Fun game!
I'm a sucker for this milieu, great job! The art style really reminds me of Fallout 1 and 2.
I'm relly like this graphic, its look so cool.
You have done a nice job. Graphics is awesome. May be I am too old for this, but enemies, especially flying ones, are too fast for me
Damn this feel like a Mad Max game, from the environment to gameplay. Great work on the art and environment. I do feel the distance is a bit long and that the smaller enemies can be hard to hit. Control on the car feel very polished and overall a great entry. Terrific work!
Super nice art style and gameplay. Really polished visuals, UI and mechanics. I did run into an issue where it crashed to desktop a few times but there didn't seem to be any pattern to it, so I'm not sure why. A bit of music would have been nice. Overall, though, great work.
@kapa6uh Yeah the enemies could use some more balancing still for sure, thanks for playing! @saltfactory-studio Thaanks! Yeah, thats what we were going for :D True, balance always comes last minute in these ludum games, thanks for the feedback! @human-writes-code Thanks, yeah stability and preformance could use work still. Forgot about music this time :( Thanks for the feedback !
Driving the car and shooting feel really good- I'm also astounded at how many assets (visuals, audio, etc) are in this ? ? ? Wow! When playing, I felt more like driving for long periods of time than stopping at every ? mark. My game unfortunately crashed at about 1900-2000 m
The only thing that I can say is you did excellent job
Awesome game overall. I found the text elements a bit intrusive to the driving part, and it almost felt like I was playing two separate games at times. I also found it a bit strange how the vehicle would spin around in the air when damaged. I liked the atmosphere and graphics a lot though.
This is a fun little game. I really enjoyed tearing around in my car, especially when the enemies arrived. The art is good throughout, and in particular, the UI and cover art are excellent - great work!
@hydezeke Thaanks! Thats a good point, maybe we could have spaced out the events a bit more to have more focus on driving, but balancing and polish always suffers in Ludums. @maslostvarohem Thanks for the kind words! @manan True the text events could probably have been better integrated with the driving. The spinning comes from the dust devils that are moving around the map, could have been a bit more clear with them I guess @tigermouse Thanks for playing !
Nice graphics and car physics! Good job!
This was very good, the whole game was perfect. Some details on the map just need to be corrected, but overall it looks great. I believe that you can put even more content in the game in the future, if you continue the project. One of the ones I most enjoyed playing for sure. I invite you to play your game too :v:
Great game ! The camera could use a bit of polish, but otherwise it is really impressive for a jam game.
Good job
The scope of this jam game is a sight to behold. I love the random events and the overall feeling of a wasted world you've built up here, and the movement feels weighty enough that it all works. Overall, very few complaints. I have a few annoyances here and there, though:
For one, I felt that the map really lacked verticality. Now, I did have one time where the world didn't load, and when I realized you were rendering out the game as squares of terrain, that limitation entirely makes sense and ultimately doesn't matter for a jam game. That said, some taller dunes and cliffs would be a welcome addition.
I'm a huge fan of the visuals, they really get the wasteland feel down. That said, a little screen shake or flare on the bullets would go nicely; the gun just feels like it lacks any real impact. Speaking of impact, I found myself frustrated by the amount of static debris that puts your car into a dead stop, and wish some of that random debris on the ground could be rammed through and turned into dynamic rigidbodies for a health penalty.
Random events would be nice with a little more story. This note is here PURELY in terms of post-jam content. They're fine as quick events for the jam, but should you take this further I see a huge opportunity to place some more involved side content here.
As for bugs, I did have one instance where the map took a few seconds to load in and one instance where a random event spawned an enemy inside a rock. I also had one game freeze after colliding with a rock, but it's hard to say if that's the game or trying to run said game through Wine on Linux.
I think you're really onto something, and with more of a world to explore or other gameplay elements like mapping routes to destinations or a Fallout 1 style world map, I think this game could be something special. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
@meta-link The camera went through a stage where it caused one of our coders physical discomfort, we'll definitely consider tweaking or adding some customization options for it post-jam. Thanks for playing!
@anchorlight Hey, thanks for playing and for the kind words! There's two levels height to the map, but the map generation spawns the upper level quite rarely; if we end up working on this some more, verticality would definitely be worth exploring
Making static elements like the fences and some debris destroyable is something we ran out of time on; strong impacts do give you a health penalty, but of course it would be more fun and less frustrating if the objects also exploded in the process
We also get the occasional bugs and crashes, from what i understood it mostly has to do with the on-the-fly map generation and pathfinding, so it's most likely the game's fault and not a linux-centric one
I'd love to expand the events into full-fledged scenarios and storylines, since this was the first time we've done heavier writing in a jam game, and it was an absolute blast! i could easily see it expanded into a larger, fallout 1 style map with fixed locations, trade routes, economy, etc. Thanks for your support!
Games like this just feel good. Great job
Being totally honest here, I played this game with a massive egg on my face. The scope, polish, and quality of everything made me suspicious that this was not a jam game but some rando submission. Of course I was wrong lol. Sorry to make that assumption of your game :(
Being so great it literally fooled me that way though says a ton. You guys achieved so much and it must have taken a ton of coordination from such a large team, and that's super impressive.
I would say that it felt a bit difficult for a smol-brain as myself, but when I'm playing games that's to be expected lol.
If you're interested, I played it on stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1017517813 and we played it at about 1:48:50 ish
Great job guys!
@secretjuice hey, cheers, and thanks for the kind words, and for playing our game on stream! We had a blast watching, and you made some good points (definitely agree that getting shot from off-screen isn't fair enemy behavior). It's normal to die a few times while figuring out the mechanics, especially since the game is randomized so nobody knows what you're gonna encounter, so good job in reaching the midway point (the point where lots of reavers spawned); The game gets considerably easier when you figure out that the 1-2-3 keys can be used to activate the various powerups that you collect from encounters, but you managed fine without it!
@vixenmink Thanks for the kind words!
