I like the characters! Not a bad idea, although it didn't feel like the map was shifting. Having said that, it would be pretty hard to animate something like that within the time limit. Great effort on your first LD!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD35 → The Pollos

It's really cool for yout first LD! I like the idea!
Well done!
I liked the overall idea behind the game, but I couldn't move my mouse all the way around, and the music was unfortunately very rough. I know it was probably patched together, and it was okay at the start, but it just looping incessantly drove me mad. It was a good start though! I would play more if given the chance!
I didn't really realize that shifts were happening, I just thought it was loading new levels. Maybe find a way to make the change more clear. Very cool art style.
I liked the graphics and the music a lot. It was pretty easy to get lost, and my cursor didn't lock so it would run up to the edges of my screen and stop me from turning any further. Good entry though
Thanks for the kind words guys :)
Honestly the whole 'change the desert' thing is mostly a joke...it is actually just dropping you in new sections of the desert maze.
At first I intended to have the chickens (pollos) hide as random desert objects then attack when you got close they transform and attack.
Time ran short however and as I was frantically trying to toss it into at least 'something' I put the little quotes around the "shift" text as kind of a tongue in cheek joke about not having any real shape shifting to speak of.
The web version is junk for sure with the mouse-look issues...the DL version has none of that nonsense but at least there is a web version to speak of lol.
Thanks for playing guys!
Nice graphics! I like the landscape and characters.
I like the way the characters are little crayon drawings, it had a Psychonauts feel. The only thing that comes to mind is how the music doesn't quite fit with what you're doing, wandering around and getting lost in the maze like desert. I saw the idea of a chicken going in for an attack, that would be cool to see!
Interesting art style. Reminded me a lot of Psychonauts which was great. Good job!
I like the trippy sky visuals!
Great idea and take on the theme. Try going here to embed your itch.io link into Ludumare. https://itch.io/game/upload-embed/63293
Rough, quirky and cute graphics style, love it. I got seriously lost in the desert and didn't do much...
Nice job for a first Jam.
I didn't get the goal and feel a bit lost in this maze, but your not the only one with unfinished game. ^^
Graphisms are nice. ;)
The basic idea is good but it was a bit hard to play. :c
I can't imagine the graphics weren't deliberately chosen to offer this psychedelic experience, so I hope it's safe to complain a bit about that.
The main problem, I think, was that the sky was both not moving with the level while also being animated on its own. I actually got a pretty intense headache after a while and felt a bit nauseous, and I've never actually experienced that with a game before.
So sorry, but I had to stop playing, because it made me feel physically unwell. I think that's a pity, because it would've been so easy to avoid (considering I've never had this with any game before) by deciding against this trippy art style.
So I would *not* recommend full screen to other players, actually (the cursor actually kept getting out of sync anyway). :p
Nonetheless, you did get your first jam done and I hope you will come back next time. Take everything I've said as constructive criticism. I'll be happy to play your next game if you take it easier on the graphics next time. c;
@Avant-Marde Oh man, I'm sorry you got sick. Note to self...don't include that effect in bigger projects lol.
To be fair you are the one who got me excited about ludum dare in the first place haha.
I just feel bad that my form of repayment for leading me into participating was a migraine...I can't shake this visual in my head of you deciding to take my game for a spin then falling into a space odyssey warp nightmare.
Also I wouldn't recommend fullscreen either on the web version...in fact I wouldn't recommend the web version at all lol.
Haha, it's fine. That was actually interesting in itself. You did, after all, manage to make a game that gave me an experience that I have never had with one before. If that's not innovation, then I don't know what! ;p
I'm glad to hear I managed to inspire someone to get into this. I hope my last comment didn't uninspire you again!
The character art was an interesting thing, I liked them. The music wasn't bad, but could get annoying very quickly and it took me a bit o figure out how to get to the next desert transformation. The graphics in all I felt actually made the game feel kinda surreal and I felt really did suit the game. I liked the game it was an interesting play.
Liked the drawn scribbled design, gave the world a really trippy feeling but did seem to fall through one of the holes and into another trippy world which I couldn't control my movement in anymore. Congrats on finishing your first jam.
The way i looked bugged out on the web player
This was rather weird :D
I liked the psychedelic vibe and the terrain madness but I think it actually lacked a way to know where you're actually supposed to go. I've finished the game just by roaming basically.
The colour use and how the different stones, trees etc. are laid out was really cool.
Music got a bit obnoxious after a while.
Anyway, an interesting game!
