Apr 8 15:47:40 Hell R Us ♥ 1 It's a classic Captain Dreamcast game! The cutscenes got some good laughs out of me, though I think the audio levels need a bit of balancing. I don't know how audio works on the dreamcast, but if it's possible to make the music a bit quieter as your voice lines are playing, I think that should be done. This one was very similar to David vs Goliath: What the government doesn't want you to know, in the sense that it was a bullet-hell boss fight arena. I think the combat in this game would be a bit more interesting if the enemies immediately started throwing projectiles when the fight begins. You learn their attack pattern from a safe distance, then once they stop, you go in for the slashing. It's a subtle detail, but I love how the game opens with you spinning as you fall, then landing at a funny angle. A stellar opening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j963WrMTG_A
Apr 8 19:50:51 4h 03m Fathom Pond ♥ 3 In this episode, 100th_Coin reveals how bad he is at text based adventures. First of all, the writing is delightful. I love the way you describe the scenes, and details fill this game with so much charm. The biggest issue I had with the puzzles was simply a lack of information. With a game like this, where half the time I try to do something like "Use hook on ring" I see "Use is not a verb I'm familiar with" and get discouraged. How could I possibly know what my options are? When I typed "rotate statue" my expectations are "rotate is not a verb I'm familiar with", yet it was the solution. I'll admit, it's a genre I don't have much experience with, but text based adventures seem to be riddled with "verbs" that you just need to somehow know you are able to do. I asked you on discord about placing something on the altar, for "place is not a verb..." only to learn I had to use the word "put". The issue is that there's so many situations like that. You just need to know that you have to use the word "put", or that "rotate" is an option. It feels all the more confusing when "use" isn't something I can do. You don't "use key on door" you "open door with key". I think that's an issue of the engine more-so than your own design. I can only imagine watching this will be painful, but here's an hour and a half of me stubbing my toe in every room and getting frustrated at my own lack of information, due to the aforementioned "you don't phrase it like this, you phrase it like that" knowledge that I couldn't have had going into this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4SvqeiDtVQ
Apr 8 20:13:03 22m 12s Apnea ♥ 1 Quite a fascinating entry. Unfortunately my microphone filter settings didn't pick up my deep breaths, but I made it past the 70 meters stage. I could probably go further, but it would likely result in a massive headache, so for my own health I chose not to. Certainly top points for innovation... it's such an interesting idea to rely on the player actually holding their breath. I kinda wish the game was more than just a "hold breath for x seconds simulator". It would be cool if you actually had to explore while underwater. Here's my recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IChpx1DXfsc
Apr 8 20:31:42 18m 39s id: ♥ 1 Like many of your LD entries that are "more of an experiment than a game" I never know if I'm doing things right, and I feel a bit lost. The 3d opening cinematic was pretty cool, but I don't know if there was actually any "thing" to find by switching channels. The writing is cryptic, which leads me to believe there is in-fact a puzzle to solve, but I'm missing the required information. It's still pretty neat seeing multiple game windows, and interacting with one of them by pressing buttons in another. I just wish the objective, if any, was explained better. Here's my playthrough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMwPCn3Zr0Y
Apr 8 20:49:39 17m 57s Nine Lives Deep ♥ 4 Absolutely delightful. The story telling is so positive, I couldn't help but have a huge smile while playing. The artwork is fantastic, and I especially like the boat scene. My words fail to accurately describe my thoughts, so I'll let the video commentary do the heavy lifting. Great work all around! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrKxRyOnCso
Apr 8 21:19:49 30m 10s Pack ♥ 1 You've done it again. There's an incredible amount of polish in all of your games that always leaves me with a sense of awe. The parody names for the games were such a delight ("Rush Universe in the martian Hospital" completely floored me.), the artwork for every object looks fantastic, and I absolutely LOVE the dust particles when opening and closing stuff. Man, it's so good. The music is very relaxing and it doesn't feel repetitive, which is nice during the final level. I was stuck there for longer than I thought I would be, but never felt frustrated or annoyed. Great work all around. Here's the video of me playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXW8QmI9Zi0
