This game seems to activate SteamVR on it's own.
It was way more of a jump scare than I had hoped for; playing with no sound, turning around, to already be up close and personal with a zombie :)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Dire Darkness

I survived for 3:41! Having some zombie noises (especially panned appropriately) would have been nice. I'd like to hear someone chewing on me from behind. It'd be cool if there were different classes of zombies, some faster, some slower. Not a bad accomplishment for 48 hours! Please check out my game!
I survived for 8:31 seconds, but now I need to take a break from gaming because I now have carpal tunnel. I liked your usage of light and the camera position was on point for having to turn to see what is behind you!
Nice entry!
This game really needs more challenge Zombies heads are too big, and each zombie has same size, so you can just rotate your mouse on one horizontal axis to shoot them in the head and don't miss And you need more sounds, like footsteps of zombies, to make them a bit more scary and to know that they are coming, because every time i shoot, one or two guys behind me start to eat me, and i know about that only because of i rotate and look at them So one more that this game needs, that is some effects on screen when zombies starting to hit you! Btw for first game on unreal it's cool and much more valuable, you finished it, congratz!
The lighting and camera effects really helped with the feel of this game. I felt the inevitable doom closing in every time I turned around.
Great job finishing the game! A few comments: 1. It felt a bit too easy to stay alive, i was surrounded by zombies and my health bar was barely going down 2. No reloading made the shooting less stressful than typical horde games 3. Would be cool to add some music or different characters moving at different speeds 4. a pretty simple shooter but still fun to get some headshots! Could be fun to track kills somewhere on the screen as well.
It's decent for what it is. What do you think about UE now that you have the experience? o:
My biggest issue with this game is that I didn't hear when the zombies were eating my back. This feedback would help to survive longer. The cenetered healthbar was also confusing since I just check the left side of it to see how much healt I'm missing only to realize later that I have much less than I thougth.
I liked what you did with the lighting. Shooting/headshot mechanics worked well, and had good special effects. Ambitious to go 3D and using a new engine for LD. Props for that.
I don't know that I have anything to add that others haven't said, but my general feeling: - I was a zombie buffet, but my health bar barely moved. Increasing the difficulty would enhance the thematic element. I didn't feel the pressure because the zombies individually weren't much of a threat. - Adding some more mechanics (score? new zombie type?) -- something to enhance interest past the minute mark. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue if I had felt more afraid of the zombies.
+ The mood is really nice. Dark atmosphere in the middle of no where. + Gun shot sound is surprisingly easy for the ear to listen to. I could listen to that for a while.
- The zombies make no sound. There should be some sound/visual indicator that zombies are behind you. - Zombies should hit harder. I could just stay there not shooting and survive for a while. - Gameplay get's a bit bland after a while; you just move your mouse horizontally and spam left click. Maybe you could add some new types of zombies, new guns, etc.
My verdict: This game has potential!
I like the lighting effect. You did a good gob with the spawning and the time of movement I did not like the sound. There was VERY little sound, and what WAS there was annoying my wife (who was in the same room). So, I guess add some music, or maybe at least give the zombies a walking sound that increases as the get closer. Also, The art is... Not there. this is just a blocked out game atm. I guessing this is your first game/project. you did a lot of good things, but you have just as much to improve on
Not sure what was going on but I couldn't shoot sometimes for odd amounts of time. I enjoyed turning around and seeing the zombie right there. Would definitely like to have more audio, especially cues from the zombies.
I'm really impressed that this games lags on my pc. Thematically, this game is pretty close to jam, i guess. But that's not even a prototype...
Terrible graphics and gameplay, sorry. Just not fun.
Well.... that really did not run well on my laptop ... sorry  I suspose that's to be expected but gave it a shot  Congrats on finishing a project on a new engine :thumbsup_tone1:
Wow. I had a blast playing this! First off kudos on doing a compo game in a new engine. I like how effective everything is even though it's so simple. The lighting is great. I liked the blood splatters on the zombies. I agree with other commenters that I felt like some sounds for the zombies were missing, but the audio that was there I really liked. The gunshot sounded good even after I had fired a ton of shots by the time I died. So much clicking! So many dead zombies! That was fun.
