LD46 — Keep it alive

XCAPE by Frozen Stick 2020-04-23T18:36:58Z

All of the special effects were great! The art was unique, and I liked it. I think it would've been a lot more intuitive if jump was on the up arrow and crouch was on the down arrow, but maybe you were trying to go for an arcade feel. I didn't realize how the ghost mechanic worked at the start, but once I got that down, it made the game easier. Before that, I think the difficulty curve was pretty steep. The music and sound effects fit the game really well.

Nice work!

(Edit) Oops! I just realized you explain the spirit mechanic on the game description haha.

@frozen-stick Ahhhhh! I didn't realize you could shoot upwards! That makes more sense, thanks :)

Disaster Island by Virtual Turtle Studio 2020-04-21T20:37:42Z

This was a super cool game! It would be great if I could select the number of citizens I want to move with the numbers on the keyboard. The modular system is awesome, and you could probably build on the idea a fair amount. Like Nathan mentioned, it would be a nice feature if the houses in danger lit up. Nice nav system, and I like how they all gather on the tops of the houses.

Very cool stuff. You kept me engaged, which is difficult to do with a jam game! Nice work.

God Save the CHRIST! by Gogani 2020-04-21T13:28:36Z

Hey, I haven't played yet, but I thought I'd mention that if you put spaces after your header tags (#), the Markdown will work.

Branch Out by Thermacon 2020-04-25T03:11:45Z

-Great graphics and audio.

-I liked the main growing mechanic.

-It was difficult to find the build order.

-I had no idea what the bug defense actually did. I assumed it would help against the bugs, but there was no visual indicator of what is going on behind the scenes.

-The bugs were difficult. It seemed like they would end me before my exponential resource curve took off.

I had fun! Nice work.

Yep, the link didn't work for me either.

The Dragonsitter by JoeShanahan 2020-04-25T22:30:53Z

Fun game! I didn't see if there was an ending...I got pretty far, and I was expecting the dragon to turn on me or something. I didn't see a way for the acorns to spawn, so that would put a cap on how long you can survive.

Oh, what were the beds for? I didn't notice anything.

Nice try, trying to make me feel a sense of ownership naming the dragon. I kept it as "Dragon". (partially because I was too lazy to name it) That thing is devious, and I should've thrown him back into the ocean.

Nice music, graphics, and controls. The lute playing was a bit grindy, but not too bad. I liked your modular pick-and-place system. Nice work :)

Unnamed Balloon Game: Video Game Edition by 1PunnyGuy44 2020-04-21T13:12:24Z

Nice work dude. You got so much polish on this, which makes it enjoyable to play. Graphics and audio were great, and the voice acting with varying lines was an awesome touch.

Super cool. My favorite part was how the player gets rewarded after they finish the puzzle by getting to listen to the tune while they collect resources. Audio, and graphics were so polished. The animation were amazing. I can't think of any issues besides maybe a tutorial.

Great work!

KIA by Marlo 2020-04-21T17:03:18Z

Nice work! I think the difficulty curve would benefit if you started smaller.

Very nice menu; it felt clean. I would add something to indicate where your current maximum xp is.

Tower of BOOM by BadPiggy 2020-04-21T17:14:33Z

The only thing that prevented me from playing this a lot more is the difficulty level when you're going through the levels quickly. I think the nature of the layout lends itself to a more methodical pace, but it seems like you want the gameplay to be fast and chaotic. Maybe something as simple as making a chance for only one enemy to spawn on a level? Might empower the player more

I loved the sfx, graphics, and great idea overall!

Oh, I didn't use the grenades much...if you were going for the whole fast-paced thing, maybe you could do a rocket launcher with a really quick projectile speed? idk

Nice work!

Critical Freight by Nathan Wiles 2020-04-21T16:40:22Z

Awesome job. That character dialog gave it character. Visuals looked nice, and the difficulty curve was perfect. Impressive submission!

@1punnyguy44 Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback! I would love to shove a few more plants in there. It might turn into a frantic plant-management game lol. I was considering putting barriers, but I decided to see how it went without...apparently I should put some in there XD

The Hand That Feeds You by TheAmerican 2020-04-23T18:23:43Z

@frozen-stick Thanks for the feedback! I realized some barriers would've been a good idea haha. I'm glad you had fun!

@virtual-turtle-studio Thanks for playing! I appreciate all of the feedback :) Hopefully, I can polish it a bit and make it more user-friendly.

The Hand That Feeds You by TheAmerican 2020-04-23T20:13:17Z

@vartagh Yeah, sorry about that. I prioritized getting the core game working over making a tutorial, so there's a lot going on when you first start playing.

@stefan0198 Thanks! Yeah, a fun fact about that font is that it's actually my handwriting XD So, it's not the neatest, and it needs to be a lot thicker. I just threw it in there because I didn't have time to find a better font haha. I realized how hard it is to read afterwards...

@joror

Yeah I have a lot of that stuff on my todo  Good idea to post the text in the game description.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the great feedback!

@huvaakoodia

Thanks for playing, and for the great feedback! Yeah I hadn't tried to do controls like this before, so it was kinda stitched together, as you noticed.

I like the idea of the plant being able to light stuff on fire. That would be a neat addition.

btw, nice profile pic.

Thanks again!

Flower: The Game by Tolo 2020-04-23T19:02:34Z

Hey, nice work! I was confused by the ladder at first, thinking I could climb it. It's definitely challenging to keep them alive after around the second time they all start wilting. Someone else suggested randomizing the timing for that, which I think could help.

I don't know if this would be an improvement or not, but you could try expanding the map and making the camera follow the player, so all of the flowers aren't visible at once. It might make it more engaging, since you get some more variety on the screen?

I made a flower game too, but I made it from top-down, so it's cool to see a platformer version.

Great music - I loved how the flower was timed to the music in the menu! The graphics were also nice. A couple more animations, like for watering the plants, would've given some more visual feedback to the player.

Nice work guys! It was fun to play, and I hope it was fun to make :)
