the music doesn't loop). The boons gave interesting choices, and it all seemed very polished and well balanced. Nice work!

forik 2023-01-13 19:03

Turn based stratagy game! Love it!

Dont have enough feedback from my actions but i think its okey for game jam.

Thanks for game =)

kr0k 2023-01-13 19:54

Crazy depth for a jam game! Also it already shows a really fun concept. Great work!

googlypoo 2023-01-13 19:55

@forik Thank you for playing! I understand & agree. I had planned for more action feedback on structures (particularly how they impact your resources stockpiles on placement and per turn) but I ran out of time.

@kr0k @rob6566 Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it 😊

smeljey 2023-01-13 21:25

Very nice compo entry! Gameplay is very exciting and the game looks brilliant. Yet, there are some things I'd like to be improved: - As people said before, if the map is generated with no resources nearby, you don't really know what to do, if you are playing for the first time (happened to me) - For some reasons I couldn't place buildings in lower hexes, but there were both crystals and gold.

orhu 2023-01-13 22:10

Well done! This is definitely a strong entry. I enjoyed how much variety there was in terms of buildings you could construct and the game economy feels very well-balanced. The visuals as well are quite nice, I think their simplicity complements the atmosphere of the game. Sound wise, I noticed the background music didn't loop, but I didn't mind just having that cavern ambiance. I think it would be nice to start the game centered on the map and with the starting lantern at the center of the screen, so you have a better idea where you're starting and have available all directions to build out in. I think it would also be nice to draw more attention to the resource counters at the top when there is too much demand for a certain resource, so you can plan accordingly. Maybe also showing a resources gained per day counter underneath them would be helpful so you can see if you'll meet your quota for a given resource. Nice job overall though! I enjoyed playing!

googlypoo 2023-01-14 06:33

Thanks to everyone who played! I've made it to 20 ratings

@smeljey You can't place buildings near the edge of the map, which is the problem you were running into. I need to make it so resources can't spawn there. I also like @orhu 's suggestion of spawning the player in the middle.

@orhu I had almost finished the resources/day feature when I ran out of time. Totally agree. Great points.

itzemii 2023-01-14 22:23

Wow! Very polished and complex for a game jam! Surprisingly well balanced. I think it is worth adding things (larger, more difficult, ...) in a post jam version.

zimny11 2023-01-15 18:30

Really well done game, especially for Compo! I love mining game, and dwarfs, and turn based strategies, and that has all of the above. Great entry! I do not think I have anything to add :)

bentglasstube 2023-01-24 18:36

I really liked the visuals and the sounds in this game, very well done. The strategy part was engaging, although the 10 crystals per day bonus you could choose near the end kind of made it too easy to get to the 100 you need. I found a natural crystals but I couldn't figure out how to mine it, so I wound up just building tons of crystal farms near the end. Maybe I missed reading something, though. The other difficulty I had was in knowing the boundary of the map, but that was a small issue. Very nice job overall.

googlypoo 2023-01-24 22:11

@itzemii Totally agree -- I kept it jam-sized for the sake of LD but I can think of many ways I could expand the gameplay :)

@zimny11 Thanks for playing, happy you enjoyed it!

@bentglasstube You're totally right on the bonuses, I initially had more upgrades planned but they didn't make it in time, so you can take that bonus earlier than I wanted and trivialize the game. You can mine crystals by building mines next to them, though if the crystal is outside of the map boundary it won't let you. On an iteration I'd spawn the player further in and prevent resources from spawning in unbuildable areas.

mikyokyuji 2023-01-25 09:57

How amazing you created this in 48 hours. Both visual and mechanics is well-made. Congratulations!

googlypoo 2023-01-29 21:24

Wow, 32nd! Thanks to everyone who rated. Very happy with my result  I never thought I'd place this high.
