Nice sound effects. I got problem with the camera. I die to many times because i can't see below me. Maybe try to center more camera on player to see more. Good Job.

Has a cool idea, just a bit frustrating and a little buggy, i would suggest moving the camera down a little bit, i found my self wasting oil waiting to see what was below me
Really good game! I love the sounds and the music, it was also quite challenging and fun to play. Would have loved to play more
Really good game, in my opinion! I really enjoyed the sound design, as well as the music and everything about the ending. Mood was great, and the mechanic has its beginnings. Maybe increase the radius of light around the player? Anyway, I enjoyed it immensely.
Gorgeous 2D game. Good job. Interesting decision about red elements, that give you health.
the UI isn't one of the best that i have seen but the graphics make up for that and you nailed the theme
My man we have the same game name and similar game play. Great Minds think alike. Good work i really liked the falling platforms
A surprisingly enjoyable platformer, I really enjoyed the fact that you felt strained for time, and the placement of objects seemed very nice and fair, but not too easy. I think the sound was atmospheric and added to the mood without intruding too much. The ending credits were a bit hard to follow, but it's better than some games which didn't even have any, so that's always a plus! Congrats on making this game, it was a fun experience.
I like this game
Not bad! The character is too low on the screen and that bothered me a bit. Overall pretty cool, gave it a lot of attempts but those water pumps are a killer :P
Challenging game, fun game. I liked the checkpoint mechanic, takes a little long to relight the lamp but can refill the lamp after respawn to hack a bit more time and get a better picture of the start of the level. Punchy ending with some good tunes and I liked the credits-scrolling effect with the lamplight, well done. Good level design with nicely spaced and timed obstacles and checkpoints given the run speed. The background parallaxes a little fast. The platforms are super sensitive and maybe shouldn't start when you hit them from the side. The barrel of oil is HUGE. As others said maybe a adjust camera position lower and dampen the follow speed somehow. Maybe have the lamp explode when you get put out so you get a little glimpse of where you died. Good job.
Thank you so much to everyone who has commented so far! This was my first game jam, and really my first actual game. It's something I wanted to do for a long time and all of these positive comments and critiques make me really proud of myself and what I can accomplish. Thank you again, and I hope you continue to have fun with my game!
Like people said, the camera was a bit low, and I also thought some of the graphics were a little iffy. I'd also change the jump button to jump once, rather than repeatedly as I kept landing on a platform I couldn't see and jumping too early. Other than that, very strong game, one of my favourites. The audio design was easy 5* and very appealing to listen to. Controls were pretty tight, and the mechanics were clever and enjoyable. Level design was overall very good. The ending took me by surprise and I wasn't sure how to feel, but it had a bittersweetness that I won't forget in a hurry. Grand job, you've got something to be proud of here! :)
I really loved it. Nice Ambient. great mood. I liked the hooded thing and the deep background. Excellent sound effects. The crickets, the steps on the grass, the lighter, the barrel, important details. Very well done.
I die to many times because i can’t see below me. Nice ambient tho!
I agree with everyone else about the camera. The only way to pass the game is to learn the layout. I also feel like there's a missed opportunity on with the water: instead of killing you instantly it would lower your oil level. Nice but basic sounds, pixel art never fails and the mood was great! for your fist game a solid entry! keep it up
Really like the visuals, sounds and overall feel of the game, but have trouble actually playing it - usually oil starts going down before light is on and sometimes even ends before the light turns on. (Would make for a good challenge, but feels too inconsistent for that, so probably a bug)
Not seeing anyone else with this issue, am I just dumb and don't know how to play properly?
I made it to the poem at the end! I thought the game had a good atmosphere, and that the difficulty was just about right. The platforming felt good, but it was hindered by the camera (player is too close to the bottom of the screen). I appreciated the little touches: like the sound of refilling the lantern, and how you could make a panicked search for oil after falling in the water.
Great entry
The graphics were well executed, the lantern light, and the silhouettes looked pretty cool. I'm not sure if it was just my computer, but the lantern oil depletes extremely quickly. In the first stretch with the falling water it felt impossible to complete in time, even on the attempts that I moved near perfectly. Echoing what others have said about the camera position, it would have been nice to be able to see lower, especially since down does not always mean death. Additionally, having the oil drain about a sixth of the way before even being able to start moving after death was annoying, would have preferred not to have to bump in to the oil can again to have the maximum amount of time before running out.
I liked the graphics and the sounds but the camera was too high up and I couldn't see the ground very well so I didn't know where I was falling.
