Good entry! Nice artstyle. I loved the music, great guitar playing :).
Pretty good game! I love the simplistic art, the white outline on the player and zombies really helped them stand out from the background. The axe hitbox was hard to master and I might've missed the zombies like 7 times... The music reminds me of Country Road (in a good way), very laid back and casual, which really fits the game well. The game is fun and a great time killer :D Good job guys!
Loved the art style and the catchy music! Good balance of risk and reward in the gameplay, too. Great entry!
That was a fun game! I really liked the art, music, and sound effects. I tried to write this comment with the music in the background but of course I was being attacked by zombies so it didn't really work out. One small thing is that the hitboxes and responsiveness on the attacks felt a bit off, but maybe that was just me (In my video you might sometimes see me just standing there and taking zombie hits, but I'm actually spamming the attack button!). I could see this being a really cool post-jam project with some tweaks and more variety. Great job!
Cool! Zombie so cutie
Cute art style and great music. Simple but fun mechanics
Best aspect of the game is the audio feedback. Being able to tell when a tree is being hit is vital for this kind of game, and the sound effects fill that need. I do like how there is a natural difficulty curve as the trees that need to be chopped up become farther away from the fire as it is natural instinct to do the close ones first. Hitting the zombies was weird, it seemed like they could be hit anywhere around the player, but trees could only be chopped from right next to it. I was bummed to see that switching to the ax while holding a log dropped and broke the log, I almost would rather have a zombie pick it up and carry it away. The rapid pressing of the ax was cumbersome to do, it would be nice to have it keep swinging as the button is held down. Real cute looking game overall, nice work!
I love the audio design and art, seems very matching. the movement is fast and good. But you can't move vertically when moving horizontally. The zombie is kinda weird to attack too. But overall great, the collision feels smooth and the movement is fast. pix'sgame.png
Great graphics and nice idea, but honestly I would not have added the zombies (the combat with them does feel a little wonky) but rather focused on adding more to the core gameplay of refueling the fire.
Personally i think the game needs a bit more balancing. The logs don't do enough to be worth storing and the zombies are numerous enough to consider them as any more then an annoyance. The combat also needs to be something beyond spamming the axe.
The graphics were pretty good and i think with a bit more work this could be an interesting exploration focused game.
The Mac app is broken. This is probably not your fault, but just figured I would give you a heads up. Looks like great work though!
Hi! Nice good entry! I likes the art graphics and the music, however I have to look in the comments in order to get help for axe the trees, so maybe a tutorial was needed. But It's a really good entry! Good Job!
@thermacon thanks, we had no way to try :)
The art is really nice and the game is fun
Great game, the graphics are amazing, the overall game is fantastic but the attack against the enemies were not much effective jajaj :D! Please rate our game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/resquack thank you!
Nice work here! I go into these games blind without reading the descriptions, and your game was incredibly intuitive and I knew what I was doing from the start.
A few points:
* Graphics were fantastic, I love the game's style and your sprites were great to look at.
* Sound effects are cute! They fit the graphics well and create a nice mood in the game.
* The gameplay is great, controls felt awesome and I didn't feel held back by them.
Awesome work, and I hope to see more from ya in future Jams :)
Overall great fun, brilliant artwork and a fab entry! We played this with you on stream yesterday and it was very enjoyable! I think the art could be improved slightly by varying the colouring of the ground somewhat or giving it a texture, rather than just solid colour. All the pixel art in the game looks great and to have that on the ground would complete the environment for me. Great work team!
@max-louis thanks :) I run a bit out of time to make a proper ground. Is it possible to stil view it as a video on demand? Watching someone play a game I worked on just makes my day <3
@pixelcrustpunk Yes! :) twitch.tv/maxlouiscreative We throughly enjoyed streaming the game, makes our day that it makes yours :)
@tygrak @meowdy @thought-reactor You guys are too kind :) If you like that style of music, I think you'd really like Elizabeth Cotten and Mississippi John Hurt, who inspired me--I was doing an impression of them.
What a cool game! With a simple design, good colors and a good idea. I found the song very well done, but very short. bigger songs make the audio more interesting. SFX are round. At first I had a hard time killing the zombies, but then I got the timing. I found it a disadvantage that the woodcutter could only walk up, down and sideways while the zombies could walk everywhere, even diagonally. It could leave the life of fire in pixel art as well as everything else.
Congratulations for the game!
Thanks for playing my game! I wanted to play yours, but there is no option for us Linuxers :(
I really like the idea. Always nice to chop some wood! Cute artstyle. Please consider that also people with 4K monitors play your game. It was super tiny on my screen :)
@stanov yes, unfortunately it only works on windows :(
@bitbrain did you try the fullscreen mode? how was that?
