Well, it did work perfectly here. But with the dozens of wireless connexions around, I'm totally not alone. The sounds were all made during this weekend? They were impressive if so!
Giving you good score for sound that's for sure!
If the game doesn't run at all, or forces you to quit for not having your wireless card turned on.
didnt play for me. I'll skip vote, but fix! or at least provide a youtube of gameplay, so we can see how it plays what it is
oh, p.s. I don't have a laptop and I don't have wireless on my desktop. win 7 64 bit
I got this running after replacing msvcr100.dll with my own. Is there some kind of possible input to this game? I only get some kind of animation with sound that seem to depend on the current wireless networks found in the vicinity.
Oh wow, sorry folks, didn't see the comments at first.
As for the not working: yeah, I'm getting that a lot. I have a feeling the version of MSVCR100.dll I included isn't really all that general-purpose; nor is the WiFi code I stole (I included the URL!) to list the wireless SSIDs.
I can only assure you that I'm working on a fix. Networking is not my strong point, so I hope you'll be patient.
iFred_QC: The sounds were mostly taken from freesound.org. If you check in the credits.txt file, I list the attributions for most. The news[1-4].ogg files are mixes of two sound files each, with news4.ogg including my own sexy, sexy radio voice.
Per: Thanks for the info about the .dll, I'll see if I can find the proper one to distribute with the game! Or I can just link to the distributable. Also: You're seeing the game exactly as it should be. There's no input via the mouse and keyboard, per se...
So not have wireless, but sounds like a innovative idea!
I'm playing on a WinXP laptop, and the game says my wireless is disabled and quits. I thought this might be because I'm using an Intel driver, so I tried switching to the regular Windows one, but nope. Too bad, this sounded interesting :-/
Taking sounds from websites isn't allowed by 48 Hour Compo rules...
This is a cool idea, but there's WiFi available more or less everywhere in my house (though irritatingly, my wifi isn't available everywhere in my house...), so I couldn't really play it properly. It would have been neat to allow the user to cheat by turning off their WiFi, since it lets people play around with it without having to go out of their way to much.
@Mjiig As a matter of fact, the intent was to actually make people take their laptops outdoors and sort of...wander the city in search of an oasis (ha!) of zero-wifi availability. Not entirely practical, of course...I felt a bit odd wandering around Montreal at night with my laptop out looking for spots...
Anyway, that's why there's actual code to check if someone has turned off their wireless adapter (although the code unfortunately gives false positives on some systems): it forces people to actually go outside.
Doesn't work on windows vista 32bit: Not designed for Windows or error... :(
The sounds were nice... couldn't play though :(
It died on me for not having wifi :(
Also I thought the name meant something totally different when I saw the screenshot.
Its a shame I can't run this, fault of no windows... Shame I'm not allowed to rate unrunnable entries - this one had one of the best concepts!
It crashed Win7 soo badly I will never ever run anything from you!
