Graphics and audio, epic!! Controls: a little glitchy, still fun Movement mechanics: same feedback as controls, slightly frustrating Lighting and mood: NOICE Overall, it didn't follow the theme too well but I am very impressed if all this art was made during the jam. Mostly try to focus more on mechanics next time.
Cheers!
@skiwee thank u! everything here were made for this jam!
For a first try, this game is actually a pretty good attempt!
The controls felt kind of buggy, which made a lot of the jumps a bit of trial and error. It would also have been nice to see where the gravity gets flipped in the level, so the player can make the decision how the level is traversed. The way it is now had you kind of stumbeling forward to the next available platform, which made the interaction with your core mechanic more unreliable.
The graphics were very nice, I liked the medieval steam punk aesthetics and music. The lighting in the levels made the game very moody. Good job :)
@parkuhrmd thank u! we will do better job next time and fix our mistakes :comet:
The idea of the game is really interesting, but the overall playability was a little hard to deal with. The jumping in it wasn't that easy to navigate with and I found myself stuck in certain areas for quite a while, overall not a bad first try and I did enjoy the gravity aspect. I would suggest following up with more development and real fine tune the mechanics, then update it after the jam testing phase and you'll have a good little game on your hands! Well done.
@mirakazumi suggestion for physics: turn gravity up and make jumpforce larger, there's a GDC talk by Bennet Foddy (maker of getting over it) on 2d physics and how to make them feel better. Its a great talk, and I highly suggest you check it out.
@kira-yoshida thank u for this comment! lvl design got us and we did not have enough time for proper testing... but we know right now that easier could be better ant that we need to do more playthroughs. As u suggest game will be updated in future even just for ourselves :smile_cat:
@skiwee ooooh thank you so much!
Looks interesting! Do you have a possibility to build it for Mac?
Well i think it is ok for the first time... But yeah it is painful to play. For the first level shadows are mess up everything. I just went away from the screen and did not know what to do for a while. It was hard to understand main gravitation mechanic of the game. Sometimes i just walked and stuck in invisible wall or something. But it is a good try anyway. Keep up and do not give up!
I think with a bit more polish you could create a really great puzzle-platformer with this mechanic.
I have to agree that the buggy controls made controlling the player a bit tedious. At one point, I also got stuck in some corner and couldn't move. The jump might also be a bit too "floaty". However, the input felt very direct which is, I think, a good thing.
I felt like some of the levels were a bit too dark; I had problems figuring out what I was doing in the first level. Still, I understand that it also contributes a lot to the mood. Maybe try to be more careful where you place dark areas so the player doesn't lose track.
However, the atmosphere is really great! The art is well done and sells the mood.
For a first-time entry I feel this is a good start! Work a bit on the controls and the bugs and this could be a really nice game.
Control fells buggy, and there is no settings and exit game option. Music is fine, graphic also.
Music and art is nice, but I coulnd't stand controls and collisions. Nice first attempt at making game.
@malashik right now not but i hope that we could polish and update it in the future! @hank-ather thank u! @maliyshock @captainproton42 @szatku @just-dante thanks for important comments! we will take our game on higher lvl next time and fix those bugs and graphic mistakes!
we forgot to mention but audio is done by Piotr too!
The gravity mechanic is amazing, as some other people said controls feel a little bit weird but the graphics and the music are awsome, great job, great game!
Wow! Nice game! the aesthetics are so cool :3
I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection
This is cool for the first project. Some of the sprites were on top of the character for some reason. It also seems to me that the jump was not big enough. Because of this, for the passage, I used a character stuck in the walls (most likely this is a bug. And a little annoying). The graphics look cool.
Hey @mirakazumi and Piotr !
wow this is an impressive first try !
Very ambitious though which I guess is an obligatory learning step when starting in game dev
The art style I do like a lot, perharps the dark areas should not be total pitch black but some sort of transparent dark grey otherwise it does feel like you had a specific idea for the assets and background and I think you got that right !
As for the gameplay, controls feel a little sluggish, and I feel like solving a few problems with friction and onfloor detection would help a lot (ex: getting stopped mid air for touching the side of a platform / some jumps not triggering at all).
The gravity is a nice touch but this sort of mechanic needs a looooot of tweaking and is a hard thing to get right normally, so even more when you only have 72 hours ! But hey you tried it and actually made it work enough to be playable and that is in itself very impressive !
Congratulation on finishing your first game jam and keep up the good work !
Feel free to check out my entry and give me your opinions !
Cheers
Damien
Very good for a first attempt! I agree with previous feedback, so I'll try not to repeat everything that's already been said, though I did encounter a game breaking bug by reaching a ceiling I couldn't get down from, and then even losing the ability to jump completely. The graphics are nice, so it's a shame to have some pitch dark areas - try adding a low intensity global light!
waaah thank u all! we did not imagined that we would have so much feedback! @cesargary @eugenik @etrealjunior i'll check yours for sure! @ninjacatz we saw these sprites and will fix it! and thank u for mentioning bout jump-will take notes :heavy_check_mark: @guaranteedtrainwreck @eden-shazar thank u for constructive feedback! next time we would avoid black areas and test the jump more.
I bet that gravity was a pain to code! Haha. Not sure if it was intended but I was able to wall jump up pretty much anything. Great job and congrats on your first entry!
Hi guys! Nice first game, it has certainly room for improvements but it's a great start (much better than my first try, a while ago :D). Graphics and audio are already very good, you just need to work on the core mechanics a bit more and you'll have a really solid game. If I can give just one suggestion, try to come back at the codebase and focus on clean it up as much as possible so as to implement the same mechanics you have now with as little code as possible; this way it should be easier to pin-point the issues and focus on resolving them one by one.
Anyway, great work and I'm sure you had a ton of fun, which is the entire point of all this!
@evil-as-shit Piotr has done amazing job with ups and downs! and thank u for compliment! @tommy thank u foir suggestions and we had a lot of fun and stress (before finish) with this little game! but we want to do it again :dog:
Great work on the art! I didn't realize I could double jump for a while. I got stuck in a corner on the 3rd or 4th area and could not escape. The gravity idea is interesting.
Cool game
I feel like I shouldn't rate this, but I was not able to get past level1. Had no idea what to do
@rschoellgen @pashaloban thanks! next time we would do little tutorial first. @tuatarian at the first first u need to the door. next lvl is with gravity- double jump from the edge and arrow (first left and with the second jump right). if u pass this lvl next gonna be based on jumps and gravity^^ give it a second try, please!
I like your game, congrats. The art is particularly pleasing! Cheers
It looks promising, definitely not perfect but I don't need to repeat what others have said above. Good that you're getting into gamedev this way; you do indeed get a lot of good testers who actually give feedback here. I hope it encourages you to keep improving!
By the way, if the ratings will not very high, you should see that as a challenge to get better and keep going, and improve them in 6 months ;)
I really, really love the look of the protagonist, which made me curious for your game in the first place! Really like the gameplay concept, but yeah, it would need a bit of work maybe^^
Visually impressive for a short game jam. I had similar negative feelings about the controls as other comments have mentioned. Level-design-wise, I was unable to pass the second area, and I gave up after being stuck for about five minutes.
