Seems like the game is missing from itch.io?

masaru 2021-10-04 10:25

@appoxgames The game is broken beyond repair, I thought it might be just one or two bug and I can fix it the next day and call it "technically in the rules" but no, it's far more work than I'll allow myself before calling it cheating (and it only "somewhat work" in Unity, no build of it manages to run) so disregard this entry. Sorry about that.

masaru 2021-10-04 14:05

@appoxgames So, I ended up fixing the bugs just for myself and in the end, the "game" is "playable". Sadly it's not much, but it's a thing at least. Feel free to rank it or not, as the bug fixing was a lot of work after time, it doesn't really matter, I'm happy to have managed to do something at the very least.

appoxgames 2021-10-04 14:19

I still get that 404 game not found on itch.io, perhaps the link is broken?

masaru 2021-10-04 14:24

@appoxgames I just discovered you have to make the page "public". -_-. Well, this is very much in line with this weekend ! ^^

appoxgames 2021-10-04 14:31

Now it worked :) Played it and it feels impossible to beat? All my cards get instagibbed by the first red card :) I like these type of games where you are required to think to beat, but i'm quite sleep deprived so my brain is not working that well. Either way, well done!

doc-kaos 2021-10-04 14:37

Thanks for submitting! I'd love to have sounds and see graphics on the cards, but reading the description I'm glad you got it released! Keep going! Cheers

masaru 2021-10-04 17:40

@appoxgames Yeah, I think the game is unbeatable. If I redid it, I'll make fights different, I don't think there are any way to do much except loosing very quickly ^^.

@doc-kaos Thanks you very much =)

korolles 2021-10-04 19:00

Not a bad idea, but poor implementation. I would like to see a stable game.

circle 2021-10-04 19:30

I really do like the concept. Little puzzle games like this are always interesting. I really sympathize with your technical difficulties. When you're in a rush, little problems start to feel like disasters. Overall interesting concept.

ugly-robot 2021-10-04 21:29

Yeah I really love the concept of the game - if you ever are able to dedicate more to this game in the future, I'd love to try it again. I'm sure you learned a ton trying this, even though it may not always feel like it. Thanks for submitting!

masaru 2021-10-04 22:06

@korolles @circle @ugly-robot Thank you all three. Yeah, the end result is... underwhelming. I wish I had thought about this and gone with this from the get go, but at least next time I'll know : code first, 3D second, and fix the computer before the LD ^^

solah 2021-10-06 06:13

Hey! I really like how the game looks actually. I think it has a lot of potential with many different cards, good music and some juicy visual effects, I would love to see a post jam of your game!

masaru 2021-10-06 10:23

@solah Thank you very much =)

lazzor 2021-10-06 19:52

First of all, props for even attempting to make a game in 6 hours! Also, your game is definitely winnable, with the win condition being that there are no enemies left! :P

ld49_screen.png

My strategy is a bit cheesy, but putting two green tiles in two corners (e.g. the bottom ones) and then putting a blue tile in between, you can keep the blue tile alive long enough that the red middle tile dies. Just put either a green corner on one of the greens and then attacking the blue one or the other way around. Blue tile on blue attacking a green one.

So good job on making a nice little game and giving us the challenge to figure it out! :D

Edit: I accidently put a green tile over the blue middle one in the last turn, that's why the bottom middle tile is also green

cauldron 2021-10-07 16:15

The idea has indeed a lot potential. I would be interested in a fleshed-out version without bugs. It would be nice to have a way of distinguishing the health from the attack stat.

masaru 2021-10-07 21:14

@lazzor : I thought in theory that this could be doable, but I tried it the wrong way around and couldn't make it work. Congratulation on actually beating the game, indeed ending up with no more enemies was supposed to be the win con, and thank you very much =)

@cauldron : I originally wanted to do few icons but in 6h (10h if we count the post-jam debugging) that just wasn't possible for me, but yeah, that'll be on the "todo list" if the game gets a true post-jam version. Thank you very much !

derek-volker 2021-10-07 22:04

While i think the idea has a lot of potential, the execution are a bit flawed.

Anyway, i think that the experience is knowledge. Congrats on commiting to the challenge and developing until the end!

hcs-hades 2021-10-09 00:44

Haha many attempts but no success, interesting idea!

crefossus 2021-10-09 01:13

Interesting gameplay that kept me around for a while even without any mood/audio or reward juiciness to reinforce anything positive. It sort of reminds me of the ffix card game.

I kept trying this for a while even reading the strats posted here (strong defender, healers on bottom left and right) but sometimes the game freezes. I think I had it once. I liked experimenting with stacking cards.

I think it's fine if you do any bugfixes to make the gameplay you already have stable. That's allowed in the rules. Typically they recommend putting a change/bugfix log so it's transparent.

masaru 2021-10-09 13:50

@derek-volker and @hcs-hades : Thank you !

@crefossus : Thank you very much ! There's one way the game can freeze, but I couldn't reproduce it (and to be honest, after the hellish weekend, I wasn't super motivated on playing it a lot to try to find what's wrong). There were a ton of bugs fixed on Monday, I didn't keep a list because of how many they were, basically nothing worked, not even the build itself for some unknown reason (Unity made my computer crash, I got corrupt file, everything went wrong). I know I fixed the enemy turns (which didn't work at all at first), the freezing when clicking on an empty space and a nearly-game breaking visual glitch when stacking cards, but there might have been more bugs that I can't remember...

remco 2021-10-10 12:17

Well played with the name. I have enough trouble doing things in 48h, 6 must be a nightmare :-)

I generally like the switching sides mechanic (especially that a tile can be made to switch back as well) and ... I have not much more to say than that, unless we talk negatives. I won't bother with mentioning most of those, given the context.

One thing that I did notice was that I could consistently get a (soft?)lock if one of the tiles flipped back to me. It wouldn't let me pick a side to attack with, but it also wouldn't let me pick up a new tile (I played the web version on Firefox under Manjaro Linux).

masaru 2021-10-10 12:26

@remco : I'll investigate that later, thank you for your feedback !

zimny11 2021-10-14 10:53

The game mechanics with switching sides and healing your own troops are really interesting. The graphic is simple but easy to understand. Unfortunately every time I put a few squares on the board, the game gets stuck. The opponent does not move, and I can neither add another square to the board nor attack. Besides that, cool game concept.

masaru 2021-10-14 11:22

@zimny11 There were a bit too many bugs for me to solve sadly... thanks anyway !

crefossus 2021-10-22 14:50

@masaru I just saw your stats on the homepage and remembered I played your game live. I really did enjoy it! I don't think I played many other games that long. You can see the highlight of just your game here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1183771094 (Somehow I might have forgot to actually rate it? Maybe I rated it later. But don't worry no stars doesn't do anything to your rating.)

masaru 2021-10-22 23:07

@crefossus Oh, wow, thank you very much ^^. Watching you play it, I notice even more bugs that I had missed ><. Anyway, as a FF fan, the fact that you said it reminded you of the FF9 card makes my day so much brighter. Really thank you =) (and watching you play it, I can't understand stacking either, clearly something is broken somewhere ^^)

To answer something you said during your live : so, the way RNG is supposed to work (if my memory's right) is that attacker and defender have default stats (I think it's 1/10 and 10/1 or something like that), then they get a random multiplier from 1 to 5, that way a defender always gets strong HP and an attacker strong attack. I think that's why you kept on seeing the same card, the RNG must have kept on picking 2 and 4, or maybe I coded it wrong and it can only pick 2, 3 and 4, I don't know, anyway, I didn't have time to think about this kind of things I just wanted a bit of diversity ^^.
