Github is empty!

Pretty cool concept. I liked the map. The FPS mode was fun, but it didn't seem like there was much to do in the RTS mode. The zombie death animation was a little slow, which made it feel unresponsive when you killed them.

magicera 2018-04-26 07:20

@team-infernus Thanks for your feedback!Yeah currently in the RTS mode the player couldn't shoot only move. When I designed it I was thinking something like you can only move in RTS mode and only shoot in the FPS mode. Finally, I decided to give the player the chance of controlling multiple units so each unit could hold one position for defense.

magicera 2018-04-26 07:41

@cwookdev BTW, it's not empty now!

mintarcade 2018-04-26 09:56

Nice game, I only wish RTS unis will fire too. Other than that - very cool entry.

akanthaur 2018-04-26 10:24

Good game, it's hard to select each policeman. I think adding a key biding to select each policeman will be better to switch quicly :)

yahialds 2018-04-26 11:05

Great idea, I see you wanted to do more about the RTS part, and I think is kinda scalable. Some screens will help you get more players :)

annie-owl 2018-04-27 18:06

Nice idea. It's sad that you did not have enough time, to implement a proper RTS element though.

magicera 2018-04-28 07:26

@mintarcade At first I want to implement this function too but finally I found I couldn't make it in 72 hours.

magicera 2018-04-28 07:27

@Akanthaur Nice suggestion! I should add click-selection.

magicera 2018-04-28 07:29

@Annie Owl Now I'm thinking maybe I could make a tactical strategy game of combining two genres together.

magicera 2018-04-28 07:31

@Yahialds When I was doing this I thought I chose a wrong way to do because I think the scope is too much large. Maybe I should do a simple and compact design.

maymakegame 2018-05-13 02:11

This was extremely entertaining! I could have played it for hours! Thanks for playing my game!

ursagames 2018-05-13 04:59

I've seen a few games try to combine these genres and often fail, but this felt pretty fluid even if they RTS aspect was only useful to move your policemen away from danger. If you could setup defensive shooting in a cone in front of the policemen it'd be pretty engaging! There also didn't seem to be an end condition, adding in a survive X spawns would have worked well. Good job on getting the zombies to do some pathing though! I left a policeman up on a roof of a building and was surprised to see a zombie still got him.

yashpal 2018-05-13 06:05

**I liked it. **

It's nice concept & Level is greatly design

You can add different mechanics as @ursagames said like

1) Policemen shoots automatics to nearby zombies. so it's more like RTS placing unit is important.

2) Add checkpoints like you can clear some path by placing unit in RTS mode and than go to some part of map in FPS mode. (if FPS player die you need to send other Player to save him)

3) (This is just idea come to my mind) Similar to overwatch style match where 2 teams. first we need to setup defence in RTS style mode and then select one player to go other player base and capture the flag. etc. (there will be so many combination can happen like you do not need to setup defence you just need to select all players and send them to attack in RTS mode)(while you need more accuracy and fast movement you can select one character and control in FPS mode)

driedwatermelon 2018-05-13 07:49

Nice game. I played it like an FPS though since the only thing you can do in RTS mode is get killed.

furiouswitch 2018-05-13 09:16

Cool game! I moved all my police officers to one of the walls and then switched to fps and started picking the zombies one by one :)

Very good work you did there in a time so short and I applaud you for it.

I thought of another way you could blend these two genres which is to put some strategically-placed turrets and you move your characters there and then switch to FPS to use the turret. This way you will limit the FPS to the turret positions and the RTS everywhere else.

arche-san 2018-05-13 09:55

Nice concept and the execution is cool. I have some ideas to improve it: - Specific weapons for each policeman (sniper, sub-machine etc...) - An ability to switch directly between policemen in FPS mode (with a camera zoomin/out to preserve the RTS atmosphere) - It could useful to know where are the others policemen (with little arrows on the screen sides) + a state when a policeman is hit by a zombie or in danger. - More advantages to use the RTS mode: today you can move simultaneously multiple units. What if you can move them faster in RTS mode? Or perhaps you can heal one of them (with a cooldown for example?)

Anyway good job! :)

nico-h 2018-05-13 11:29

From this prototype you could build a really nice game! There were some annoying things: * The sound of the zombies (I think) is playing to often. Maybe add 2 or 3 more sounds and play them at random intervals. * I don't see a good use of the RTS Mode. You can move all the policemen but that's it. Maybe some things like buildings or factories (for example a barrack for more policemen) would make the game more interesting. * Single selecting a policeman is very hard, especially if you moved them all once to a position so they are almost at the same position. Just use the selection box only when the mouse is moved over a threshold. If not, select the entity under the cursor directly.

If you're interested, we also made a RTS FPS mix: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/placeholder-game Maybe you want to check it out. In our case, the game is completely first person and also lacks some RTS features but I'm interested about whats your opinion about our game.

viridiangames 2018-05-13 13:59

Oh, I was so disappointed when you couldn't shoot in RTS mode because that would have made the game like Syndicate, one of my favorites! So while the RTS mode wasn't really compelling or complete, the FPS mode pretty much made up for it - the shooting was good (hitscan shooting is always fun). If only you could have ordered your guys to attack in RTS mode!

glimaleite 2018-05-13 20:58

Hey! So, congrats for finishing the game. About the idea, I didn't feel the need of switching to RTS at any time. I just kept playing with the same character on FPS. The shooting can be easily improved with a small knockback on the gun and some muzzle.

chainedlupine 2018-05-13 21:46

I like the look of the art style! Too bad you weren't able to complete the RTS part of the game -- the FPS side works pretty good!

I'm sure you've got a lot of ideas on how to implement the RTS side, too. Giving the characters more to do when in RTS mode, instead of now where you can just use a single guy to mow down zombies.

patvanmackelberg 2018-05-14 00:45

Really cool! Loved the graphics!

prodigalson 2018-05-15 18:58

I like the concept. Would've like to been able to either rapidly switch to a unit to attack or have the units be smart enough to attack on their own (perhaps slower and takes longer but at least they wouldn't be sitting ducks). Otherwise, it can be a little too much to handle switching so much around and camera perspective just to attack an enemy. Looks like the path finding was fighting with itself making it hard for me to move all my units at once. If I tried this, all my units where pretty much dead. :( Still, I like the concept and think there's something fun here. If the RTS elements are more fleshed out and a faster more intuitive way to go into FPS modes is added, this can be really fun.

Perhaps a shortcut, like space bar, when a unit is being hurt to snap into FPS for that unit so that we can shoot quicker. Also, not sure if this was implemented or not but while in FPS allow to shoot different body parts to cause different amount of damages. Thus allowing the idea that while in RTS mode the units will auto attack the "body" which takes longer to kill but then I can switch to FPS and shoot the head for an instant kill. That might be fun and makes the game more interesting. Nice work

@ursagames @yashpal @furiouswitch @arche-san @nico-h @viridiangames @glimaleite @chainedlupine @prodigalson Guys thanks very much for all your brilliant feedback and suggestion, this is my first gamejam, I have learned a lot. I'm looking forward to make a new game based on this prototype, thanks again!
