I find your soundtracks really funny.

But one of the dwarfs robbed me to death in a corner

don-shinski 2019-04-30 15:23

haha, they are relentless! thanks for playing

Hhahahaha. Really funny game. The audio is amazing. Also the idea is not bad, but I find a bit strange the fact that dwarves take money that you get from selling their babies (seems like they don't like their babies , bad parents), but anyway I enjoyed playing it. Great job!

This game is really funny! Love the voiceover work you're doing here, it adds so much to the lightheartedness of the game (along with the music). I do wish I could have traveled farther away from the inn without incurring much of a tax, and I think it could be a little easier to pick up babies if they're above/below you. With that said, the game is a lot of fun, and I enjoyed playing. Thanks for making this!

m'bebe's, they escape me! i actually like the distance tax as a mechanic, this sort of game makes you want to run away and dawdle to escape the dwarves, but the distance tax going up sort of keeps that defensive behavior in check and forces you play more aggressively.

Pretty funny concept haha. Also thought the choice of music and art was great. I liked the map that you made with the assets, the variety of areas was nice.

I couldn't figure out what to do with the axes and sometimes the babies seemed to escape when I was carrying them. Unfortunately I ended up getting stuck in a wall a few levels in, but had fun overall!

I noticed that sometimes you can see a tiny 1-pixel crack between the tiles. We used to have this problem in our tile-based games until I found out that extruding the assets by a pixel or two fixed it for us. You could give that a try if it bugs you (https://www.codeandweb.com/texturepacker/documentation/texture-settings if you search for "extrude" on this page it gives a little more explanation)

Funny concept. Though I had no idea the axes could be thrown in the dwarfes, and it seems like the axes and babies could only be caught if you are at their sides. Also they keep their colliders when you're carrying them, resulting in you getting stuck in some places because they are blocking your way.

The game is nice and has potential! Good job! :)

idea is funny and audio is good. The gameplay is weird : i loose my baby almost all the time when i change direction, maybe there is some bugs?

don-shinski 2019-05-17 02:51

@mgsx definitely bug-ridden! The babies and also the axes are dropped if they collide with something while you are carrying them. Missed opportunity to add some sound effects. Thanks for the feedback!

That was strange indee :) The art lured me to your game and the gameplay seemed simple enough, AFTER finding out, that you're supposed to push the babies into your inn. That objective wasn't really clear when I first started to play. My main issue with the gamplay is, that the controls and the collision detection is the main enemy of the game. I had real problems getting a baby from another tilemap to the one, my inn was located. Right at the border, I couldn't push the babies anymore. Then the dwarfs ran into me (which are way to fast btw) and the "o-o-o-o-o-o-ouch o-ou-ou-ou-ou-ouch" sound started to play, which gave me the rest. Didn#t really feel satisfying to play and I didn't have much fun with it, to be honest. The gameplay could've been a little bit more interesting and mechanical challenging. Just pushing sprites around while avoiding stalking dwarfes isn't the most enchanting evening activity :)

don-shinski 2019-05-17 15:29

Thanks for the feedback @duke! It could definitely use more explanation, a tutorial or intro perhaps. Were you able to pick up the babies and carry them? Just pushing them around would definitely be difficult.

duke 2019-05-17 16:14

Oh, I totally oversaw the hint to press space to interact... thanks @don-shinski. Now ,the game makes a lot more sense and the axes are even usable now to fight off the dwarfs. I adjusted the ratings accordingly.

Well, now my feedback is more like: The levels could change a little more... if they change at all(?). It feels like the levels just repeat themselves. Interacting with the babies and the weapons works okish, but sometimes it seems like the vampire should pick the baby up, but doesn't do it. Also, the collision detection is still a problem, especially around the level itself, because you can't go behind stuff, it feels really weird being stuck a lot of times even though, my intuition says, I should be able to walk through.

Your pick-up mechanic needs some work. I like the narrative, and exploring the different areas, but having a time limit and almost no way to defend yourself made exploring hard. :(
