This is a great game, I love it. Although, personally I think that the "overworld" is not that necessary. The graphics are nice and the idea is fantastic.

Man, that's a nice idea and a great execution!

I know it's hard make things like that in such a short time, however, if you want to improve to a post LD game, here's some of my sugestions:

-Create an "in game" tutorial;

-Be careful with the camera limits, sometimes we can see the blue Unity background before the generation of new tiles and through the "main world" walls;

-I think it's kinda obvious but, waaay more visual appeal (that's not really an issue, but something to think aboyt);

-Set more specific goals;

But dude, nice game you have there!

I don’t use windows so I cannot play it, but your screenshots looks good, so I give you a good rate.

That's a pretty cool set of systems in 48 hours. It's a solid base to continue making a full game.

I agree with ProbeProb about the overworld being unnecessary. It confused me because I didn't realize that the white circle was a portal, so I was just digging around the base area aimlessly hoping to find something. Maybe instead of an overworld, you could have a base with a finite amount of space, and then just have expansions available as an upgrade.

your game is really fun to play.

your sprites is a bit blurry i think you should change their filter mode to point as shown in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHlHn5yHPMI

I hope that helps

@probeprob thanks - yes the overworld was not really necessarily but I wanted to create a feeling of "Returning home". I'm not sure the limited design has really conveyed this feeling properly tho. Likely the missions would have to be longer for it to give off that feeling

@jonathanfdr thanks for the feedback, I'm compiling a list of things I can expand upon for the post LD version so your feedback is appreciated.

@dadiaogames this is not really in the spirit of the rating system and I would suggest you simply move on without rating instead of giving a rating without playing.

@ale thanks - it was pretty ambitious and ended up taking too long giving little time for polish. Agree the art around the portal has confused a number of people - would have liked to take more time to polish some of it. I like your limited space idea.

@omar-14 thanks for the tip - I'll be sure to implement it later.

Reminds me of some flash games I used to play in computer class back in the day. Used to a pretty big Motherload fan so I have to be careful to not spend to much time on this. lol. The energy system to get better ore gen was clever and very well done. Biggest bit of feedback would be that progression at the start is a bit slow. I also encountered one glitch where I would be placed through the portal then back using all my energy but without the chance to mine. Bit annoying when you got to wait to re-enter.

sunnray 2020-10-05 12:54

Really addictive and fun to play! Although I wish the ball would just float around without the gravity, or at least the jumping would be slower, so it was easier to mine stuff that is directly above.

drsmey 2020-10-05 15:45

Very ambitious idea for a jam. Its a bit slow at the start but otherwise nice job!

mark-kelly 2020-10-05 15:46

Pretty fun, good job!

listonos 2020-10-05 17:28

I love strategy games so I have enjoyed this one. The progress is pretty slow, keep in mind most people will play for like few minutes. Jumping physics were little wonky.

mikoziq 2020-10-05 17:28

Ambitious project for Compo Entry. Interesting gameplay loop, longs for better progression system at the beggining. I also encountered a glitch when jumping in the 'main' world and clicking space constantly, I got stuck into one of the 'ground' tiles and then teleported to random world without clicking 'E' :smile:

Improve on graphics department would be cool, otherwise very good entry! Good job!

dr-v 2020-10-06 04:38

@thevideogamester thanks for the feedback, am a motherload fan too :). Agree regarding progression. Needed to allocate more time to polish vs developing features

@sunnray I dont know why I didnt just think of that and instead wasted time developing the torturous jumping mechanic. Ah well.

@drsmey thanks - agree on start

@mark-kelly thanks!

@listonos yep agreed, will focus next time on tailoring it towards the audience properly

@mikoziq I suspect that is likely to do the keyboard interacting with the UI, would have loved to fix it in time.

A lot of stuff here for a game jam. I guess you didn't get much sleep! A fairly slow start, but pacing a game like this takes a long time, so good work.

fractalsunrise 2020-10-06 19:02

This was really fun! I liked the feeling of exploration and advancement. I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if it was top-down rather than side to side; that way I wouldn't have to worry about digging myself into a hole while exploring. But overall great job! I kept wanting to go on just one more resource run... thanks for making it!

jimbly 2020-10-07 01:54

I love this! Really kept me going all the way until the end.

Had a few bugs that were annoying but not game-breaking - occasionally I'd press E to go from my base into the portal, but then immediately warp back to my base with 0 power (just had to wait for it to refill again). Would have *really* liked some feedback on when my inventory was full, I think I was often scrambling to mine a couple more blocks when I was actually long-since full. Sound of course would have helped that, but some text in the middle about "inventory full" when you fail to pick something up would have been really nice.

Average art design, next time will be better. Good and inovative game, good work. I supose you game will be at good place in fun, because it is FUN. Nicely fit into the theme. Overall your game is good, good job.

One last note: I always write down honest review, because everybody need that, not just nice craps with some bullshit, but sometime I will aperceite very good games. So if this review insult you, but use it well :) Anyway every game is counting so :)
