Love the opening and the visual style in general. My high score was 274.1!

I didn't expect to like this that much! I had a jolly good time trying out different designs, although nothing really seemed to beat the simple left wing/right wing combo. Maybe I just need to keep looking!

I really liked the mood, it really felt like I was back in the days, trying to glide my way out into the unknown.... FOR SCIENCE!

Great simulator. The art was really nice! Is it all based on center of mass? I couldn't get it to tilt up no matter what I did with my tail fin.... Best was 58.

nratcliff 2018-12-05 01:10

@wyattis it is based on center of mass, though you should be able to tilt up without a tail fin. Were you pressing D or the down arrow to lean back (and tilt up)?

wyattis 2018-12-05 01:19

I was, but I wasn't getting any additional height out of it. My center of mass must have always been too far forward... Cheers!

i like airplanes, so this is a perfect game for me. The gameplay is enjoyable and the physics are very good balanced. Good Work!

Great game, got to 218. Good choice of music and visuals.

I think a single wing design might be unbeatable btw. 800 meters.

Very nice game, but controls aren't the smoothest when building.

zgragselus 2018-12-08 23:33

The game is quite good, I like the idea of using physics in game (which you can see in my entry), and I enjoyed this one a lot.

Editing could be a bit better (rotating camera around, and snapping could be a bit more polished), but apart from that it is quite enjoyable. Making editing is quite an accomplishment within the Ludum Dare time frame!

Good job and keep up the good work!

Nice game, I would love to see this be carried on further with development, trying to add more parts and make other parts better/more usable. One issue I had however was the camera, as I could barely move and it made snapping parts together very laborious. Other than that great game and good luck!

kerdelos 2018-12-09 21:06

This looks like it could be a huge amount of fun but I wasn't able to move the camera at all (I'm on linux if that's any help) so it made everything quite difficult and I was only able to make really simple planes. I still enjoyed my time with the game so well done !

nratcliff 2018-12-09 21:21

@kerdelos ah heck, I think I forgot to mention in the build instructions: You'll need to hold Mouse 3 to rotate the camera. Hopefully that helps! If you still can't move it, let me know

Really entertaining and addictive. I had some trouble at the beginning to add multiple parts to my glider, mostly because I don't know what some of them do. It would have been nice to add short descriptions to the parts to prevent that, eg: "The X part allows you to reduce air resistance by X percent", you see where I'm going. But apart from that, I didn't know such a simple game wouls have so much replay value, I really liked that.

huf0001 2018-12-10 03:09

Cool take on the concept. Maybe an animation upon impact with the ground might have helped to make the game closer to the theme. Other than that, my only complaint is that it was sometimes a bit fiddly getting parts to click onto the connection nodes.

annagavaldakedavra 2018-12-10 08:46

Nice and fun game. A little hard to create the glider the way you'd wish but i like to mood.

sebastian-m 2018-12-10 22:46

Very interesting game, I love building stuff so this was rigth on my ally. I have some suggestions though.

First, the rotation of the camera was weird, I had to move the mouse across the screen multiple times to get to a side view. You could make it reflect more the movement of the mouse.

Second, I found the joints somewhat limited. I was thinking a glider that had left and rigth wings plus a single wing could work but I couldn't built it. Also I wasn't very clear how the extra joint worked.

And lastly, besides the cool link with the last words in the intro. The game itself do not reflect the theme, which is the idea.

But overall is a great and fun game. Great job!!!

smilewood 2018-12-11 05:16

This was quite fun to play around with, I really loved the grainy old look that you managed to pull off with it. I thought that the physics of the gliders was very well done, although I was able to stack many wings on top of each other and get better and better glides out of it. Your music was very well done and I thought that it fit into the theme very well. I liked the way that you tied this game into this LDs theme; while I wasn’t the one making sacrifices in the game it was connected to sacrifices that has been made in the past. Awesome submission, well done!

Ps. It would have been awesome to have a web build. You used Unity, so you should be able to just build for webGL and host it on itch.io along with your downloads

Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/MmJYQ_UA09A
