Seems like a great concept! The art is fantastic, however the game seemed to stop functioning after the first level (For context - I played the HTML5/WebGL build), which was unfortunate as I wanted to play more! D:

retrogrademarmalade 2020-10-06 00:39

Love the graphics. key bindings for mouse free play would be enhance the experience.

scribbibble 2020-10-06 00:42

This was a lot of fun! (at least the first level..) The game stopped working for me after the first level, it just skipped through the remaining layouts without letting me play, but otherwise It's a really cool concept and a lot of fun to play this new take on breakout!

zrepa 2020-10-06 00:42

Yeah, same with writer above, had problems with next levels. But for the the game overall: looks very nice, but the music so dynamic, I think, when you play games like that, in my opinion it is better to have a calm music for the background.

Eyyyy GameEndevour! Big fan watch all the devlogs for Zoe and the cursed dreamer. Really liked the game and how you built upon the simple breakout gameidea but added mines and other things to spice it up. The art was pretty cool however i wish i could have played your game more if the webGL stopped crashing (not sure whats up with that). Anyways Awesome game : )

freddyturbina 2020-10-06 00:48

i have the same problem! but the game was greeat. if you fix it pless tag me i want to play every lv!

koolruz 2020-10-06 00:49

Echoing the above that the game seemed to stop working after the first level - But it was really colorful, appealing, and fun! Hitting the bomb blocks felt extremely satisfying, and the levels that came after the intro level certainly looked appealing, even if I couldn't try them out! I also played the HTML5 build.

I'm not sure if this was just on my end, but the game audio seemed to be pretty quiet, so I had to turn my volume up pretty high. Not a big deal either way, I just figured I'd mention it in case anyone else had a similar experience. :)

I ran into a bug after finishing the first level where the ball wouldn't spawn even though I had 2 lives left :( Other than that, the game looks and plays really good. A nice twist on a classic game. Keep it up!

game-endeavor 2020-10-06 01:18

@matt-jones @scribbibble @zrepa @zen @freddyturbina @koolruz @fedora

The bug should be fixed now. For some reason disabling debug export broke it. Let me know if you have any further issues. :)

bicheste 2020-10-06 01:18

Love the idea, good aesthetics. With the proper time and polish could be a solid game.

freddyturbina 2020-10-06 01:50

@game-endeavor yhea! that was great!!! <3

koolruz 2020-10-06 02:24

@game-endeavor Just played it again, and had a lot of fun with the other levels! The way the ball went straight through the heart after collecting the yellow powerup caught me by surprise, but I had plenty of time to react and loop back around to catch the ball, so it was a fun surprise! :)

galse87 2020-10-06 15:38

Howdy! I must say playing it felt quite rewarding with those cool sounds, screenshake and particles. Good job! The controls feels a bit weird tho. Wish there were more levels anyways.

Godot Tutorial Bear Person who told me all about statemachines and why I need them o:

The game plays great - controlling the bar is very intuitive and on point. Love the aesthetics you went for aswell.

I played the html and windows version. Due to the fact you're using Godot, I was curious to see how well the game performed in the browser, and as expected there were some mild to heavy lags (not gamebreaking though). I'm not much of a technical guy, and this may not be the right platform for it, but why not make a video on why Godot games have these annoying issues when ported to html5? (I obviously feel this has to be a general issue if even one of the youtube godot guides I trust can't just circumvent those problems).

Other than that - great fun, the game! The html version seems to be fixed now, the windows export still shows the layouts of unplayable maps after the first level, though.

barbiche 2020-10-06 16:17

Nice game, I like the concept, fits perfectly to the theme and it works well! Visuals are great too. The bar movements are kind of disturbing though, I don't really know why, it might need some polish. Great overall !

azagaya 2020-10-06 17:14

I like the innovation on a very well known game here. The graphics are cool, minimalistic. Breaking huge amount of bricks with those bombs feels rewarding. In level 3 i didn't understand why my ball went through all the bricks at first. I also liked that you only need mouse to play. Congrats! I think I found a bug, perhaps. Some times when I lost, the game over screen didn't disappear and I could hear the game going on in the background. I could loose again, and then the game showed for a bit, and again appeared the game over screen. I had to refresh the page.

hakro 2020-10-06 17:16

Cool little game. I really love the graphics, the glow effect, and the game juice. The music is cool as well. Got a few issues though. On Linux, when I finished the first level, I got to the second, but there was no ball, and then each time I clicked, I get to the next level. So on Linux I was only able to play the first level.

