Cool game it is relaxing and i really like the music, it maybe could use some sound effects when you eat a fish or different music when you die but overall pretty good.

excy 2021-04-27 22:54

There are no more fish in the sea! Addictive game, I eventually became bigger than the ocean and got the crown.

jeanbon 2021-04-27 23:02

The game took a very different direction once I had drunk the entire ocean. It's a relaxing game, I finished it twice. It could use a full-screen button, my mouse kept losing the focus of the game.

paul-maxime 2021-04-27 23:07

I ate some fish, took a random crown at the bottom of the ocean, then became the ocean. Perfect.

Amazing atmosphere, almost psychedelic thanks to the music and the waves.

I didn't understand the camera was zooming out at first, adding decorative plants, a scale or some other size reference would make it clearer!

@scout @excy @jeanbon @paul-maxime Thanks for playing! I'm really glad some of you found it relaxing, at one point during making it I thought about scrapping the theme and just having it as a relaxing, chillout aquarium thing so you can just spend some time swimming around as a nice peaceful fish.

@jeanbon I've reuploaded it with different WebGL settings so it should have the fullscreen button now, thanks for the heads up!

@paul-maxime I definitely wish I had spent more time trying to balance the scale of eveything and portraying the growth of the fish better. The only thing that gets smaller as the camera zooms out are the waves I think, and they're only at the surface, so yes, definitely some plants/rocks or something would be a great idea to help that.

I ate all the fish, got the crown and kept eating until the whole ocean was thinner than a pixel. This is a really nice relaxing game with some cute precious fishes.

kenneth-wheadon 2021-04-29 20:32

Overall had fun swimming around and eating fish! I was able to swim down, spawn big fish, swim back up (they get smaller) then swim down and eat them, not sure if this was supposed to happen :O

I got to the point where I had a crown and was swimming in a 1px ocean, did that for about 60 seconds, but nothing else happened - would have been nice to have a prompt at the end (unless I missed it / stopped playing too soon!)

quinn-patrick 2021-04-29 20:32

It's pretty wild getting so huge that the whole ocean is just a one-pixel line that eventually disappears. I wish that took a little longer to do. I think I got there in, like, 2 minutes. The music is great, and I love that the fish come in all different colors. It's be nice if there were more sound effects.

albertnez 2021-04-29 20:32

The games sets the mood from the beginning, and the dificulty is well balanced, while keeping mistery of going up. The light details on the water are SO nice and fit so well in the game. All together with the music games this a great experience. It's funny that fishes leave the spines behind. I only wish the game was a bit longer :).

+1 to eat all fishes until the ocean is a pixel :ok_hand:

Well done, this was a solid entry!

I'm the biggest fish of the sea!!! Nice game, the kind of game that don't have an original gameplay but I still enjoyed it. I like the mood, good effort on music. But I miss this feeling of power, like in Katamari Damacy, it's necessary to show you that you're getting bigger and bigger with environment, camera, etc. But it's a great game for a jam!

gimmers 2021-04-29 20:38

I love feeding frenzy style games like this. Its so satisfying to grow!

bamallama 2021-04-29 20:40

Would be cool to have some alternative control options. Playing with my trackpad was painful.

Otherwise awesome idea and fun game!

@flying-dog-fish @kenneth-wheadon @quinn-patrick @albertnez @duck-reaction @gimmers @bamallama Thank you all for playing and leaving feedback! I put a lot of effort into making sure you could travel left/right infinitely and everything still worked, but for some reason didn't do the same for going down. In retrospect this seems like a poor decision, especially when the theme is 'Deeper and Deeper', duh! This would definitely have added more longevity to the game. The idea of picking up the crown to 'win' the game was a very last minute addition, I probably should have added a screen to say 'you finished', I will edit the description to tell other people this.

@kenneth-wheadon The fish spawn just off camera and their size is determined by your depth, so if you go deeper you force larger fish to spawn, but then when you go back up they get despawned and smaller ones spawn because you're less deep. It is intended but it may need tweaking the size of the spawn/despawn area to get more consistent fish sizes. Like many things with this game that I thought would be simple, it seemed to be tricky to get the balance of everything right.

@duck-reaction It definitely needs a better sense of scale I agree, I will check out Katamari Damacy for some inspiratioin!

@bamallama Sorry about that, I did plan on adding keyboard controls but had to prioritise other things and didn't get round to it.

Like it a lot, really addictive gameplay. Art is also fun.

quetzakol 2021-05-03 18:32

I was looking for a simple game to try today as I was very tired and this was perfect! The game is really easy but very relaxing. The music is great and helps set this relaxing mood. The graphics are simple but clean and colourful, I liked them. My only "complaint" is that with the camera zooming out, I didn't really get that feeling of going deeper, it felt like I stayed close to the surface all the time. Otherwise, good job!

guiditooo 2021-05-03 18:54

Several points to keep in mind in this game: First of all, it is not something that has not been seen before. But at the same time it is a very simple and well implemented idea. Second, the music. It's relaxing. and accompanies the game without disturbing. Third, the idea of becoming king of the sea and getting a crown for doing it was a very fantastic idea. Regarding art, I found the fish beautiful; although it would have added more variety of species. Generally speaking, I really liked the little game. Nice job!

siberpunk01 2021-05-04 01:50

I thought the music added a relaxing aspect to the game.

psiv 2021-05-04 11:54

@edur @quetzakol @guiditooo @siberpunk01 Thanks for the feedback!

@quetzakol That is a very interesting point about the feeling of going deeper that I hadn't considered. To win the game you can just stay near the surface and grow and grow until you are big enough that the ocean floor comes to you in a way, there is nothing forcing you to actually dive deeper, and the bigger you get the less deep it feels. Certainly something for me to think about, thank you!

@guiditooo I did originally plan on having different species of fish, in particular a unique one for the player fish, but in the end it was faster and easier to just have randomised colours. Definitely something I would do with more time.

Nice simple game ! An enjoyable experience that could have been improved with some more sound efects. However its still a good game ! Nice work!
