LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Sacrificial Sam by HitchH1k3r 2018-12-22T22:28:12Z

Nice job, I got stuck on the third level so I didn't finish, but it was really good. There are a lot of clever puzzles, and the mechanics are all really solid. The graphics and audio were also good, simple but visually clear.

Scapegoat by aurel 2018-12-22T22:59:08Z

The first thing that stuck out to me was the polish of this entry. The graphics and audio are pretty amazing for the time restraints. I was really surprised to hear a sung intro made just for this game. The gameplay is also really clever. I liked the idea, and the level design makes it more interesting than I was anticipating.

Pew! Pew! by sorlok 2018-12-22T21:42:58Z

Wow, this is one of my favorite entries. Lots of other games had similar ideas, where you have to sacrifice powerups in some way, but I think this is the best game that did something like that. The fact that you're not any safer even with a powerup makes things a lot more interesting. There's a lot of strategy about if you should get rid of all your powerups, or if you think you can survive with them. And you still want at least one, so you can sacrifice it as a last resort. It's really easy to understand but makes the game really interesting. The graphics and sounds were really good too. I had a lot of fun with it :)

Ordeals of Limbo by Cliff Lee CL 2018-12-16T16:28:46Z

I liked the idea but I felt like I didn't have enough information most of the time. For the first two levels I basically walked forward at the right time, and the third one I felt was just luck. Adding a footstep sound would have helped. Maybe make it correspond to walking a certain distance. The sounds and visuals were really polished though, and I liked the idea, just the main mechanic could have used a bit more polishing.

Sacrificial Platformer by tron-dll 2018-12-04T21:36:19Z

It took a while to understand it, but once I did this was actually pretty fun. It kind of turned into a game of chess, choosing what I needed to complete the levels and what was unnecessary. It started as a standard platformer and turned into something similar to lunar lander, where I had shoot in different directions to propel myself to the exit. My complaints are that the graphics are a bit bland, even in the time limits I think it's realistic to use something other than unity's stock assets. It would have also been cool to see more gameplay elements that could be removed. Like enemies that could get their ai disabled or something. The core idea was good though, and I still had fun playing it.

Fighting Souls by RAFFE 2018-12-16T21:59:39Z

This game was hilarious, I loved it. I didn't manage to beat it but I got to the final boss. It was really unique too, I had a lot of fun playing. Top notch voice acting btw :P

Fall and Fall by Chris Hurt 2018-12-09T00:24:02Z

This was a really simple but pretty fun game. My main complaint was that it was probably too simple, there wasn't really anything to do except dodge. (On an unrelated note, I'd recommend using another file sharing method that's more trustworthy, something like itch.io or even google drive. I didn't let this influence my rating but I'd keep it in mind.)

Fading Memories by schmavery 2018-12-22T23:34:59Z

This was actually pretty sad, you did a good job telling a story through gameplay. It was simple, but well polished and fun to play.

Impatient Patients by Ryfi 2018-12-04T03:38:21Z

This was pretty great, I liked playing the role of the worst surgeon ever. I would improve the actual surgery minigame though, I could barely tell what all the organs were supposed to be. I would also have like to seen more of a gameplay consequence for letting people die by ignoring them, rather than just a list of names at the end. Overall though, I thought it was really well done. A lot of the conversations with patients made me chuckle.

Soul Reaper by Jesper K 2018-12-16T22:49:30Z

I had a lot of fun playing this, but it was way too hard for me. I didn't manage to beat the boss of the first level. I felt like the reach of my weapon was too small, so whenever I was close enough to attack, the enemy would just attack me immediately. Some sort of block or even a ranged attack could have helped a lot. It played well though, and the graphics and sounds were really well done. The mechanics were also very intuitive and clever.

Gorth by Gamers Blood Entertainment 2018-12-22T23:12:53Z

I loved the idea and it plays well. My main complaint is that picking up and dropping should be the same button, it was a bit confusing trying to figure out which one to press. Other than that, I had a lot of fun. It was fast-paced with a bit of strategy, exactly the kind of stuff I love.

