I'm stuck on the first sausage. I shoot and nothing happens. But art is wonderful

clonze 2021-10-05 00:25

@sunderbird shoot it and then run down the pit!

2021-10-05 00:54

Watched on stream. Love the attention to detail. Spawning from inside a hotdog was truly horrifying. Got a bug where on death I spawned without my jetpack. Seemed to happen if you get killed while flying. Nice work.

Very nice pixel art!

zettabit 2021-10-05 04:27

What a morbid, but interesting main mechanic. The art is super cute, and I also really liked that the dumpsters acted as checkpoints. Seeing the characters climb out of one was a treat.

Really enjoyed this fever dream of a game haha. Art was wonderful and charming as always and had a good time playing through the game :D Great work!

I LOEV 10/10

Lots of creativity on display!

If I had to criticize anything, the respawn, shoot, and gun animations were very slow. The time for these actions felt frustrating.

The electro hot dogs were also pretty frustrating, but sound ques could help with that. I didn’t realise they turned off at first.

dae-udain 2021-10-05 22:46

I think the mechanic is interesting, but I seem to have bugged out on the second hot dog. I shot two darts into him, died, and then pressed shoot while I was respawning. After that, I did not respawn, and the screen just stayed on the remaining hot dog.

Otherwise, I think the art and spritework were rather well done. Music effects were a nice touch too.

It's so cuuute! the characters are very charismatics and the story is lovely. See the little racoon die is so sad!

bauke-regnerus 2021-10-06 08:54

Love the pixel art and animations. The characters are cute but the tone of the game is rather morbid. The intro was nice too. I would include the controls in the game; maybe like painted on the wall of the starting area. Rip racoon.

cloudlunar 2021-10-06 09:39

Great art. But I’m stuck on the first sausage, too. "Shoot it and then run down the pit!" and I die. Maybe I didn't understand the rules clearly

clonze 2021-10-06 19:04

@cloudlunar there's an audio que for how long you have to die. eventually the dart wears off. You have to be quick! In hindsight, adding the time limit didn't really add anything when the game is this simple, it just added confusion.

Fun game with great humor. Nice job on the art gray!!

arthurgps2 2021-10-06 22:42

Okay the art here is frickin great. I love the animations and designs and I honestly feel like this game could become something bigger. Only issues I got here are the animations that often feel slow and the audio is not so great, but despite that it's a pretty cool game!

jitspoe 2021-10-07 01:01

Really nice entry! Great art! Fun style. Can't believe you had full (well, almost 😀) cinematics.

jitspoe 2021-10-07 19:49

Also, here's the VOD on the off chance you want to watch my playthrough again: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1169455753?t=1h33m27s

I absolutely adore and love the art style and humour this game has. The nonchalant Happy Tree Friends style gameplay is an experience I would love to see more and see a full game made out of.

There's a few polish issues here and there-- the main mechanic didn't click with me at all until reading these comments. As some others have said, the animations are excellent... but they can be a bit long on repeat.

Once I understood how to play the game, I cleared through the whole thing without a problem. Its puzzles were creative, its artstyle and tone are wonderful, and the characters have so much expression to them. I have mixed feelings of terror and amusement over the hot-dog possession and the use of dumpsters as a respawn point for a raccoon is adorable.

Overall, a strong entry. I'm interested to see what you might have in store for this game postjam as its core concept is quite unique and fun to play around with.

Tricky to understand at first, but I got the hang of it. I really like the character art.

guitarbro 2021-10-13 03:11

What a surprisingly disturbing premise for such a lighthearted game lol. Echoing the above comments, the web version seems totally busted (first enemy never respawns you correctly) and I had a bug in the windows download where I got softlocked due to not respawning at either a glizzy or a dumpster. Perhaps related to shooting an enemy offscreen?

That said...

Really nice artwork, the intro animation is a nice touch and the sounds, while somewhat minimal, fit fairly well. Unfortunately I ended up not finishing due to the aforementioned softlock as it got me several times and combined with the unskippable intro I had to call it quits. However, I like where the game was going, so well done on that.

Cute and amazing art. Together with the music it resulted in quite an immersive atmosphere. The methodical gameplay was interesting, but I'm unsure how long I could have stood it before getting frustrated (the death-animation took quite long). Getting past the first glizzy was confusing as well. The little details of the animations were what made it for me.

mistercheezymoon 2021-10-13 19:48

The art on display here, as well as the character designs, and the premise all give this game a lot of charm. It's probably what makes it all the more jarring the first time you spawn from the back of a mutant hot dog.

On that topic, I think the big problem with figuring out the dart gun is that it's not intuitive. The music changes pace and gets distorted, but I assumed that was as a result of making the dogger high and harmless. So the music was giving you a cue as to your period of safety for running past him. Y'know, it seems to be a tranquilisier gun, and not a teleportation device.

Once I figured out that if you die you respawn from their bodies instead of the trash (nice work making the character a raccoon for this, lol.) the rest of the game is pretty well designed. The first time you see an electric hotdog comes to mind so that players understand that these are periodic hazards, then following up with sequences where you need to avoid them. Placing the jetpack right next to a place you need to use it.

Thankfully, I didn't manage to trigger any glitches. So aside from figuring out the dart gun, there's a good game here.

It's not often I find one of these games where you're like "wait this is a jam game"! The graphics are amazing, I can't believe full opening and closing cutscenes, plus such detailed game animations, were made in only 3 days! I have only two complaints:

1. A list of controls, at least on the Ludum Dare page, would be nice since it took me forever to figure out the controls. WASD, Space, F, and X seems like a weird control scheme, unless that's just my QWERTY keyboard. 2. Why is this not one of the top games on Itch right now?

mr-field 2021-10-18 02:02

as everyone else has said, the graphics are more than wonderful, especially for the jam peroid.

i liked the game mechanics here, i even liked how they were limited, only allowing you to shoot while on the ground, making you stationary while doing so, and similar with the jetpack, i think it feels quite arcadey and fits the puzzle gameplay style well.

unfortunately i found the incredibly long time that almost all interactions took quite grating and it quickly put me in the mood of 'get on with it'; luckily the game was very short and charming, but if the time-to-action issues were sorted out i think this could become something special

dgspitzer 2021-10-18 09:20

Super fun and super cute!! The art is sooo awesome!

coolestdoggie 2021-10-19 10:42

I'm in love with your graphics!
