Oh snap. Our game names are the same.

wubbaduck 2019-04-29 04:07

Oh nice! They are. I wondered why my URL had a "-1" on the end

zactical 2019-04-29 04:13

Wow, I really liked it! Incredible use of the theme as well as a super unique mechanic in switching health between both characters. I found it a bit hard early on while trying to figure out how each level played but overall its a wonderful puzzle/platformer. Top notch pixel art, the whole theme felt very unified. Incredible job!

wubbaduck 2019-04-29 04:26

@zactical Thank you! I really appreciate it. I intended it to be difficult but I think I may have overdone it a bit. With the hazards that I implemented I found it difficult to balance the level difficulty with making it feel too sparse.

Thank you for the feedback on the pixel art as well! To be perfectly honest, this is the first time that I've ever done pixel art. I'm quite please with how it turned out. Hopefully its a skill that I can build on and get better at in the future.

zactical 2019-04-29 05:04

@wubbaduck first time on the pixel art?! Wow, impressive stuff. I would have guessed you had a lot of experience. I also tried my hand at pixel art for the first time on my game and found it quite hard to get something I liked. Keep it up with making art and games!

jjjjason 2019-04-29 06:23

That is a very novel mechanic, and fun interpretation of the them. Agree with zactical, the game is quite punishing, often requiring me to transfuse every last drop (and then kill myself when I accidentally tranfuse one pixel too far, lol).

One potential issue I ran into is with the physical simulation; maybe I was doing something wrong but it didn't happen the same way every time. This resulted in one of the levels (the one with the two rocks that fly towards each other) rolling into and over the door a couple of times. After dying a couple times though, I got into an instance where the stopped fine in the middle, so it wasn't that bad.

Also harpsichords rule!

zimennik 2019-04-29 06:27

Nice idea and great realization! Over time, music starts to get annoying.

wubbaduck 2019-04-29 16:21

@jjjjason Thanks for the feedback! I would like to do another balance pass on it. I want to force the player into needing to use the transfuse mechanic but there's a fine like between that and requiring pixel perfect transfusion.

I was seeing some strange physics things happen from time to time. My favorite was when I had a spear come in at mach 3! The one with the two rocks: the left rock is thrown a bit harder than the right rock with the intent that it would get in the way if the player was too slow in traversing that level. But maybe it should be toned down a bit if it was too oppressive.

Harpsichords are a must when dealing with Vampires! But I agree with @zimennik that the music starts to get annoying after a bit.

decadedecaf 2019-04-29 22:25

I really like the game. One thing I found myself doing was beating a level as one character and donating the rest of the blood to the other. It might be a fun idea to introduce a mechanic that encourages more swapping, like buttons/levers or ways to get more blood. Overall very enjoyable!

wubbaduck 2019-04-30 00:57

@decadedecaf Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I have been seeing that same thing with family/friends play testing it locally as well. I found that balancing the transfusion mechanic with the level design was a bit tough. It would help if the default level size was a bit larger. If I decide to expand on the game I would love to add more mechanics like gates that require a blood payment to open, blood pickups, buttons, levers, larger levels stuff like that. So we're on the same page

meursault 2019-04-30 07:47

I really enjoyed you game, the transfusion mechanic is novel. The levels are really hard sometimes. It feels like slapstick when a rock appears out of nowhere to run you over :-D Good job!

adam-clayden 2019-04-30 14:44

Really like this game. The transfusion mechanic really makes you think about how best to beat the level. At the start I didn't actually notice what the transfusion did, so maybe some sort of visual effect could help that? Maybe some red dots floating toward the other character, or even make one go blue and the other red? Other than that it's a fun game

wubbaduck 2019-04-30 16:47

@adam-clayden Good idea! I'll have to play around with that a bit to see if I can come up with a visual effect that works well. Might be a good chance to learn Unity's particle system. Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

evan-m 2019-05-01 05:30

Great art and sound but I did the same thing as decade decaf. I think it would be cool if there were blood refills throughout the level so you had to do it in a certain order. I also found the game was too much like trap adventure 2 for how good the mechanic was.

