Aug 2 01:53:49 Power Grid Manager ♥ 2 Interesting idea, quite enjoyed it for a couple of minutes until it threw keys at me that weren't on my (German) keyboard (the square brackets). I tried pushing them on the virtual keyboard but no luck. I also liked the feedback of the sounds, so I knew exactly what was going on.
Aug 2 02:10:20 16m 31s Power ♥ 1 Found this one very fun to play, yet kinda frantic (which was intentional, I presume). If you want to keep working on it, my suggestion would be to add a little comfort to the parser--unless, of course, it's clunky by intention, much like the camera angles and controls in the old Resident Evil games. Specifically, I tried pushing up to recall and edit my last command too often, probably because the DOS commandline is ingrained in my muscle memory by now ;) Also liked the mood of if thanks to missing information. What are animis? What does "pabula" mean? What kind of simulation is this? Who/what am I commanding? Who do I order my drones (?) to shoot at? Why is the simulation asking vain questions about itself? Could this be an A.I. on the cusp of self-awareness? Love it!
Aug 2 02:24:37 14m 17s Gargoyle's Curse ♥ 1 Very fun and very arcadey! I have a soft spot for retro-like games, and this one truly feels like it's from 30 years ago (I mean it in the best way possible, of course)! It was quite frantic at times and never felt too overwhelming (but it was close to it!). However, my trick of finishing the game was to just ignore pumping gramps’ machine and try to kill gargoyles and spawners as quickly as possible. Overall: Very solid entry!
Aug 2 03:07:27 42m 50s running out of Power ♥ 0 Very solid entry. Especially having a procedurally generated city in that short amount of time is pretty impressive! It took me a while to realize that I had to "active" the keys to be able to hear them when running around. The only features I'd enjoyed would be a slow-down button instead of a speed-up, since as soon as I was inside buildings, I lost any sense of direction and orientation. The other thing I've grown used to in my life was auto-center on myself on the map. but I get it: it's more like a traditional map. Further, I liked the unconventional use of music. I like my games easy and laid-back, back a few more UFOs here and there might have added a little to the challenge. But overall: I had quite a bit of fun -- good job!
Aug 3 16:58:17 37h 50m Audio Hook (formerly Hook, Beat, & Keeper) ♥ 1 Very arcadey, I like that. Also found the concept of building up a music track of stems very original. Sadly, it appears I had a bug in level 3 where one baddie snatched a steam and it just disappeared and never came back. Nevertheless: Good job!
Aug 3 17:04:33 6m 16s D34TH ♥ 0 It was real fun playing this one, once I got used to the floaty jump. Didn't make it to the boss because I couldn't help being dumb. Oh well... And congratulations of making and finishing your first LD game, the first one is always very special! Btw, just as you recommended, I played a few LD39 games and your was obviously the very first one. Video on Friday at "Phil-Motion Video" :) Be proud! PS: The QWERTZU build wasn't working for me, neither Z nor Y worked but the QWERTY version was surprisingly well to control anyway :)
Aug 3 17:12:06 7m 33s Fluffy's Charge ♥ 1 Wow, beautiful art and graphics! And even an animated cartoon character? Haven't seen that kind of craziness in any jam game yet, kudos! What threw me off a bit was that the warning for a fire made the triangle gauge go up and not the fire icon. But sadly, I don't think I understood the game, at least not how to actually make money, but chances are that I am a very stupid player. The overall sound could have been a little louder, though I guess you were saving the dynamic range for the explosion that inevitably ensued my poor performance. ;) Great job!
Aug 3 17:15:36 3m 30s LOW BATT ♥ 2 Really enjoyed this game a lot once I kinda got it. The music was very nice and even with the very minimal options, I had a blast performing a little. The lack of any kind menu screen or intrusive UI was a huge bonus and overall it was a very soothing yet stimulating experience. Great job! Now make a bunch more songs and sell us the soundtrack! :)
Aug 5 03:10:00 33h 54m Azrellian Asteroid Field ♥ 0 Almost reached 2000 with my 3rd playthrough. :) I really enjoyed the funky music, sounds like an FM synth of an arcade cabinet and also found the sound effects very fitting. Maybe the graphics could have given some more time (I know, I know, we don't have time for that!) but aside from that, I had fun playing this very arcadey games. Maybe in later stages it would have been nice to have some new gameplay element, e.g. horizontally moving asteroids, or enemy ships or somthing. But still: Very fun to play, solid entry!
Aug 6 01:02:37 21h 52m Coffee is Power ♥ 1 Found the game charming and very much reflecting my own experience when it comes to the jam: Running around and eating without a clear idea of what to do. I did all the things on the to-do list, spend a lot of time on the computer but when the jam was over, I learned that apparently, I didn't do anything, so a little more player feedback would have been nice, because I really thought that I got something done with all those if-statements and coffee guzzling ;)
Aug 6 01:10:25 7m 48s BAT-BATTERY ♥ 1 That's a quite funny take on the theme and I liked the concept. My personal problems I had were due to the visual feedback of the batteries. It would have been nice to have the bar diminish pixel by pixel instead of having just three images for that. Also, I couldn't really enjoy the level design as I was just frantically looking for new power all the time. I failed the first couple of times no knowing why because I still had most of my hearts still full! My suggestion would be to give the player a little more power to play around with and once that runs out, diminish the hearts one by one; much like starving in Minecraft. Still: I liked the graphics a lot and the sounds were very fitting. The tutorial level was a good idea, also! Nicely done!
