| Apr 11 21:00:05 | Procrastination Simulator | ♥ 2 | Really nice take on the theme and I like the devil on the shoulder concept. Very original! I really enjoy simple games like this and got pretty addicted since couldn't fail hard enough :( (lowest score was a D-) Nice variation and scaling in the difficulty too as the timer counts down. Feels balanced in that it isn't too hard to play but seems tricky to get the coveted F! The way the devil's face also followed the character as well as the trident was a nice touch making the game feel more dynamic. Similarly, the particle effects were cool especially with the way they can be pushed around/explode in reaction to how they are hit. I would say that I found the score at the top quite difficult to see/read. The pixel font went nicely with the graphics but was hard to read on top of the pixel art especially at a glance whilst playing. Maybe just a solid underlay for that part might have been nice. Great job overall on the graphics though considering neither of you were supposed to be the artist! The music fits nicely with the theme making it feel urgent and sound effects are always nice feedback. The pitch variation made it more dynamic and not annoying although I agree with @aquata in that different sounds for the books and controllers would have been nice since that would also give audio feedback on how well you're doing. If there wasn't time to make/source different sounds, you could maybe have done something like have the book sound effect pitch range be lower and the controllers be higher so you can use the same effect. Overall, great job making a pretty nicely polished and complete game with two people! Had a lot of fun playing! | |
| Apr 11 21:13:17 | 13m 12s | Until the end | ♥ 1 | Like the comments above, very smooth game and well put together! I'm terrible at platformers so didn't do too well but the lil dude was adorable and it's sad that he had to die... Most of the graphics were really nice and I love the subtle touch of the grass leaving marks where it's shot. Really makes the world more dynamic and is nice feedback from your actions. However, I think the enemies do let you down a bit since they're probably most of what the enemy is focusing on but feels a little like you left a placeholder in there. I think a simple particle effect on their death would have jazzed it up a bit and made them a little more interesting although I get that you probably just didn't have time! Overall, great game and really well put together with all the different components! |
| Apr 11 21:23:47 | 10m 30s | CounterSplit | ♥ 2 | Incredibly well put together and polished game especially for a compo entry! Original take on the theme that isn't too in your face but fits very well. I got 19 on every single try and it was infuriating! But made we want to keep playing! The colour scheme made for a clean looking game although I maybe would have liked it if the whole circle changed colour rather than just the test so it's easier to see in your peripheral although I don't know if maybe that would look too messy in practice. The way the circles split and drift around is also incredibly smooth especially on the opening screen that just seamlessly flows into gameplay. The sound makes fits with the theme too giving it that countdown feel and contrasts with the frantic slicing. I don't feel like I missed having music here either due to the the beat of the numbers. Overall, a very simple but incredibly well executed game! Well done! |
| Apr 11 21:49:12 | 25m 25s | Ice Ace | ♥ 2 | Well that was adorable and epic! Concept is original and a funny take on saving the world. The gameplay mechanics are nicely executed and put together with a good difficulty increase as time goes on. Just as you get used to it, it mixes thing up! The only thing with the gameplay that felt a bit odd to me was that, after you clicked to hit the cube, the cube would fly in the direction of where your mouse pointed at firing rather than the direction when you hit it. It ddi make it slightly easier later when things were moving since you could correct yourself but it was a little strange since I would move my mouse somewhere else after clicking to line up my next shot and the previous hit wouldn't go where I wanted! (That's me just being suuuper nitpicky for a jam game) The game looks great with nice little effects and the style was amazing. The split screen meant you could really appreciate the effort put into the graphics. The way she stops to see watch the cube go is real cute and the trail it leaves behind is very satisfying! The music was suitably intense for an epic mission and the sound effects made the game more responsive which was nice. I would maybe suggest adding a little pitch variation to the hit sound to make the game a little more dynamic. Overall, a really great game that is very nicley polished and put together. Looks amazing with a great atmposphere. Well done! |
| Apr 13 16:15:23 | 42h 26m | Possum Blitz | ♥ 1 | Nice atmoshpere and cute graphics with complimentary sound. Pretty chill game although maybe I would have liked the difficulty to scale just a tad quicker since restarting could be a little slow. Well put together and polished though with stats which I always loves since it makes a simple game replayable and appeals to thoise hi-score kinda people! Like someone else mentioned, it might be nice to have cars coming from both sides since you can just stick to the left of the screen and it renders moving left and right almost pointless. Amazing compo entry though and functions perfectly! |
