Unless everything you breed is supposed to result in lettuce seeds, then no, it doesn't work on a Mac. xD I'm running OSX 10.7.4. Many things were also done growing after one turn.

crowbeak 2012-08-27 05:53

Well, I should say that the only definite problem I noticed was everything coming up lettuce seeds. I even tried breeding two tomatoes together and got lettuce.

my-milked-eek 2012-08-27 05:55

Huh, that's odd. I'm 100% sure it takes the species from one of the parents. I'll try looking into that.

my-milked-eek 2012-08-27 05:55

Thanks for playing though!

thurig 2012-08-27 17:43

The download for os/x does not work.

benjamin-soule 2012-08-27 17:45

Well I tried to play but it was difficult to handle. I could achieve to plants seed and buy them but I was unable to sell the crop to gain my cash back. The music give a very peaceful mood to your game, I like it :)

josefnpat 2012-08-27 17:52

Nifty game. Learning the keys was difficult at first, but got better.

When you try and sell, and your inventory is empty, it crashes. Full log here: http://hastebin.com/raw/raraberiti

I was never able to get to level 100 though. That seems a little extreme, esp because of the inventory limit and the lack of stacking.

Audio was great. Nice game in general though it would have been nice to have a GUI but thats just nit picking.

markavian 2012-08-27 18:14

I got a bit lost in the menus. I wonder if you could have done all of the buy/sell/breed/garden on one screen, and then it would have just been a case of moving through the turns. It would have been nice to see plants grow larger from seed over a couple of turns, and maybe have a click interface to see what the properties of plants were.

But... yeah, its a really neat idea for a game, just wasn't keen on the menus.

kevincorrigan 2012-08-27 19:54

All I could get was tomatoes and broccoli, but It was fun and fit well with the theme.

seconddimension 2012-08-27 20:59

I did get a bit confused by how it all worked with the menus and so on, but it fits the theme really well, and is definitely an interesting idea. Like the guitar playing too.

raohmaru 2012-08-27 21:18

Hard to learn, but very addictive at least!
I like the keyboard interface, reminds me of the old days.

dvdking 2012-08-27 21:36

Don't know why, but it reminds me dwarf fortress.

my-milked-eek 2012-08-28 07:25

Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. Yeah, in hindsight, the menus probably are a bit overkill, I could have made the inventory on the main gamescreen and pushed in the marketplace as well I think.

I'll check out to see if the breeding algorithm has an error in it or where it resides.

@josefnpat: thanks for the log, I'll look into it tonight.

@mac users, sorry, I thought I had a way to test it on a mac, but I don't, I'll remove the osx link.

Once again, thanks!

crowbeak 2012-08-28 07:59

Well, since you didn't get a chance to test it on Mac, I assume the reason the breeding wasn't working for me is 'cause I was trying it on a Mac. xD Thanks for trying to upload a Mac binary anyway.

my-milked-eek 2012-08-28 08:09

Well, I thought there was a Mac at work, but it's gone since a week or two, so no testing :(

zoomyzoom 2012-08-28 12:19

Lot of lettuce :(

whilefun 2012-08-29 01:08

Lovely music :) I liked the concept of the game. But I found it really easy to just buy/plant/sell and get rich. After a few turns, I had more money than I could spend.

raptor85 2012-09-03 00:45

the controls were extremly confusing and hard to use, the text and graphics being nearily identical for the crops vs the seeds didn't really help either. The idea is good it's just really hard to play.

caranha 2012-09-04 21:37

I really liked the song (it was working for linux!). The game works for me. I think it is a bit hard to try and "drive" the evolution - the uniform crossover you are using tends to make genes homogeneous a bit too fast: what is the rule you are using when two gene strings are of different lengths?

One thing that would greatly help the game is some balancing to make it possible to "lose" the game. Right now the only difference is how fast you make money.

Also, 100 turns might be a tad too long.

Cheers!

The UI was a kinda clunky and frustrating.
