Jan 24 19:00:21 Harvey's Tiring Job ♥ 2 Really cute little game with a great mood and relaxing vibes despite being mildly stressful fling veg everywhere! I agree with some comments that the phiysics felt a little weird and unnatural but I think it adds to the game and it would be to easy without it being how it is! I like how they fling around as you drag them although I might make them a little heavier in general so they don't fly so far and sit in the basket a little better. I agree that the farmer could walk faster at the beginning/end but I feel like maybe that would have been hard to figure out the conditions of when that would kick in with veg flying about and not always in the basket. Might be an idea to stick a fast fwd button in there for the player to click which would cut out that thinking for you to code in jam but still let the player skip ahead. Graphics were super cute and the simple style worked well for the game. Loved the way the colours stood out from each other and the contrasting veg colours. The only thing that distracted a bit for me was the pixelated lines/edges on the farmers which I think took away a little from the polish of the rest of the graphics and would probably have been worth investing some time into given that he was a main focus but I can totally understand that it may not have been possible with jam time pressures! Music was real chill too with good variation and the sound effects being very reactive to the player interaction made it very satisfying! Overall, love the atmosphere and the vibe, a really great jam game with a couple of very minor things that could be smoothed out. Awesome job!
Jan 24 19:31:18 30m 57s H. (A Harvest Puzzler) ♥ 2 I usually love puzzle and abstract games and minimalistic vibes and this was a beautifully moody, atmospheric experience with bright, contrasting colours and interacted nicely. However, it was spoiled slightly by being horrendously difficult to pick up! The idea of having to figure it out yourself excited me and was super intriguing. I tried really hard to figure out what I was supposed to do but there was no way I would have understood without the spoilers! I still think it would be great to not need them but the game would have to ease you into it a little more somehow (like how pests aren't in until the second level). It was very satisfying to see something actually happen, like the golden squares and the bars at the top filling up, but I did have no idea why anything was happening. Possibly having something to show you your previous configuration would have been good (although would clutter the screen maybe), especially for figuring it out, since I could not remember what colours I'd put down under those golden squares to be able to figure out the mechanic! I also agree with previous comments to have the full palette available to choose from since the cycling was indredibly inconvenient especially with the current colour not actually being the colour showing on top. Having said those things, this is overall an amazing concept and a great take on the theme. I was dreading having to play a whole bunch of farming games but, whilst this is farming, this is completely different to all the other games out there! The music is wonderful and moody and sound effects give interaction a nice responsive feel. Graphically simple but works so well and the subtle effects like the sheen give the game such a polished feel. I also really appreciate the colourblind mode being available! The I'll definitely be sharing this one with my team to have a go at! Absolutely incredible job!
Jan 24 20:12:13 40m 55s lanterns & mooncakes ♥ 2 We also went for the tenuous mid-autumn festival link to the theme! Although ours has nowhere near enough mooncake! Love the little story you put with it giving a sense of progression and achievement at the end with adorable cutscenes and characters. You kept it interesting with the lantern variation and adding the double jump halfway through as well as some interesting platforms so it wasn't always just left to right. The graphics were very simple and cute and all worked nicely together giving a super cute vibe and chill mood with the relaxing music. The jump animation was super cute with the cap coming off and the parallax background was a nice touch meaning that it didn't fel to static. The game looks very nice and complete, especially given the compo time constraints! A little audio when jumping/landing might have been a nice addition just to give the player a bit of feedback but I didn't feel like it was overly missing anything since the visual feedback with the jump animation was really nice. As people have mentioned before, the lantern physics don't quite work how you'd expect. They act a bit more like a see-saw rather than a swing so it was very confusing at first! Once I got used to how it worked, I did manage to complete it despite being awful at platformers. We did also make a platformer for one jam and didn't realise how difficult it was to get the movement down correctly so awesome job with the player movement feeling pretty smooth! Overall, really love the atmosphere that the game creates and the story that comes with it. Amazing job, well done!