hypp 2019-05-01 05:33

Great use of the theme with the blood transfusion! I got stuck at the level with the two balls since they kept rolling and blocking the exit. Also the minimal music worked really well.

wubbaduck 2019-05-01 05:42

@evan-m For the level progression, I've been brainstorming what I could add to make the game a bit more fleshed out and I'm looking forward to growing the levels So I can add more content that doesn't drive into that sort of gameplay. Also, I had never played trap adventure 2, but now I'm laughing my head off! I can totally see why you would think that. Thanks for checking the game out.

wubbaduck 2019-05-01 05:46

@hypp I'm glad you like the transfusion mechanic. I didn't like it that much when I first came up with the idea but it worked out a lot better than I expected.

It's a bummer that you got stuck. But I can't be giving out spoilers here  Just gotta make sure to beat the bottom first.

justcamh 2019-05-01 06:54

Okay... So I got through the entire game, wondering why it was called Transfusion. I completed it, then was redirected to the menu where I realised there was a control I hadn't once used; transfusion... Does that mean I got the hardcore ending? Could have made some puzzles where the transfusion was actually *required* to pass, rather than a helpful hand? Should also make the extra control more obvious. I gave the control scheme a glance, saw wasd and didn't expect any abnormal controls, so I didn't scrutinise further.

The game was still very fun. The punishing gameplay was actually quite cool, and I enjoyed it even without the transfusion mechanic. I was going to complain about the two screens being completely disjointed (for me it was like I was playing two separate levels), but now I see I was playing wrong. Could maybe make a hardcore mode; no transfusions?

Awesome stuff!

wubbaduck 2019-05-01 14:44

@justcamh I'm legit impressed that you were able to finish it without using transfusion! I didn't know that was possible  I tried to balance the levels to be punishing and require the use of transfusion. I like the idea of a hardcore mode. Maybe as I expand the mechanics and levels it could be added! I'm also noticing that everybody is playing this different and doing things that I really never expected. Thanks for checking it out!

@ursagames Thanks for playing Transfusion on your stream! You didn't get to it until almost 5am my time. So I wasn't able to watch live. But you give some good points. The dropping bricks do have a bug where the collider stays active when they fall on top of each other. So it breaks consistency. I'm hearing multiple people comment on how they expected the boulders to not deal damage after they stop moving. So I will need to consider making that change. I like how you pushed one spear along the ground to try to help block the third spear! Another bug I'm seeing is that because of the slower update rate of the WebGL player the two colliders on the vampires will sometimes both trigger the spears and boulders. So every once in a while I see them come flying out at double the speed. Lesson learned: protect collider rules better! Thanks for giving it a playthrough!

Great concept and overall good execution on this game! I like the graphic style.

lillybyte 2019-05-01 16:28

This game is pretty unique in its own right. My main suggestion would be to give an indicator that a 'spear' is ready to launch, like the tip sitting out of the wall, or a visible launcher. But it's definitely a great game!

wubbaduck 2019-05-01 16:52

@lillybyte Thanks for the suggestion! I'll need to investigate that a bit more. I've got quite a list forming of great feedback to investigate and implement.

cogcomp 2019-05-04 20:04

Clever idea and a nice execution. Well done! Really liked the atmosphere the music gave.

al-bueche 2019-05-04 20:06

I like the simultaneous puzzles concept, but I found myself largely ignoring the transfusion mechanic. The two paths usually had a similar level of difficulty, so I either died on both routes or neither. There were also many situations that either resulted in death regardless of my HP (stuck between boulders, etc) or left me without enough time to make use of the mechanic.

I was a bit frustrated by traps hurting me after they'd stopped moving, particularly the boulders that tend to end up in front of the exit. That said, it did force me to rethink the order in which I approached the challenges, which ended up feeling rewarding.

nathant 2019-05-04 20:13

This is really well balanced for a complex mechanic. Loved having to balance deliberately taking damage as a means to reach the goal. I laughed when I killed myself by giving too much blood, but probably not something I would ever do intentionally. The spear barrage was also great. Solid level design, would definitely play more.

copper-aardvark-games 2019-05-04 21:51

Great take on the theme and really nice graphics!

Really nice game! Liked the slight puzzle style of it
