I like the idea! Reminded me of The Void game. Could be a good story-driven game.

Spooky vibes! Well done

Indeed, I enjoyed simply wandering around the structure! I was quite confused though when I came to a dead end, lit three lamps, and was then unable to walk (then thinking that pressing R might save me). Looking back at the game page, I see this was intentional though. If that sense of permanently running out of a finite resource was communicated in-game (quite a challenge!), then that certainly would add to the atmosphere of exploring a dead/dying structure.

I felt like this had a lot of potential had you had more time to finish it. It captures the slowly fading away feel surprising well considering it didn't have audio to back it up. For what it is, it does a god job and I would have loved to see it in a more complete state.

Thanks for the feedback!

@austinspafford There is some effects (slowing of the heartbeat, the light source fading, less sparkles on the core) that show up once your power drops past 1/3, but I definitely did intend to add more clues. There are monitors around the place where you would have been able to check your charge, but I wasn't able to implement them in time.

I really like the game mechanic and atmosphere. Good starting point to many possible endings. Congrats!

This could be a great story driven game if only you had a voice guiding the player through this dark space like the voice in portal 2.

yetman 2017-08-05 21:11

The environment is great, this my favorite type of environmental design. I totally like the atmosphere and the uncanny structures. My only complaint is that I wanted a target to do but it was still great overall. I think some ambient sounds would greatly enhance the atmosphere.

I'd love to see this expanded out into something a bit more complete. The atmosphere was really good and would be helped by a bit of sound. If there was some way to know how much power you had left, as well as ways to recharge, the completed thing would have lots of promise!

I don't really think it is a game currently, but it could make for a very good one, some day.

josehzz 2017-08-17 19:17

The mood would be alot better with some background music/sound, but nice work with the lights.

galaxstudios 2017-08-19 09:16

Spooky vibes and overall a good game but id love to see some music and the game to expand outwards to become an actual game. It's not really a game at this point. It's confusing at first as well and the ways to recharge/know how much energy you have is hard to know at first. Good job for 48hrs though. Keep it up!

jemsmith 2017-08-19 11:27

I like that despite not having audio, you managed to create quite a compelling mood and environment by using harsh lights and shadows. The distant shapes of those curvy "statue" things was quite spooky, especially when they cast huge looming shadows down the corridor. I didn't really know what to do, or understand the theme mechanics, but it was certainly an interesting environment to explore nevertheless.

sleepystudios 2017-08-19 12:03

Really good atmosphere. I found myself exploring for quite a while despite not knowing what to do because the environment was very compelling to explore. Nice job.

svr-audio 2017-08-19 13:19

Best atmosphere of a compo game so far, great job, it might have been very hard to do that within the time limit, impressive, congratulations !

mintarcade 2017-08-19 14:40

Nice atmosphere, good work with lights and shadows. Like with any jam games lack of time really puts limit on how many features you can implement. Well done.

dekhey 2017-08-19 16:21

I have to say it could be a really interesting game if completed. For now i can't i say i have fun by playing it(it is incompleted like you said), but if you continue developing this game it could evolve into an interesting game to play

rockhoppergames 2017-08-20 12:09

Thanks everyone for the feedback, and for getting me past the 20 votes mark!

@sixteen and @galaxstudios There being no way to recharge was fundamental to what I wanted to do with this game, by making sure that the player would die. I had intended to make screens that would display your charge percentage though, but didn't get around to it in time.

@jemsmith Don't worry about not understanding what to do, the only purpose was to explore as your energy slowly runs down. Trying to find meaning from that is part of the game too!

jondalnas 2017-08-20 14:09

I fell down from a ledge and I couldn't get up or find anything to do. The game has nice graphics and is very atmospheric, though I didn't get what I was supposed to do.

manumeq 2017-08-21 12:05

Could make for a super cool story driven / walking simulator game. I liked the parkour and the idea of choosing on what to expend power in order to be able to explore in the light. Cool work!

local-minimum 2017-08-21 18:03

I liked the graphics, the 3D assets and how clear the minimal UI assisted. It was kind of dark though, perhaps my screen having low contrast on. That made it really hard to see anything in the dark places and eventually I felt a bit too lost. It would have been nice with a bit of assistance in orienting. Either from tweakable light settings; some mapping or pings to navigate after; or some trail that showed where I've been. I get that you had limited time this time around, and with that I think the feeling and the detail put into the minimal UI was really nice.
