Guys, you're damn crazy. It has to be a lot of work for such small amount of time. At the beginnig I thought that it will be hard to understand rules of game like this but it actually wasn't any problem. I like the game but unfortunately it crashed in the end of first battle after sacrificing one of the group. So I haven't played whole game so far, but maybe I'll try it at least once again.

finn-truman 2018-12-04 11:34

@jac-b Omg thank you so much. There has been an overhanging feeling of anxiety from day 1 that this was too much with too little time, but to hear someone say they liked it has made me so incredibly happy

amigopadilha 2018-12-04 12:23

Awesome game, really nice to play. Had a good time evaluating it =)! Great job guys!

jdh 2018-12-04 13:06

Nice - I like the art. Sadly the bugs hit huge on me. First the barbarian buttons missing and then the next round the draw event crash just after clicking a barbarian ability.

kloscunha 2018-12-04 19:17

Nice, Darkest Dungeon-esque proposal here. I'd advise in using sans-serif, less curly fonts, as they're easier to read :)

sempiternal 2018-12-04 19:20

A really neat game overall but sadly I've encountered the same crash on the draw event

thedarkmagi 2018-12-04 19:56

this was good fun, it's a shame about the bugs, I experienced the draw event issue and a bug where the ranger couldn't attack the only enemy with there first ability, which I had done before in the run

The intro cut off before I could read the last sentence D: The game looks a bit weard with everything on top being a shade of brown, you could have made the characters stand out a bit with some brightness tweaking or small coloration. I can't really tell what the abilities do just form looking at them. Instead of coloring them based on the character, you could base the color on ability types (red for damage, green for health...). Also I have never played Darkest Dungeon so I had no idea what some statuses meant.

finn-truman 2018-12-04 22:30

@luka-roli We were torn between making the intro text last longer or shorter.

The brown filter is to make it look like it has a sepia tone so it looks like an old photograph, emphasising the fact its an old tale being retold. But I do acknowledge the characters kind of blend into the background.

The abilities have some descriptive text if you mouse over them.

These status effects don't appear in Darkest Dungeon, we made them. We couldn't make a tutorial because we ran out of time, so to compromise we made a txt file of game terms included with the file. Thank you for your criticism!

@amigopadilha @jdh @kloscunha @sempiternal @thedarkmagi Thank you guys for playing our game! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed what you managed to play of it :stuck_out_tongue: I'm so sorry that the game is as buggy as it is. We tried so hard to fix it but it's a stealth bug; we couldn't intentionally trigger it, so we couldn't find out what under what conditions it operates :frowning2:

luka-roli 2018-12-04 22:37

@finn-truman I didn't notice the txt file, that's a nice way around it. Good job on the game anyway, you managed to do a lot in this short time.

stellaryyan2 2018-12-05 10:20

A great game with Darkest Dungeon fight mechanism, although I can't finish my game because some bugs.

finn-truman 2018-12-05 11:01

@amigopadilha @jdh @kloscunha @sempiternal @thedarkmagi @stellaryyan2 I have fixed some bugs and uploaded a new version. Besides the bug fixes, no other changes have been made. I do not expect you to play the game a second time (I know we've all got a lot of games to get through!), but if you did want to try again, the option is there!

Found myself playing it for 20 minutes, which is very nice result for LD game. Congrats - very nice gameplay.

myrrhe 2018-12-05 21:31

A fun little game. The graphism are a bit simple, but they are coherent and explicit. I find the difficulty well balanced.

vivien-fargette 2018-12-05 22:18

Awesome game, the story is simple but efficient, the ennemies are various, the music is good and the sacrifices are hard to decide. Maybe an help with what will sacrificed characters will provide, especially around the archer as one of his ability need the reduce armor to be applied but can not apply it by himself.

Big big fan of your game :)

jevgeni-orehhov 2018-12-05 22:21

It maybe not the beautiful game out there but I love roguelikes. Cool game for 3 devs.

zgragselus 2018-12-09 00:35

Good game, I enjoyed it.

It did crash few times while playing it though (in 3rd battle) - couldn't really get past it.

Good job!

ted 2018-12-15 03:48

A demake of Darkest Dungeons in a weekend is not an easy task! Good job, and good choice. :)

bonelazy 2018-12-17 20:22

The Darkest Dungeon inspiration is definitely there. The graphics are nice, even though bottom panel UI could be better. The game itself is really fun but a bit slow. I played until sacrificing the 2nd hero but it was too long already so I had to shut it down. Got a bit repetitive at that point. Maybe the game could have been a bit shorter :)

The scope of the game is huge, and you have accomplished a great deal in such a short time. Very well done.

finn-truman 2018-12-18 09:18

@bonelazy Thank you for your feedback! I think we definitely took on too much with this project, we were still "making" it right up until the last day, there wasn't much time for polish. So the bottom panel does look a bit naff.

The game is certainly much longer than we were expecting. It felt faster for us because in the dev build we could just right click on people to kill them to skip fights so we could test later ones. That and we know the best synergies. So we never found out just how long it was XD

The designer wanted even more mechanics, if you can believe that. There was going to be an "imbue" mechanic where when a character dies their spirit could bless a living character and they would gain an ability that that spirit had when they were alive. That had to be scrapped.

We also wanted some exploration to break up the fights in between. The fights do overstay their welcome and some exploration would have helped, but of course, there was no time for that.

doey 2018-12-24 18:57

Enjoyed playing it! Fun mechanics and a style of game I really enjoy!
