That's a cool game you made there!

johnnydalvi 2019-04-30 21:05

I like the concept, I just feel that the game being time dependant isn't a good option for a single player game, perhaps adding something in there, even an activity that the player has to do in order to harvest the resources (it would still be time dependant, but the player would actively be doing something instead of just waiting). Other than that, that's a pretty cool game, congrats.

veryeviltomato 2019-04-30 21:08

Excellent concept! And very well introduced too, loved how in the end all of the souls were sacrificed, graphics work pretty good with the concept although I didn't like pixels and high res fonts mixed up.

Can't criticize much though! Since this is great work for only one guy. May I ask, what enigne did you use to make this game?

palsina 2019-04-30 21:08

I find this type of games really addicting, only could have been better with a proper animation of the pyre!

mrdrakert 2019-04-30 21:09

What an addicting game xD I couldn't stop playing until I beat it tbh. Nice graphics and absorbing gameplay

enumox 2019-04-30 21:10

Really nice game, I feel like the theme was greatly used with the concept of souls :)

slotha 2019-04-30 21:10

Incredible Game! I played way too long and completed it, it is really fun to watch all the numbers rise. Keep at it!

drcheetos 2019-04-30 21:11

Nice game ! made me play till the end.

gludo 2019-04-30 21:11

nice game ! feels like a clicker, withouth the need to click !

maakole 2019-04-30 21:11

I love this game. I feel like there's a lot of ways to expand on it in the future if you really wanted to, but as it stands it's a really well made idle game. Great use of the theme too!

jm-studio 2019-04-30 21:12

Very good game, good graphism, good use of thema I really enjoyed playing :)

kpedatte 2019-04-30 21:19

Oh yeah, this game is great. It's a short but full experience. And the game is polished. I loved it Congrats

cuppycat 2019-04-30 21:20

I'd play the heck out of it if you decide to expand and add some stages inbetween or after the end :D

esben-jensen 2019-04-30 21:25

This is a nice little game. I love it. The clean simple graphics feels good, and it's a wise choice as well. And I agree with the others, it's the kind of game that you have to play through to the end. Well done.

rose 2019-05-01 01:21

@veryeviltomato: I didn't use a game engine, just Javascript with HTML/CSS, which works well for such a UI-heavy game.

veryeviltomato 2019-05-01 02:56

@rose Not even a graphics library? Are you a DOM wizard? lol

douglima 2019-05-01 04:39

Such a nice, concise short game. I really like it! Had a lot of fun playing with it, it was really satisfying to see the materials go up so quickly and automate the whole process towards the end. Everything is so clean and polished! Really, really good work. I just felt that it needed sound to make it absolutely 100% satisfying, other than that it's great! :)

rose 2019-05-01 05:15

@veryeviltomato: Nope, it's all divs/imgs with some CSS animations/transitions! In the past I've mostly used Unity and Phaser to make games, but working with HTML elements directly saved me a ton of time when laying out the UI for this one (compared to the manual positioning I'd have to do for an HTML5 Canvas game.)

keyurrana 2019-05-03 04:39

Very nice and simple game. Loved playing it till the end. I thought the game would get slower towards the end but then I got golems who kept the game going at a proper rate. You can make this into something bigger by adding some more features, would love to play more of it.

Also, this fits last LD's theme too - "Sacrifices must be made".

Great job!

ashtrail 2019-05-04 14:49

Very cool game !

I'm not sure is the "known issues" for the music and audio means it's a bug or not, from what I understand it's not (a bug that is). If that's the case, since you applied for a Jam you were allowed to get royalty free sfx and music. Next time it's worth considering, as it doesn't take that much time but really adds a lot to a game.

The pixel art is very nice and cute. The UI is clean and understandable. There's always something to do and it's nice and relaxing to see the number grow. It was an enjoyable play through !

By the ways just by curiosity, when you say Javascript and HTML, do you mean a js framework like React or just plain vanilla js (perhaps JQuery) ? (if it's the latter you are brave :P )

I have a small question though, who's the Temple of Souls for, if everyone is dead ? (I thought I could save a few dudes at first, but the Golem army was too tempting)

Anyways it's a really nice game, well done !

rose 2019-05-06 21:09

@ashtrail: Thanks! I agree that music and audio add a lot, but I just ran out of time to find and hook up any.

As far as the JS framework, I actually started using Angular because I wanted to give it a try, but since I hadn't used it before and it's not intended as a game engine, it was taking me too long to figure out how to get the game working using Angular. So I ended up giving up on that and just using vanilla JS functionality. There's not really that much DOM interaction besides moving the dragged resources and showing/hiding different elements of the UI (which is done by adding and removing CSS classes.) I might share the source code later but I want to clean up some of the terrible code I wrote at 3am first. :)

As far as the Temple of Souls, it's meant to be ironic that the only (practical) way to build it is to sacrifice everyone. There's not much backstory or worldbuilding behind it, but I just thought it would give the game an interesting ending.

Well put together/unique implementation of a crafting game, with the different elements like the little people that can generate wood/stone etc over time rather than being instantly converted. The art is cute, UI is clean and everything works smoothly. The expansion mechanic works well and brings an element of resource balancing in, requiring you to prioritize based on what you need. The theme fits in well with it all. Would work well as an idle game if you wanted to expand it.

I love the amount of content you've added in, like the golems, all the many different types of resources/'buildings', the forge where you need to combine multiple resources, the ability to place the characters across the temple. Easy to tell a lot of effort went into this, and the result is great.

Very addicting. With a little help from my golem friends, I completed the Temple of Souls!

Cool game, it's cool that you have to use all the real people to win as you need all the souls to complete the game.

But, I would addd something like a risk factor, and actually choosing between stuff, as the game as it is, is pretty linear, but it's a very cool game for a LD ^^

drskort 2019-05-16 18:58

Really good game ^^ It was very sad that I had to kill almost everyone of them in order to build this temple but at least one survived ^^ I like the cute artstyle ^^ Some music would have been nice but it's a really good short game ^^

belea 2019-05-16 19:33

Probably the game that I have enjoyed the most of the LD, well played the theme interpretation. Very fluent and well balanced. Good Job!

pequenodev 2019-05-16 21:32

Oh dude sweet game, i enjoyed it too much. Loved the drag and drop design and minimalist visual style. Just a pleasure, i finished it and keep hungry :p Good job!

martynas 2019-05-17 18:54

Really cool game. Definitely has the best UI of all the games I played this jam. Good job!

ziplockbagman 2020-05-03 22:04

Really enjoyed it. Simple but moreish. Would be good if you added more decisions or things to react to, but as a prototype its great.
