Really interesting loop mechanic. Rocking sound and nice visuals. I am very bad at the game though and couldn't even get past 2nd level.

Hi! Sounds just super. But it was a little boring.
I think the artistic direction is incredible and that the game is really interesting
The concept match the mood perfectly ! well done
It's really a little boring, but audio and graphics are wonderful, in my opinion, this game just specific and not all people will like it, me too. But idea is great
I really like the unique concept and the aesthetics. I feel like the game could have conveyed the mechanics slightly better though. Overall pretty fun game.
It takes alot of big brain to play, but is is alot of fun and has great sound track, level design, graphics, and mechanics. It may only have ten levels but each level is different and is a good test of your skill.
Really cool concepts, aesthetics are really cool, but in execution i feel the gameplay was a little bit tedious, really nice music though
Unfortunately I struggled to play, mainly due to the loop being too fast :( But the aestethics, music and and concept are amazing!
Love the art style and music! And always love rhythm games, so I love to see them in gamejams :D
Great concept! But I found the time the player had to plot their moves wasn't long enough and felt frustrating being under pressure in that way.
Very interesting entry! As everyone else said, the aesthetic and the audio direction for the game was absolutely stellar, the filters and the glowing effects look incredible, the animations were smooth and the music was on point with the colour scheme. I have a soft spot for rhythm games.
Gameplay-wise I believe the concept itself is a little flawed, and I think the theme actually hindered more than it helped here. I love the more fundamental concept of almost programming in moves that are then executed to the beat in a majestic platforming dance, however unfortunately I feel like it doesn't *quite* work with this concept of forcing us to be locked into moves with each loop, especially with so little time to plan each time. The core issue with this for me is that with no time to plan, I never felt like having my actions be looped was a good thing, it just felt more difficult to plan. My dominant strategy for the early half of the game ended up being memorising what the correct route should be then entering it all at once after resetting a dozen times.
One final niggle is I'm not sure why your Unity game has an installer? That's rather inconvenient for a jam, and the game is pretty big for what it is, I'm assuming lots of uncompressed audio.
I think Rhythm Step has a lot of potential and the music and the beep beep beep beep is sitll in my head, so you definitely did things right! Well done for some good work in such short time.
The game was visually quite good, and the music was also quite nice, I wish there was vertical and horizontal shifts on music based on the player input and a visual indicator on for the loops like a playhead to show how much time we have before the loop ends or rather starts reading inputs from the piano roll. A few more developers hand tricks were need to make it clear and easier, also the visuals are amazing, but kind of chaotic but to too much camera moment. A solid entry, all the best!
Solid art and audio. Love the synthwave aesthetic (probably because we went there too). I'm not exceptional at puzzle games but a game like this felt like there was an optimal route to learn and enter that in to get to the end in one go. But I think you designed it so you needed to edit your input partway through a level? I think I got to level 3 and couldn't get past. As others have said the time to enter your choices was way to short. I think you could have the music just vamp on 8 bars and then once your ready hit a go button and it initiates your sequence in the next available window.
Also someone else mentioned it but I'm not sure why you made the game install? I almost didn't play because I was a bit sketched out. In the future, just take the files that the build gives you and zip it up and upload the zip to itch or what not. Then people can just unzip and launch the exe directly.
Yeah loved your graphics and the concept. But it would be nice if it's more dynamic. Like there was a lot energy in the music but gameplay didn't really match it. Loved the way that the character was tied to the rhythm.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I agree that the entering moves mechanic should be slower, at the time I couldn't think of a way to make it line up with the music without doing what I did. I really liked the press a button to continue idea. Maybe just apply a low-pass filter when you're entering moves then have a short countdown to realign it with the music after pressing a button? I'm glad that everyone liked the music. It's probably what I spent the most time on overall. And about the installer thing, I definitely think it's valid to think a random installer is sketchy. I'm just used to making installers because most of my family prefers them because it's easier for them to figure out and they think it's safer because it looks more "professional" (yes I know that's completely wrong) and I figured that putting it on Game Jolt would make it clear that it's actually a game. If I had uploaded the game to my website, Absolutely don't install it. I wouldn't even trust something from there, it's not a secure site and can probably be hacked incredibly easily.
I really liked the audio visual experience. The entire game jamming to the beat was really dope. The mechanics are very cool too, I really like how you progressively program the movement. I think this mechanic has a huge depth to it that could be further explored. Sometimes it was hard to understand what the different combinations of movement s will do. But I am not sure whether that's the game's fault.
Really cool ! The music is great, and the neon vibe gives it a really cool atmosphere ! I is a bit too hard in my opinion, the fact that you have very little time to choose your actions, you have to keep the actions for the next loop, and everything resets if you fail, it all contributes to make the game so hard that reaching the third level is already an achievement. some easier levels would have been welcome to let people really practice the mechanics before tackling that one. Really good game overall !
