I really like the adherence to the cardboard theme when it comes to graphics. One thing that was a bit unclear / frustrating was the random hit chance and how the weapons differed from each other.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD38 → Giant Robots

@aggrathon Yeah, thought about putting in some stats, but ran short on time. And I really wanted to put in some strategy, with being able to target specific weapons vs body... but ya know, time. ;)
@manax, cool game. Love the unique take on the theme. Once I understood what was happening the game was much more fun. Could be a cool phone game if you add more UI and maybe weapon tips. Cheers
I enjoyed the world and theme that you put together here.
It was fun to pick out which weapons to upgrade, although I couldn't tell if there was any tactical choices to be made. It didn't seem like any particular weapons were better against specific enemies or enemy loadouts.
I've not played many turned based games but this reminded me a little of South Park Stick of Truth. I think it would be cool to implement a few skill based mechanics, such as releasing a rocket at optimum angle or timing for increases damage or accuracy. At the moment it just feels that you have to rely on luck - but I guess that's due to time constraints as you mentioned in previous comment. :)
I really liked the "kids playing with cardboard" setting, and the upgrade system was a welcome addition.
Did you use Caustic for the sound effects? I've used it mostly for music in other games, but in this case I like how the shot and explosion effects turned out, way better than some of the samples we tend to generate with simpler tools -I admit I'm a bit guilty of this!.
You're already aware of it so I won't add much, but I'll second the other comments regarding more specific information about each type of robot or what the upgrades would do. It might add more depth to the combat.
Nice idea, with potential! :)
@ithildin in ld37 I used Caustic for the music. I did have a little music for this (also written using Caustic), but didn't get it finished enough to include this time. The sound effects were done with bfxr. I don't love the sounds it produces, but it's helpful here. ;)
I loved the aesthetics. I think you guys could continue to develop it. Congratulations!!
The artstyle is awesome! The gameplay is very simple but fun. I think there should be a tutorial added in the beginning but otherwise I really enjoyed your game!
Adorable concept, and very fitting artstyle. The gameplay was a little confusing to me, i wasn't quite sure how my choices were affecting the combat, there seem to be some systems in the background that i would've appreciated being explicit, like showing stats for each weapon's number of shots and their accuracy, that sort of thing. Nice work!
This was hilarious.
Love the concept! Nailed it with the graphics too. Not much to the gameplay but it was fun to explore the different weapon options. The weapon menu was a little confusing at first, supporting up/down arrow keys would help there. Still nice work! :D
Nice! I really enjoyed the visual aesthetic of the game. Right now there isn't too much gameplay, and the gameplay that exists is somewhat confusing (what is the probability that your shots miss? what do the different guns do? does it ever end? etc.), but if you added more I could see this being really fun.
Nice style! :-) The mechanics are pretty simple and I miss information of the upgrades. So it is more trial and error.
I expected the weapon selection to be different, with up and down too, not only right and left.
It is a charming idea of the setting.
If I had two of the same weapons, I'd get no benefit because I'm still choosing to fire with one, so it's all the same. Or maybe the chance to hit changes if you have more of them? I don't know.
I usually like games like this - where you have to choose between a few options each turn and see the "choice sequence consequence". :)
Cardboard style graphics is a cool touch.
Not completely finished, but still, well done!
I really like the idea/setting of this game. The graphics was nice, but it was a little bit too diffuse selection effect so that I didn't really see it in robot selection and it took me forever to realize that I could swap weapons. I never really understood how shooting worked either. If it was chance or some timing. So better feedback in game on that would have been great.
