It is tough! Try to make it a bit easier.

guine 2021-10-02 15:57

Good job!

dekajoo 2021-10-02 16:16

I've got the same love/hate feeling than "Getting over it" great job :D

2021-10-03 07:47

This is the secret link between sexy hiking and getting over it. Fun but frustrating!

dobryn 2021-10-03 22:47

Frustating but enjoyable. And given that this was made in 6 hours, incredible job!

bwalter 2021-10-04 00:35

@guine @dekajoo @jekuma @dobryn

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Don't forget to leave a rating, now that they are up! :smile:

bwalter 2021-10-04 00:36

@samthecoder123

Thanks for your input! The point of the game, however is that it is difficult. An exercise in perseverance, if you will! I made a couple things slightly more forgiving after your comment though. Thanks again!

reccy 2021-10-04 00:57

Very cute and difficult! Sadly I'm not as resolute as St Eugene, but it was a fun game! Especially good for 6 hours :smile:

bwalter 2021-10-04 01:58

@reccy thanks! :smile:

crotonyl-alcohol 2021-10-04 12:24

LOL. Really funny to control an unstable goat.

bklolo 2021-10-04 15:26

Thoroughly enjoyed :) Great angles and I can't tell you how many times the rocks saved me!

bwalter 2021-10-04 19:24

@bklolo @crotonyl-alcohol

Thank you! :smiley: glad you enjoyed it!

seaslugstudios 2021-10-04 21:19

i instantly clicked on this game when i saw a cute goat and i dont regret it..this was such a cute but infuriating game. i kept screaming at my scream because i couldnt get over the first mountain side at first and when i finally did i went too far and dropped into the water pit below...and i loved every second of failing XD...this was so much fun to play and i will be playing it more and more until i get to the end damn it!

bwalter 2021-10-04 21:52

@seaslugstudios

Haha Thank you so much! I hope you have many more memorable moments on your way to the top!

shess 2021-10-05 01:45

It's ridiculously fun - exactly what I needed to unwind after this jam. The goat _rocks_, and oh god. Mood. A perfect game to celebrate the end of the insane crunch!

varundevs 2021-10-05 02:06

GG!

bwalter 2021-10-05 02:28

@shess

thank you so much! I'm glad it helps you unwind! We all could use that after a good LD haha!

tom-stephenson 2021-10-05 21:13

Tough, addictive and funny! I really enjoyed playing and had a good laugh; I could honestly play all night!! Congrats on a great entry, it's very fun :)

bwalter 2021-10-05 21:19

@varundevs @tom-stephenson

Thank you!!

davision 2021-10-05 22:14

Those are excellent goat sounds. I'm however not an goat expert but from at I know that is exactly what a goat sounds like. The game is really fun its just that I'm way to impatiant and keep doing high risk far jumps. I guess letting the player jump already when its touching the ground would change too much of how it plays

bwalter 2021-10-05 22:33

@davision

Thanks for your input! Perhaps I should have added a panning function, so you could look ahead, but I wanted the player to be cautious and deliberate. I'll think of some fixes for possible future updates!

2021-10-06 02:08

so hard... I mean.. I got this in "0HR 17MIN 6SEC and 24/60"?? It's obvious that I didn't (did) cheat.

I liked the physics, oof I don't even know how to use the physics system in game maker yet, good job!

one thing that got me curious is that when the goat rotates, the sprite doesn't look distorted, but when I rotate something here it looks very h i d e o u s UGH I think I'm going to vom-

bwalter 2021-10-06 12:25

@dinowattz

Thanks! I'm curious: how did you cheat?

The goat looks good when rotating probably due to the amount it's zoomed in and some preferences in the engine itself. Vsync or alternate syncing method etc. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I had to alter the settings due to some visual errors with the soft body particles

coderaurus 2021-10-06 18:01

Good game! Top notch voice acting. I wish the camera would be slightly zoomed out or even zoom out when flying fast.

bwalter 2021-10-06 19:26

@coderaurus

Thank you!

That seems to be a common complaint. My reasoning was to try to make the player more cautious about their jumps, but I see why it can seem more unfair.

alright so: really cool game! works well and fits the theme just fine. the sounds and music (what little there are of it) are quite nice. i generally really enjoy playing these kinds of games (getting over it, etc.), but i have a few complaints about this one. i think the biggest source of frustration is with the view distance, i found myself several times running into a cactus or falling into water that i could never have predicted. there are many areas where you simply just have to make a blind jump, and hope there isnt some lethal hazard where you end up, and i don't think that's particularly fun. trial and error is ok, and even part of the genre i'd say, but only when it's "i see where i need to go, and i don't know what angle/power i need to get there yet" and not "i dont see where to go at all" and effectively throwing away your first attempt (and all the progress made thus far). thankfully, the game isn't very long. i think it's the perfect length for being the way it is other than that, i think the game functions well! i think the mechanic of tumbling down and having no control until you stop is really nice and fits well in the genre.

now onto what happened with that screenshot there's two things wrong here. 1. if you jump on the first frame of the game loading, you fly very fast and instantly win (it may require a particular angle, i didn't test enough) 2. i think your time counter is completely wrong, or otherwise i don't understand it at all. i beat the game several times using this technique, all of them were in the 1-5 minute range, despite performing the trick right at the start. this lead me to believe it was counting all the time for previous failed attempts as well (which i would disagree with if that's intended). however, the run in the screenshot happened after just as many attempts without even closing the game. i just tried it again, after about 6 deaths in 50 seconds, i got the trick to work and it showed me a time of 14 minutes. my actual legitimate run gave me a time of 26min 20sec, which i know is longer than it actually took. i think it was around 10-15 mins, assuming the timer starts after the last death

anyway, bugs aside, this is a nice game! i enjoyed it :)

ghostbit 2021-10-07 04:21

good job! made me chuckle. simple and fun, only complaint is wish is was easier at first, but hey you made it in under 6 hours, respect

erkberg 2021-10-07 20:44

Very nice game! It made it into part three of my little let's play series: https://youtu.be/kfaSQ8xL9tk

bwalter 2021-10-07 21:39

@torcado

Thanks for the breakdown of bugs! I thought I patched that timer issue, but I guess it slipped through! I'll do a patch tonight and see what I can do.

About the view: my initial intent was for players to play more cautiously. Limiting the view achieves that affect, though there are a couple portions that I agree, the view becomes more detrimental. I'm testing some ways to adjust this for post jam.

bwalter 2021-10-08 02:59

@ghostbit

Thanks! And you're right I had difficulty coming up with a good "teach the mechanics" section. The cacti were the best I could come up with for teaching precision and caution. Any suggestions how I might change it for a post jam version?

ghostbit 2021-10-08 16:09

@bwalter add like an arrow indicator or something similar, showing where I could launch myself too. Like maybe a bar meter showing the lower when u hold the mouse button

paulhocker 2021-10-10 22:43

this is such a perfect ludumdare game. i love the silly controls and the use of physics makes this a very fun game. Excellent work!

bwalter 2021-10-11 21:27

@paulhocker thank you!
