Cool idea and the music is nice. It was difficult to tell what was happening at first and the music seems to glitch out when I click buttons. Otherwise, I liked the shopping mechanic. It made it fun to try to keep upgrading. It would be nice to know how many cubes are left to fight each round and how many will be in the next round.

The game would not let me progress past the second encounter and the music kept glitching out. That being said, I like the music a lot for the environment

thebmxeur 2021-04-26 12:45

The game didn't work in 2 different browsers. The windows build seemed to soft lock after clicking on the first cube.

jk5000 2021-04-26 12:58

A bit weird, but also pretty fun. I love the music and the visuals is also good. Well done.

CUBES! CUBES EVERYWHERE! DOWN BELOW MORE CUBES! I looked inside myself and all I saw was CUBES!

This displeased me so I took the CUBE shaped paperweight off of my table and threw it ac cross the CUBE shaped room at my picture depicting a man thinking of nothing other than CUBES. I then smashed my Cuboid shaped PC-tower. No quarter for the CUBE kin! I then started burning my book collection, because they where made to fit into boxes, CUBE shaped boxes! Then I spotted a rhomboid shaped piece of scrap paper, I left it alone, because I respect rhomboids unlike the CUBES that I so loathe!

Currently I am acquiring high explosives to demolish my cube shaped house. To anyone who is on the fence about playing this game, please do. There are no lasting effects from clicking cubes for 2 hours straight and anyone who claims otherwise is bought by the cubinaties.

Unfortunately I wan't able to play it on mac OS in either firefox, chrome or safari. The standalone mac build link seems to be broken (404). Let me know if you fix something!

xatulu 2021-05-17 20:59

@seb-degraff well, this is Strange, seeing how I developed and built on Mac OS - what version of MacOS are you using? Maybe it’s not Backwards compatible? 🤔 (I compiled in BigSur)

xatulu 2021-05-17 21:01

@voidsay thank you for the long term trial! I have been using short term studies on cube-based effects on my girlfriend after she clicked on them for up to 30 minutes and could not measure any impacts.

Your data will be valuable to our society’s research papers!

seb-degraff 2021-05-17 21:08

@xatulu indeed I'm not on the latest version, I'm using Mojave (10.14.6). (But I wasn't able to download the Mac build anyway because of the broken link.) On the web it hangs when I click "enter the dungeon".

Here are the first warning and couple of errors found with the web developer tools: WebGL: INVALID_OPERATION: drawArrays: no valid shader program in use Dicegeon.js:354 **ERROR**: SceneShaderGLES3: Vertex Program Compilation Failed: onPrintError @ Dicegeon.js:354 Dicegeon.js:354 onPrintError @ Dicegeon.js:354 Dicegeon.js:354 At: drivers/gles3/shader_gles3.cpp:164:_display_error_with_code() - SceneShaderGLES3: Vertex Program Compilation Failed: onPrintError @ Dicegeon.js:354

treeboater 2021-05-17 21:37

I couldn't get it to load past the menu on OSX Catalina (10.15.5). Would like to play it if you get that working! Good luck with figuring that out, BigSur hasn't made it easy!

kaytrill 2021-05-17 21:44

Deeper and Deeper and Deeper and Deeper and Deeper into madness I went to play and finish it. Honestly this is not a bad prototype to quickly balance out stats and pacing. This game needs some slight rebalancing as for the early levels armor is cheap and king.

This game would be a great meme game where everything is cube. And the longer you play the more cube the cubes cube. Until cube cubing cube, cube, cube cube.

Cube cube cube Cube cubee cube. Cube cube cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube cube. CubeCube cube cube cube cube. Cube cube cube. Cube! CUUUUBEEEE!!!!!!

joaog 2021-05-17 21:44

I got here through your post and I think I should say that your game is not just a stupid clicker, as simple as your job may have been, it’s yours and you did it in a few days, in which you could have just stayed without producing anything, so be proud of it. Some streamers told me that in the past Jam, where I did the same and now I feel an obligation to pass this on to you too.