Apr 25 16:55:21 403h 35m Cast Iron Hammer Golf ♥ 0 Oh man that wind. I kept forgetting it existed and then WHAM! I piece missed my target by 4 or 5 whole units. The wind is a perfect addition to the game, by the way. Love it. I don't know exactly how to feel about the lives mechanic. Like- yeah, being able to lose is important for a game like this, but man- I got really close in two runs, only to lose to something that I think is a bit... unfair? Getting 5 in a row clears a line, right? And I've had situations where I clear the gold one by having a vertical line go beyond the bounds of the board. Then I lost my last run of the recording by getting 5 in a row, but beyond the bounds, and I lost. It felt like the rules were a bit inconsistent there... I don't know. Going back to hole 1 after that feels punishing, but without lives there's no penalty for failure... I'm not sure what to do about that. Anyway, I recorded my runs to give as much feedback as possible! Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPN5gBCQZG0
Apr 25 17:31:50 36m 29s Captain Peggles: That Man's Chest ♥ 4 Absolutely phenomenal. Very rarely do I find LD games that completely sweep me off my feet. I would play this for several more hours, but I have a few more games I'd like to rate today. (I will probably play more of this later tonight, ha!) I started challenging myself by memorizing the other player's map while standing at the boat and seeing if I could get all 3 without checking the map again. So much fun. So so so much fun. I recorded myself playing to provide as much feedback as possible, but man I have so few notes. You all absolutely know what you are doing, and my video will simply just be me having fun for 22 minutes. Cheers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbBYWJxqdjE
Apr 25 18:23:41 51m 51s To the Depths of the Galaxy ♥ 1 It took me a while to learn the patterns (and some of them I just gave up on learning) but I scored over 50K, and that's about as much as I think I can get. I don't play a lot of bullet hells, so I can't really give the best feedback, but I did record myself playing. (I also had a lot bitrate by mistake, so I hope the video isn't entirely ruined because of that...) I honestly have no idea if that boss can be beaten without dying, but I was able to cheese it by just going around, ha! I don't know if that was intended. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xPN8mpyCCE
Apr 25 18:54:31 30m 50s Oasis Dawn ♥ 1 Those projectile shooting dudes are my bane. I don't think I ever beat day 4 wave 1, ha! In any case, I love the 3D models of everything here! The player animations are great, and the big dudes with swords have absolutely perfect indication when they are bout to attack! I just can't figure out what I was doing wrong with the projectile guys. My recording is a bit sloppy, as it was in untrawide cropped to 4:3, so the healthbar is missing in the video (definitely intentional on my part to add suspense.) Anyway, here's the video. I hope it provides some good feedback! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtx9eNGOAO4
Apr 25 19:43:38 49m 07s Dwarvenshaft ♥ 1 You made an acapella track!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/10 So it took me forever to figure out that the guy needed to not be on auto in order to drill downwards. Other than that, I had a great time! Here's my video to provide more feedback! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy0bQOALFus
Apr 25 20:38:33 54m 55s Deep Fry ♥ 2 Okay wow. The moment I had to use the timer as an ingredient I fell in love with the absolute insanity of this game. There are so many details that it's incredible. Everything wiggles a bit when the mouse hovers over it! The text, the buttons, it's delightful. The silhouettes of characters walking down the street. And oh my gosh, the character designs are amazing. I think my favorite is the guy who owns the street. Ah- and I love the logic puzzles of figuring out what to combine with what to make the wacky recipe the customer is ordering. My recording ended abruptly by accident, so It's a two-part video (my bad!), but I recorded myself playing to give extra feedback. This is easily one of my favorite games of the jam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy7m1LaVTE4 And again, whoops! It's two videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP3R_pJT4Z4