Aug 6 01:16:08 5m 43s Disaster On Nebula One ♥ 3 Wow! The game looks and sounds gorgeous, it's very obvious that every waking second of five people's time went into making this, very polished in every aspect! My only gripe with this game is the layout of the controls on the keyboard (that's how I played it) because space and ctrl are not that really intuitive to repeatedly press at the same time. I'd have preferred W to jump and hitting space for the jet pack. But apart from that, you've really made a great 2.5 platformer. Excellent job!
Aug 6 01:21:23 5m 15s Shadow Crawl ♥ 1 Wow, okay, that game provided me with A LOT of nightmare fuel. With very little you created a haunting and frightening atmosphere! I liked the music and the torchlight system and was very happy you included an easy mode for me, which was still a bit too daunting. But the amount of content and levels you managed to squeeze into this game in such short amount of time is a feat of its own! As you'll hear me say in the video: I didn't like it (because I am very easy to startle and don't like exposing myself to frantic horror), but I liked it (because it was a real experience that'll stay with my for a while). Great goob!
Aug 6 16:05:06 14h 43m Proto472 ♥ 1 Wow, that was hard! Enjoyed the minimalist graphics and the music (well, at least the first few bars until I messed up). You're probably aware of the fact that sometimes your procedural generator created obstacles that are impossible, but aside from that my only complaint is that I'd like to have had some kind of energy so I could mess up more than once and really get into the flow for a bit longer. Aside from that: Very arcadey, Nintendo-hard game with great music! Great job! Also, the robot is very cute! :) I see you are still tweaking the game absed on the feedback, which is great! LD is, in sense, just a big beta-test for your game ideas and I find the feedback on here extremely helpful and of high quality. Btw, on Mondy afternoon another Phil Plays LD Games video will go live where you can watch me fail over and over again ;)
Aug 6 16:18:21 13m 15s Hopeless Space ♥ 0 Okay, I was having *real* big problems with this one. For one thing, having my spaceship flip over seemingly at random disoriented me quite a bit and I didn't really get to a point where I could regain some of my power. The enemies liked to pile up on top of me (see pic) and aiming was a big issue, as without a reticle I wasted good energy to see just where I was aiming at. 360 DOF is very tricky because controls and navigation are a real pain and programming-wise avoiding gimbal-lock situations can be equally tricky. But that aside I liked the models and the feeling of freedom and also the particle effects were nice, having a global leaderboard is also a nice feature for a jam game :)2017-08-06 18_12_11-Hopeless Space by KonH.png
Aug 7 16:15:21 23h 57m Scale of Life ♥ 2 Hi Pavel! You'r game is in my latest video, if you want to check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQCQ5LjoLgg
Aug 7 19:00:45 2h 45m VoltRush ♥ 1 That one was a fun experience! Enjoyed the music and the sound effects and the platforming was quite solid and Mario-like, meaning that knowing your way you could blaze through. My only (and biggest) complaint is that I couldn't really tell what was meant to be background and what I could land on, so maybe having a little less contrast in the (beautifully pixeled!) background graphics and a little more in the platforms would have helped me tremendously. Also, in this location I died multiple times without really knowing why. I took a screenshot and, lo and behold, the spikes are almost of the same color as the background! :( This was why I put the game down eventually because when I'm in a hurry, I can't stop and look for almost completely camouflaged spiked. 2017-08-07 20_55_54-GameMaker_ Studio.png Still: Very good job, lovely platforming, lovely art, funky music. :)
Aug 7 19:53:15 52m 30s Spacy adventure ♥ 1 This one is a very nice and very polished PICO-8 experience, I enjoyed it a lot. Also liked the shop-mechanic and was really a fan of the alternatice C button because of my German keyboard layout, so extra points for that! Music, graphics, gameplay, and sound effects are spot on, very well done. The only thing that threw me off a bit was are smoke and explosion effects and bullet trails because on many occasions I couldn't really discern what was going on with all the effects ';)
Aug 11 18:15:59 94h 22m Power the House ♥ 1 I really like the idea of this game, there's a lot of potential! I was a little confused as to what structures I could pick up and whether they were currently selected to be placed on a new tile but once I figured it out it was very straight forward. And it seems like you ran out of time because after I felt ready for the "real" game, it said "Thanks for playing!" ;) Also, you did a great job with the tutorial levels! You could add some more depth to it with houses that, for example, take up 2 power units (or more), houses that you can't put a pole next to, or differently powered power plants, etc. It felt a little bit like the old SimCity, so a big thumbs up!
Aug 11 18:23:10 7m 11s Nyctophobia ♥ 1 Very moody game that accomplishes a lot with very little. I get easily spooked but never thought that a black cloud could do the job. Also, the piano music with lots of reverb is nice and fits the tone of it nicely. I tried multiple times but never managed to escape. Oh well. :) Nevertheless: Greast job!