Jan 24 20:26:37 14m 24s Type-Eat ♥ 2 Really great entry especially for a compo game! It feels really complete and polished with the even little things like looping round to the start screen which I find a lot of jam games lack. The audio feedback is really nice and also visually fun to see the bits go flying across the screen! Absolutely love the bucket of stuff filling up at the end too! Super satisfying to see the actual fruits of your labour haha! I do agree the game feels a little slow to start but I think the arcade vibe is fun. Maybe having an Osu or Beat Saber style fail mechanism where a bar very slowly goes up over time but decreases when you make mistakes would be good to be a bit more forgiving for a single mistake but still punishing. It might allow you to shorten the time for each word as well speeding up the game a little. However, I totally get that something like that may be a bit further out of the time scope or you'd have to compromise on some polish to get it in. Overall, an amazingly completed game and an great entry!
Jan 24 20:43:31 16m 54s Money grows on trees ♥ 2 The whole vibe of this game is super cute and really satisfying to play! Absolutely love the hand-drawn art style and the little bobby fruit with their adorable little faces! The audio was really nice and gave great feedback to the player's interaction which made it very satisfying to be harvesting all the fruits! I think I may have preferred the upgrades to be on a side/bottom pop-out/panel so I'm able to harvest at the same time as looking at and reading upgrades sine I always felt the pressure to be closing it to harvest my fruits! Showing the selling price of each fruit next to the quantity would have been nice too just to get some context and be able to compare them. A single sell button to sell all would have been nice as well unless you were to add some kind of aspect to the game that would affect if/when you wanted to sell each kind of fruit as there's not really a reason to not just sell everything at once. Just me being super nitpicky here! Absolutely great as it is, just a couple of things that might add a bit to the polish to it :) and of course, it's hard to fit lots of extra things in the time too! I did also at one point have no clementines growing on my two clementine trees and they just stayed empty which was very odd and I assume was a bug? Overall, a really amazing game with a great vibe and absolutely beautiful too! Great entry!
Jan 24 21:12:23 28m 52s ∆ntHill ♥ 1 Really interesting and original concept and a nice take on the theme without being another farming game! I agree with some previous comments with the interface being a little overwhelming, it was confusing as to which buttons I'd selected but I personally hate doing UI and I know it can be pretty hard to get feeling natural! Also, sometimes I thought I had enough resource to get ants and it wouldn't let me so I'm not sure if I was missing something or it was a bug. I really like the exploration and pathing of the ants with their trails and the camera tracking was a very nice touch. I think it would have been nice to be abble to zoom out a little further just to be able to see around the anthill more, especially since some of the harvest options sometimes ended up underneath the UI at the bottom. The days (and game overall) is quite long so I think a fast forward button might have been nice for whilst waiting for ants/resources to come in. The music was relaxing and the graphics were very nice. It was very satisfying the see the paths created and fade out and the resources appearing and disappearing. Overall, a really original game and a great atmosphere. Amazing entry, well done!
Jan 24 21:33:52 21m 29s Harvest of Love ♥ 2 A really cute and short game with funny and charming characters! This was a really refreshing take on a theme that pushed most people into farming games so was a lovely break! I love that it has the replayability of the different responses from the plants too. Amazing job for a first game and well done! No jam game is ever perfect (if it is, they weren't ambitious enough haha) so I'm glad to hear you're happy with the results but don't feel like you need disclaimer :P xx
Jan 24 21:55:02 21m 10s Grow Golf ♥ 2 A wonderfully polished and complete game with everything you could want from a compo game! It's soo replayable as there's very little "getting back into it" time and you always have a score to beat. The audio and visual gives great feedback making it very satisfying to play. I love that it has different aspects to it with the golf and farming and the snowballing aspect to collecting so many balls. Such an original take on such specific theme that pushed most people into farming themed games. Such an addictive game! I love it!