| Apr 13 16:23:01 | 7m 38s | Box Blocks | ♥ 2 | Cute game with nice complimentary sound effects. It wasn't immediately obvious what to do and I just kept throwing boxes in the lava until I got stars although the boxes didn't seem to slow it any more than it already was. I also didn't understand the refresh button until reading comments! Playing again after reading the comments was nice with having to balance using boxes and trying to get the stars. However, it might have been nice to maybe increase the speed of the lava when not touching a box to make the mechanic more obvious. Overall, really well put together and functions well so great job in the time frame! |
| Apr 13 16:35:28 | 12m 27s | Pengu Peril | ♥ 2 | Horrendously stressful and incredibly upsetting. I just wanted my adorable little penguin to live :( Really loved the way the music was dynamic in response to the patch of ice you were on and really was stress inducing despite sounding so damn cute. Fit with the graphics well and the sounds effects were cute too giving the player good feedback. The only thing I maybe would have liked to see would be either some kind of (very faint) grid or some kind of indicator as to which block is to be picked up since it could be quite hard to tell which square you're standing on. A lot of the time when I wanted to pick up edge blocks, I'd end up overshooting and not be able to pickl it up since I was standing on it! That's just me being suuper nitpicky though! Overall, incredibly well put together, very smooth and fit the theme brilliantly. The whole atmosphere was fab so great entry and well done! |
| Apr 14 17:01:09 | 24h 25m | Bathroom in the Backrooms | ♥ 1 | Wow, I could not find it for the life of me xD Was a really cool take on the theme and orginal. I liked the background hum too. I agree with some previous comments that the controls could be made a little more friendly but I also guess that's part of the idea! Maybe just having the option of using arrow keys to move or another hold it in option as well may make it more user friendly. Overall, well put together and functions well with a great sense of humour! |
| Apr 14 17:32:16 | 31m 07s | Dawn of the Karen | ♥ 2 | The most satisfying game I've played all jam! What could be better than herding Karens and firing a spray of Norf bullets into the crowd? The gameplay is smooth with simple controls and difficulty scales well. I like the upgrades idea since it meant you could try out different strategies each time and balance saving up against getting through the next level. I would have liked to maybe see a shot cooldown so it would be easier to maximise efficiency. The graphics are awesome and have nice variations in the colour of the Karens etc. Contrasts well with the backing making them nice and easy to see. I also like how the bullets actually stick on them for a bit so you can tell who it is you've hit. The phrases had me dying! The deadpan voice and creative announcements really made one hell of a wonderful company culture. I especially love the one about being a family which is what so many toxic workplaces call themselves haha. The sound effects were simple and effective giving good feedback to the player on actions. A little variation in pitch for hit/firing sounds would have been a nice little spice up. One suuuper nitpicky point would be that you can't mute/unmute after the start menu. I accidentally muted before my first run (didn't realise due to the lack of sound in the start menu) and had to refreh the page to play my second run with sound. But that's just a really tiny thing and most games don't even have a mute option so great that you do! Overall, really awesome game which was very well put together. Great job! |
| Apr 19 19:53:13 | 122h 20m | Help! My Cats Become a Demon Lord! | ♥ 0 | This is adorable and very difficult to concentrate on with my own cat going on a rampage behind me! Love the art style and looks very nicely put together. If you hadn't have said about less polish than you were used to, I would have honestly thought the start and intro pages were just part of the humour! Gameplay wasn't immediately obvious (although I assume instructions would have been included on the intro page if you had time). Like other people have said, it might be nice to have some kind of indicator leading up to "naughty" behaviour although I don't think having to look in multiple rooms is terrible since there's only a couple and adds to the stress! Love the sound effects of the cat although I hope no cats were harmed in the making! Overall, a cute fun game that was well put together in the time and I really enjoy your sense of humour. |
| Apr 19 20:13:19 | 20m 06s | One inevitable thing | ♥ 2 | Very cute little game and I like the concept, very original take on the theme! I would agree that the difficulty needs to scale much more quickly, it didn't ever feel like winning was inevitable and it also didn't feel like I won since I stopped playing rather than losing. I think it could easily have been fixed with a higher difficulty and even if people dioe more quickly, I think they'll be more likely to play again to try and beat that score! However, of course there was probably no time for any play testing or balancing! The game seems to be bug free and does exactly what you want it to which is exactly what you want for the compo! The graphics were super cute and I love the cat! The mice were cute too and balloons adding more movement to the game giving it a more polished feel. I especially liked how dynamic the numbers felt with the random spread, colour change and fade out. You added a bit of story which was nice and felt made me feel more attached to the game since it was speakiung directly to me. Music fit the vibe and didn't get annoying which can easily happen from a loop although there did seem to be some gaps inbetween. I played for well over 5 minutes and only got about 40,000 so your high score is amazing! Overall, a really great entry! Well put together with a nice vibe, good take on the theme and looks cute! With a few minor balancing tweaks, would be a really addictive game! Can't wait to see the next one! |
