While I think the overall concept has a lot of potential, it seems that the moving spike enemies are the only real threat. Once you disable shooting, you can jump over everything. The visual design works well, I like the minimal aesthetic. Also, I like the "waaah" damage sound, it actually made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it!
My biggest piece of advice would be to make the music calmer. the sounds were rather grating and in your face. the gameplay was nice and challenging, and the simplistic art was nice too! congrats on your first LD! I hope you keep up the work! You've definitely got a head start by making your first game at 14 years old, and I absolutely applaud you for it.
Also be open to criticism. Chances are I won't be the only comment to talk about the music. I'd check out any free sequencers you can find, I use LMMS. Though it took me a while to get used to making music, (and i'm still not where i want to be) I can see huge improvement from my first ludum dare games, and I'm looking forward to see what you have to bring to the table in upcoming game jams. Great luck with not only the jam, but any further game development you try!
That soundtrack sure is something, ahah ! The concept of the game is great, but it's hard to understand exactly how your sacrifices affect your ennemies. I was always just pressing buttons hoping to find a combinaison in which i could move and the ennemies couldn't. I'm not sure shooting was needed in the entire game, so there was no reason not to sacrifice it. Still, that was an interesting game to play ! The graphics are simple but effective, and the "waw" sound of the tutorial got me laughing. GG for this entry !
Clever idea, but found it a little confusing and a very difficult game!
omg this audio ! not that bad but stressful hehe Otherwise, things I would have change: - I, O, P keys for sacrifice should have been 1, 2 ,3 above WASD. - I did not understand the purpose of shooting (it didn't kill / destroy anything during my play) - Pressing "I" to sacrifice shooting and preventing em from moving was then too easy.
A bit of a self story, cause it could be yours: I've started coding games at 13 years old; It allowed me to be way ahead of 90% of the other guys in my engineering school. I'm a Software Project Leader (38 years old).
Keep practicing, try to learn new things regularly, and like @blobo said: > You’ve definitely got a head start by making your first game at 14 years old
Amazing game for being only 14! I had a tough time figuring out what to do. Seemed every time I sacrificed something I just got stuck. Managed to clear the tutorial without sacrificing anything then got stuck on the other levels.
Game has a lot of potential and I'd love to see what you do in the future!
I think that this game has potential. However, I found the gameplay pretty confusing and the control scheme was not very good in that it required you to have your hands all over the keyboard. I think it is decent for a first game.
This is a pretty solid game! I like the concept. As mentioned above, the moving enemies seem to be the biggest threat by a long shot. Making the levels more puzzle-like, requiring enemies to be moved instead of being jumped over, would add some depth to this game.
Not bad! I really like the concept of the game, though it could have been executed a lot more clearly, as I didn't understand why or when I was supposed to use it. I love the simplicity of the art style, and the music / sfx isn't too bad! Good work man, keep it up!
Great game idea! I'd love to do something like that. I just didn't really get the purpose of sacrificing your abilities other than making the shapes stop moving. For example, was there any point in shooting at all? Anyways, I'd really like to see more levels with more fleshed out mechanics. Great work!
Your concept is good and has potential, but I think your game needs balancing. Sacrificing "shoot" made the game way too easy.
Anyway, congratulations on making this game at 14yo! You are already ahead of most people your age, but don't be satisfied by that. Keep learning and keep making games! I'd like to see what you'll be capable of at 20 ;-)
Interesting attempt, but here is some recommendations for future stuff. Is it even possible to win without movement? I don't think so. Also feels strange that in the tutorial, this is the first thing you teach. Generally, when a tutorial suggests a control, the player will press that. Consequently, I got stuck on the tutorial level, which felt strange. Also, your 'home' button on the pause menu didn't work, so I had to restart the game instead. The sacrifice of movement and jumping also didn't seem to provide any benefits. Others are complaining about music but I don't hear any. Was it removed? If so, it now feels weird with only the 'wah' sound effect, but if you removed the sound, I'd imagine it was pretty painful... The menu could have used some extra love, and felt a bit empty. Maybe just a simple graphic, screenshot or piece of cover-art. Otherwise, the game was pretty neat, and certainly a solid feat! :thumbsup:

Even with the tutorial I didn't understand some basic things, like the fact that you can pressed you key again to gain your abilitie back, it's important in my opinion. Sometime I get lost between the key to know if I pressed them or not, to solve these 2 problems you could have the keys in the UI that indicate if they're pressed or not.
The triple-jump feature feels a bit weird, maybe only one but better calibrated jump could have been better.
Last thing,I think you shouldn't make a level were you can insta-die at the spawnpoint x)
As suggested before, I think the idea of the game would fit perfectly in a puzzle game, and you should maybe work in this way, because your idea is good !
Pretty neat implementation of the theme, however, I do feel it needed a bit of balancing. For example, I did not find myself requiring the shooting mechanic at all since the bullets did not really do anything, alongside the fact that there was no need to jump after sacrificing that ability. Also, triple jumping felt weird and a bit rigid, and there were times where I had to attempt jumping onto a platform multiple times simply because it was too high. But I don't blame for these small gameplay issues, there's always time for improvement, considering its your first LD. But other than that, this is a great submission, good job! p.s. The graphics were pretty cool
