Really fun game, but the audio holds it back a little. Even so, solid game!

Really neat and fun to play

I like it! The art looks really good and the sound effects are satisfying. The only thing is I don't like having to keep pressing the space bar, I'd like to be able to hold it down to shoot.

Great atmosphere! I thought the gameplay was fun and the graphic design and way you built in the tutorial were wonderful.

I have to admit I tricked myself - I saw the enemies get stuck on the brain when coming to get me, so I tried to shoot through the brain to hit them and... well, that speaks for itself.

I probably could have advanced a bit faster if there was a visual prompt to pick up the brain again once I cleared out all the enemies in the area, but that might just be according to taste and I don't know if it would fit the game.

I was really surprised when I hit the second "environment" in the game. Good stuff.

Fun to play. Well graphics. Collision behaves a bit strange, but it's OK for 48 hours i think)

I found a bug. I'm stuck in the corner and can't move out of it after I fought the red thing.

Anyway, the sound effects are nice! And the art is cute. I like the colors, especially the ones used in the green grassy world. I would've liked some music in the game to enhance the mood, though.

Great game! The only problem I had is that I got trapped by enemies and couldn't move. Other than that its really nice!

Hahaha, i have a good laugh when I found out i can break the purple box myself

Really solid entry! The art is simple but very clean, and there's enough variety to give the sense of a full world. When I stepped into the bushy area I had an immediate sense of "oh, there's more than just a bunch of levels in a row."

The audio is a bit simple, and got repetitive. It was nice that the player had a walk sound, but without other sounds to compete with it, it got a bit tedious.

I really liked the intuitiveness of the level layout; when I saw the branching path with the two gates, I immediately realized I had to beat two challenges to proceed. Similarly, when I saw the little corner in the top left as you're leaving the brown zone, I knew there must be somewhere I could go back there.

I did find Shmoop, then promptly lead him to the brain room to his death. RIP Shmoop, again.

Pretty smooth other than minor graphical bugs (shadow rendering over walls) and getting stuck in a corner on one run. Lowest hanging fruit for improvement would probably be checkpoints --- because your walk speed is slow, it feels really bad to have to completely restart and do the introductory levels again.

Overall, great work for Compo! Best of luck for the rest of rating.

I love the blocky graphics style, and writing the "SPACEBAR", "E" controls on the ground at the beginning was a nice touch. Great job overall!

This is really impressive, especially if this is the first game you've ever finished! I thought the level design introduced the game rules really well, especially the part where you can block enemies using the brain. I would maybe have the restart go back to the current room rather than the beginning of the game, but that's a minor thing. Overall this is really great, nice job!

The art style is really clean and cute, and the walk animation is simple but really charming. Well done! I agree with @kevinworkman that the restart could be a little easier on the player, especially since margin of error can be really thin once enemies start pushing you around. :snake:

That was fun, I really like the way the pixels bounce up and down on the main character when he walks, and the puzzles were enjoyable. Unfortunately I also got stuck against the wall. It would have been nice if the restart was on the same screen, especially for LD you don't really want to go through everything again. Nice entry.

Really cute game, I managed to get stuck in a wall but this was overall really fun! I liked the different art styles as you got to different areas of the game. Made me go :o when I accidentally shot "it" but it was a fun experience overall :) keep it up

Solid little game, I really like the art style and color palette- the color gradient on the walls and boxes really helps give depth to an otherwise flat style!

bredian 2020-04-24 20:55

Impressive for the first finished game. Tho with some little improvements this game would become better. I'd like to see some visual indication of how much hp left on my character. It was implemented on boxes, stones and brain, why don't use it on the protagonist? Some checkpoints would also be useful. I get why there is no checkpoints here (makes it kinda like TLOZ dungeon), but without them someone could just drop the game. I would also like to see some vertical and/or diagonal shooting. But even in current state this is solid entry.

fizzyapple12 2020-04-24 21:15

I really like this game! It has a unique art style and a unique game play to it. I think if you added some more levels to this it would be amazing. Awesome work!

black-flag 2020-05-04 14:39

Really like the graphics! The combat was also very unique by being only able to shoot left or right! A health bar might have been helpful or some way of seeing the player's health. Also, some checkpoints would have been very helpful, as there is a lot of fun to be had, however repeating stuff if you die can be annoying sometimes. Overall, I enjoyed playing your entry, and it is a great Compo submission!