| Apr 19 20:18:38 | 5m 19s | Delay Ludum Dare (Browser Extension) | ♥ 0 | This is hilarious and such a great take on the theme! Love it. |
| Apr 19 20:58:10 | 39m 32s | Low Tide | ♥ 1 | Such an original take on the theme and so adorable! So nicely polished with all the different fish, water movement and sounds. As other have said, the camera does let you down and I would have preferred to only have it rotate when I wanted it to. I do like the camera moving with the player though rather than just being an overall view of the pool so that you can't always see fish escaping from the holes and makes the game a little more interesting and panicky. I'm sure you would have experimented more with more time! Other than the camera, the whole game is very player friendly with lots of audio and visual gameplay feedback. Things like the exclamation marks indicating the gaps are small but super helpful things that you don't really appreciate until they aren't there but are so easy to forget about when you're developing a game since it's obvious to the creator how to play the game. So well done for making it supoer easy to just pick up and play! Took almost no time at all to figure out and get into. The graphics are incredibly impressive. So smooth and beautiful colour palette. If you created a virtual fish tank, I feel like I could happily just sit and watch that for a while. The music fit well and never got annoying and I like the pitch variatrion in the sound effects too Overall, absolutely amazing compo submission that I can't imagine how you managed to pull off alone in that time! |
| Apr 20 18:19:49 | 21h 21m | Swerve City | ♥ 1 | I'm usually terrible at games so happy with #5! Although here on @ciaranw 's recommendation so a bit bitter I didn't beat him! Really great concept and well executed. It felt like there was good variation in the pathways and once I realised left and right was to change lanes not turn corners, felt nicely like more strategy than a straight up driving game which is more of a test of reaction times. Again, I agree with the camera issue previously mentioned but managed to avoid it a bit by aiming for corners you could see in advance so wasn't a dealbreaker! Was slightly annoyed that I died due to three cars across the three lanes though... Ah well! Graphically super nice with lots of different things going on and felt very dynamic, especially with the sound effects. Overall, awesome job! |
| Apr 20 22:28:20 | 4h 08m | Gods of Divine Stuff: RAgnarök | ♥ 1 | An incredibly comprehensive game for a jam! I would be intrigued as to how many people worked on this since there's just so much content and it's polished to such a high level! I spent a good long time playing this which really sucks for the other games I was intending to play tonight haha. The graphics look amazing and the style is consistent. I like the movement in the drawings and the game felt very dynamic with each enemy also having their own animations. The music was nice and didn't get annoying at any point although the sound/volume options were a very nice touch. Having all the sound effects from firing all different types made the game nicely immersive and gave good feeedback as to what was happening in the game. Like previously mentioned, there was a bit of an annoying stutter/shudder in the game between most scenes although I assume this is something you would have sorted had there been more time. Also, I'm 99% sure those seagulls were multiplying... Only about 75% sure this was not intentional... This was more irritating given that it meant that I was often underprepared if seagulls started coming in as there would suddenly be loads more than walked onto my screen! Again, like people mentioned before, the final level was far too difficult. I was woefully unprepared and had to redo the whole game to specifically level up, save points and prepare for that level. The levelling up mechanic could have been more obvious by maybe having a little level icon near on the deity either on the shop or the field. You could add a little up arrow type indicator for when each is able to be upgraded to avoid clicking on them all to check as I did accidentally fire some units doing this. I did find it difficult to handle reading the stats of the new units whilst playing since I was trying to keep an eye on the map. It might be nice to be able to hover over them whilst paused. You could also make the stats clearer by laying the text out listed in the tooltip like "Power: High", "Attack Speed: Slow" (or something similar) in a uniform way which would make it easier to glance at the stats to compare while playing. The storyline was very cute and the way you meet all the characters was natural and a nice build up in the gameplay. Having the option to go back to the different levels might be nice for a post jam version. Overall, an absolutely amazing jam submission that is relatively bug free with so much content and polish! I really do hope you manage to release a full version. Good luck! |
| Apr 20 22:41:37 | 13m 17s | Monkey Seen, Monkey Screwed | ♥ 1 | This was super challenging but fun! I like the simple art style and the audio feedback was really nice. The background noises also added a nice bit of atmoshpere. I would say that the difference in volume for the background and the sound effects was a bit large, Mainly that whistle sound that's a bit loud! I also found the controls were very intuitive thinking that left and right would send me round the pillar rather than jumping to that direction. Made quick manouvers more difficult. However, the gameplay seems to be bug free and works exactly as intended so that's all you could want in a jam! The game has been well put together although I would have loved to see "Press enter to play" since I almost gave up until I read the comments! Might want to add it to the description. Overall, a well put together submission with a nice atmosphere and original gameplay! |
