Just tried it out! Congratulations on your first game! I made my first game on this JAM too! Some tips for your game, the acceleration of the player is a bit wonky, you slide a lot, maybe that was intended. It makes it quite hard to do much without getting hit. I love it that if you take the minigun you cannot complete the levels hahaa.
xD Thanks for the feedback, the sliding should only be annoying in the ice-level, in other levels it was not intended but some fine tuning might be needed xD I planned to add some spike shoes for the ice level so the sliding could be reduced with additional weight. Ohhh and that item-stealing monster would have been cool and add a tactical component, making the items more usable...
First of all congrats on your first game from me as well! This is game seems to be aimed at people a lot more skilled than I am. Wasn't able to beat a single level ^^ Mechanics are fine, just that the difference in weight could be a bit larger, and the basic jump could be a bit higher for my personal taste (and lack of skill). I'm a bit sad that picking the gatling gun is too greedy to complete any of the levels. :D One thing that threw me off for quite a while is the sliding mechanic in Level 2. I was expecting to always slide a bit, but when landing a jump without holding a movement key, the character stops immediately. Since I expected to continue sliding, I always pressed the opposite direction of the jump to slow down the slide after landing. But since the character did not slide by itself after the landing, I immediately walked off the platform that I just jumped on.
Soldier on! Also make sure to keep an eye on the Mini-LDs between the main events, they have pretty interesting themes and approaches sometimes as well!

Very hard without any items :) Yes, the minigun is awesome.
Add some more SFXs to the post-compo and it will get a lot better.
Tested in Firefox and it works great.

Not too bad as a concept and it's playable. I think that 1 HP as the default is very hard, though. There are just too many and too unpredictable enemies to get by with nothing. With regards to weapons the limited choices and 'autofire' are a bit detrimental. Also the hammer is worthless as you still get hit even with it pointed the right direction. The only choices are definitely die (no weapons) and likely die (with a weapon). Having a few more options (especially weight variance) and being able to choose when to attack would make it a lot less painful. If you wanted to extend it I'd say maybe make the minigun 50-60kg and offer several ammo capacities/ammo recharge rates that add extra weight.
@jnharton Thanks for this ellaborate feedback, you are absolutely right, I missed to add a good learning curve to the game and had no time in the end to balance the existing or add more useful items, or implement that item-stealing monster that would have made the items more useful as it kind of drops them for you. It was intended to be hard, but I think I overdid it a bit, especially in the first level - after playing it like a hundred times it felt really easy and I added too many too fast monsters to compensate it xD
I still like the concept, and might either improve the current game or create a new (probably side scroller) game with those item mechanics - that would be a great opportunity to try out Godot 3.0 xD
Nice job for your first Ludum Dare. Yes it's kinda hard but acceptable.

The game is pretty hard. The style is well, fitting to the eye. There seems to be an issue, when carrying all 3 items, it becomes the worst since the game can't be completed. Try working around those features to make them at least harder, but not impossible. peace
Very nice job :) ! i liked it even if it's very hard lol gg !

Not bad for a first game. The title screen could have used some sprucing up. Also, I died and restarted only to find my player missing :)
Could use some more polishing. But hey, it's your first Ludum Dare. Nice!

By the way, the game worked fine for me on Chrome. I don't see what the issue is. Maybe I get lucky :))

Oh boy it's hard - so hard xD
keep up the good work :)
Congrats on finishing your first game. Overall I think you managed to accomplish a lot in 48 hours so be happy with that. I played it on firefox and it worked flawlessly. I found the item chooses to be fun especially the minigun. The graphics matched that old time arcade feel. Gameplay wise it was defiantly challenging but manageable. The speed of the game seemed to by very high in my opinion but not bad at all. Overall good job.
Fun idea, controls are a little loose for my taste (at least on a game so difficult). Or maybe I am just frustrated dying 12 times without getting up the second latter. :(
Great game, kinda hard but hey still playable. I like the concept though, it is very interesting
Thanks you all for this great feedback, I just tried to finish it myself and recorded it... After 15 minutes I died at the last jump in the last level, the video of my fail is currently encoding xD
I agree that the controls could need some more fine-tuning and the items definitely would have needed more balancing... Unfortunately the time ran out - but there will be more from me in the future, it's quite satisfying to make a game from the ground :)
fun and challenging! Could use some polish, the game over screen goes on top of the game screen so its hard to see and cluttered a little