Protect Him by Sockman 2018-12-09T00:26:35Z

@nekonyo Yeah, I'm really bad at making visuals. I've been thinking of continuing to work on the game, and maybe with some extra time I can get it to look better. But that's definitely one of the things I'm least proud of. Thanks for the feedback!

Protect Him by Sockman 2018-12-20T19:24:07Z

@cliff-lee-cl I added an option to change mouse sensitity in the pause menu (press escape) last minute to try to fix that. I guess the sensitivity I'm used to is just really high. I'm glad you enjoyed it though, it's a relief to see that people enjoy the mechanics, I was worried it would be overcomplicated.

Reactor Overdrive by JUSTCAMH 2018-12-16T15:16:43Z

Really well done, I didn't understand it at first but after a few plays and actually looking at the instructions, it made a lot more sense. It fits the theme perfectly and it feels like an interesting game mechanic itself, rather than just having to get rid of mechanics, like I think a lot of other games have done in this jam. One thing I would have done is make the "upgrade" menu more easily accessible, or at least have a more clear break between waves so the player has time to strategize. I felt like if I went to change what the power was focusing on, I wouldn't be able to concentrate on enemies and would start to lose health. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun with this. I really liked how you had to choose where you could aim, it's something I haven't seen before and it made the game a lot more interesting. Good job!

Broken people by WTMK_BK 2018-12-16T23:15:15Z

Like a lot of other people said, I didn't really understand what I was doing. The cubes were falling so fast that I couldn't see what they were affecting. I think I was supposed to sync them up and get them both to be the same color? But then the love stat kept going down after a "round" and I didn't know why. If the goal was more clear I think it would have been a lot better.

GOD want everything by Doomky 2018-12-04T21:54:09Z

Great use of the theme, I had a lot of fun with this one. My only complaint is that moving side to side felt a bit choppy, I don't know if it's how you coded movement or how the animations work but it seemed off. Otherwise, great job!

Lastcrifices by Cerebral Bore 2018-12-22T17:03:04Z

This had a very simple idea but it was done really well. There's a lot of charm and polish that went into it which makes it more interesting than a lot of other entries. I loved the references (even though I didn't get many of them). Most of my issues have already been said before: parallax scrolling would be nice, and maybe some other mechanics or things the player can do to spice up the gameplay. Nice job though, I enjoyed this a lot.

Health N Shoot by LostHamster 2018-12-07T23:36:51Z

I really liked this, the idea was really neat and it was implemented really well. Making the regen so fast made every second into a fast decision about what to do next. Can I take a bullet, or do I have enough health to dodge? Can I kill this enemy in time or should I wait to get enough health to just tank the damage? I really liked it because of these scenarios, but I feel like it wasn't explored fully. Making the AI more diverse and maybe more aggressive could help, the saw blade enemies were a lot more interesting than the other ones. Also polishing and making the other mechanics more useful would make it better. I found myself not wanting to slow down time because it didn't really help, and the dash tended to put me in danger rather than get me out. Otherwise, really great concept. (I liked the graphics too, they were simple but communicated everything I needed to know, perfect for a game jam)

Portal 67 by tkf 2018-12-04T03:23:16Z

I feel like I was missing something. I thought it was going to be a "choose-your-own" adventure game, or something like an escape game, but it's so linear and there's so little to find. The reuse of the same images in different places didn't help either. The story was also never explained, I never knew what I was doing, where I was going, or why I was doing anything.

Die Or Die by SecretSG 2018-12-09T00:35:26Z

This had a good idea but the gameplay felt really lackluster. There wasn't really a strategy I could figure out other than picking up health and food depending on what meter was lowest. The main mechanic seemed to make the game feel unfair rather than offer interesting strategies or ways to play the game.