Anyway, good job! I really liked the soundtrack, it's a cool game and can be expanded in many ways. I hope you can achieve at least the minimum rating score, I am also trying to do that. Good luck!

kaytrill 2021-05-17 21:57

@joaog I couldn't agree with you more. The point of these game jams is to get started and have fun. For some it is starting to publish a game. For others starting to brainstorm. Some just love to experiment and design new ideas. But for the majority of people, including me, it is to start from scratch and learn the tools of the trade.

Be proud of what you have learned. Be proud of what you have achieved. Be proud of what you have made. For a "stupid" auto-clicker it has some great values. You made a game. And you made it, although perhaps unintentionally, incredibly memey. I am already trolling my gf who was in the background with just cubes. And saying nothing but cubes.

And I feel this could become a great flash/mobile game where the goal is to just cube.

bobafett89 2021-05-17 22:23

Nice little game, but it is becomes boring very fast because you become strong enough quite fast, so if you make it a little harder and add some more stats, it can become be very good game.

pijamar 2021-05-18 01:13

I love the concept and the aesthetic! Would love to see more upgrades and maybe a bit of story. Great entry, especially for a compo game, well done :trophy:

chris-delta 2021-05-18 05:31

The music is nice, fits the game, doesn't clash with the sound effects (of which the sound of clicking the cubes is a standout favorite). The music didn't actually play on the web version though and I had to go grab it out of the source code when I noticed in your description that it should have been there. (Benefit-of-the-doubt, I blame the engine, not rating on that)

There's not really much here for me to say, it's very very simple. The difficulty curve is a bit strange, it feels like the first few floors are right at the edge of possible, but after you can afford armor it gets unlosable. Other than what to purchase (I think the only strategy is health until you get some cash, armor until you can't lose, then attack to speed things up), the game basically plays itself as encouraged by clicking.

The individual graphical elements are all good, but would be improved overall if they all matched.

adafheyesh 2021-05-18 05:32

It's neat how even with the simplest of mechanics, it's still kind of fun to have numbers go up until you one-shot a cube.

xatulu 2021-05-18 05:57

@seb-degraff Found the error - file names are hard.. apparently I named the dmg file with a small d but the link I posted contained a capital D. It is fixed now! I will have to have a look at the Compiled Web-Version, thanks for letting me know!

Thanks everyone else for the kind words and the Ratings - I'll check out your games in the next hours and rate your games as well, it means a lot to me!

seb-degraff 2021-05-18 08:14

@xatulu Thanks, I was able to download, but couldn't open the game unfortunately.

I got '“Deeper into the Cubegeon.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.'

(Which in my opinion is kind of a rude error message!)

denzil-gomes 2021-05-18 12:58

I felt like the difficulty was just right on the first few floors but then I think I became over powered. I know the pain of trying to balance during jam time, I can only imagine what that's like on a Compo deadline.

That aside I like the presentation, I like the hit and appear animations of the cubes. Felt smooth the way they rotated into view. Would have been nice to see my progress toward the end floor and perhaps a camera that moves down toward the next floor as well as attack stats..but all that is extra, you've made a nice little experience here and I'm suprised how well the cubes work in this. Nice job

xatulu 2021-05-18 14:42

@seb-degraff Well shite. I just tried uploading a new DMG File and downloading and am still getting the error about being from an unknown identifier and not being able to be open. I'm really sorry that you ran into those compatibility issues, I will have to do another pass at this and make sure this doesn't happen again in the next LD! Thank you very much for your persistence though!

@denzil-gomes Thank you very much for playing - and yeah, the balance is really off at times. Especially since it also uses a lot of rng for Cube Attacks etc. And thanks for the ideas for Improvement, that definitely would make the Dungeon Crawling a bit better. I also wanted to add some Loot Drops and Equipment stuff, but that would have only worsened the Balance Problem..