Then I tried the the game on the Web, and it worked better. I was able to move to the next level and play them. It's a bit laggy though, and controlling the bar with the mouse is a bit tricky since it's not full screen.

Got to say, I don't have the most up to date hardware either. My game suffers from the same issues when I test it :) It has a similar concept as your game as well.

Anyway, your work is awesome, and Godot is awesome. I will only get better. Cheers

tarvisplays 2020-10-06 18:28

Awesome game! I really liked the concept. The bar was a little weird on how it kind of lagged behind, but I can see how some might see that as a good thing! Great work!

victor-reiner 2020-10-06 18:44

It is somewhat difficult to control at first. But when you get the point, it's really cool! Great! I loved it

seth-tal 2020-10-06 18:45

This game is extremely simple, which I feel is its greatest strength. I'm not sure how exactly you calculated the ball's trajectory after colliding with the paddle but its absolutely perfect, as with enough precision I can essentially deflect the ball to exactly where I want to go. Its brilliant! Way to go! Honestly the only thing I would change would be to make the speed of the ball about 50% faster or more. Really great work here. This is absolutely in my top ten games this jam

crazi456 2020-10-07 05:25

Nice twist on breakout. Super polished, loved the neon!

sininenblue 2020-10-07 16:16

A really simple and extremely well polished, everything has that extra umph to it that makes this feel really really fun to play.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-07 19:02

A very enjoyable arcanoid, which reminds me solo pong from GMTK 2019, great effects, art and juice. Well done, and thank you for your tutorials.

svntax 2020-10-08 04:30

Really well polished game! I like the style. I played the web version and noticed that I could deflect back the ball even when it looked like it was a bit too late, which I think is fine since it makes the game more forgiving.

mhm32167 2020-10-08 16:56

Fun, simple yet addictive. Nice twist on the traditional game.

I tried the html version first but the sound didn't quite seem to sync and it was slightly laggy, so I ended up downloading the Linux version. However, I couldn't seem to full screen it, and it would also not allow me to progress beyond the first level. I tried the Windows version via Wine and it had the same issue. I went back to the html version and played beyond level one.

Despite the bugs, I really like the amount of polish that went into this for a jam game. I like the audiovisual feedback - the game feels pretty good to play. I quite enjoy your channel btw, hope you keep it up :)

namidasai 2020-10-09 11:26

Simple entry with a nice spin on the break out genre. Polished visuals and effects / animations, good soundtrack, not convinced about the SFX, but they could work for some. My only beef with it was that the movements and ball speed felt really slow as I went on. It would be nice if both paddle and ball speed increase in speed either through a special block, or just the longer you spend on the level. Otherwise, pretty sweet game, feels good to play!

skeffles 2020-10-17 15:52

This is a great concept. Took me some time to get used to the controls but had fun after that. I would have liked to have see the circle at all times to know where to drag my mouse to.

hawkin 2020-10-18 01:59

* Aesthetics - Awesome. Everything was clean and popped. Felt very polished. The sound design was great too. The sfx and particles gave really nice feedback. * Gameplay - Well implemented. I enjoyed how the paddle reacted to the changes in momentum. I also think you were forgiving with a "grace" period even when I got to the ball a little late, which I appreciated. I expect you didn't use physics for this, because it would have been a lot harder to control. Even if you did, I appreciate whatever work you put into polishing the mechanics, because it felt very smooth and predictable. * Controls - I was interested in using the arrow keys instead of the mouse. It might be a little less intuitive, but I also felt less precise using the mouse. * Music - Nice song, and it fit the aesthetics in a way, but I think I would have preferred something a little more relaxing without as much octane for this. I didn't want to feel so stressed :P * Overall - Good and effective implementation. It felt very polished. I liked the different bricks you placed in, as that added some variety to the strategy.

Nice job!

(Edit! I knew I recognized the icon from somewhere ... thanks for the Godot tutorials!)

blinry 2020-10-19 20:12

No way - another circular breakout! We made a similar game! :)

The special bricks are a clever idea, and give you something to aim for! Also, I felt like I had a lot of control over the ball! Neat execution of this idea!

Also, yay for Godot!
