LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Slash Quest by Big Green Pillow ft Mgaia 2015-12-15T21:19:00

This was super-cute, & I loved the art-style. Unfortunately while it ran smooth for the initial tutorial, the moment the enemies spawned the whole game chugged down to single-digit framerate & made it impossible to aim the sword. Clearly something in my PC setup disagrees with it.

Disappointed, as I'd have liked to play more.

KINAMI by SiENcE 2015-12-17T00:13:00

I really enjoy the audio & artwork on this piece; it's very relaxing & ambient. Unfortunately this relaxed feel is rather undercut by the countdown & zero-tolerance for player mistakes. I'd maybe recommend letting the player make mistakes & try again, to relax & enjoy the gorgeous sounds & ethereal art rather than stressing about clicking on the wrong thing ;)

A lovely piece of ambient exploration. Really enjoyable!

Mystic Temple by Tipyx 2015-12-15T16:36:00

A fun variant on the endless runner concept, with some charming art.

I especially like the two-button QTEs to escape from the various traps you might run into. I haven't seen that done in quite the same way before.

My one critique is that to stay ahead of the guardian, you have to run so fast that the great artwork blurs into a dizzying mess. I wanted to play more, but my eyes hurt too much so I had to stop!

Crooked Town by TeamEagle 2015-12-16T23:22:00

Really fun little game; the car had just the right amount of feedback, & felt satisfying to bounce around the environment. Only one minor criticism: Sometimes it felt like the woman-collection mechanism didn't always work reliably, but otherwise excellent.

Void by bakudas 2015-12-16T23:42:00

An interesting little game; the click-and-drag controls weren't too satisfying for me (I couldn't seem to get any movement less than full-strength, so wasn't sure why it wasn't just click-in-a-direction), but otherwise it seemed quite good.

EarthWard by luke 2015-12-15T22:20:00

Impressive work for such a limited timeframe; really enjoyed the art, & the game felt pleasantly responsive.

Growbot by Sink 2015-12-16T23:33:00

Very cute, & the puzzles were fairly satisfying. Struggled a little getting the correct cursor placement to use the soil, but otherwise very smooth.

Nodes by Rob Glen 2015-12-16T23:59:00

This is an interesting concept; however, the two-button controls end up a little tedious once you have a moderately-large network (especially whenever I accidentally went one node past the one I wanted).

I'm afraid I also didn't really understand what the fuel was for, or why I would buy it. It seemed to be linked to the green bars on each node, but beyond that I was stumped.

2108 M81 - Part I - by Kazura 2015-12-15T16:25:00

A really interesting landscape, definitely alien-feeling, & the growth/shrink mechanic has lots of potential.

A couple of minor points, in case they're useful:
- I did seem to run into a good number of seemingly invisible walls (things I couldn't jump over when giant despite them not being very big, & arches I couldn't walk under when shrunk despite being the same size as the arches you're supposed to walk under).
- The jump seemed very dependent on both the angle of the surface you're standing on & your movement speed. Sometimes it was difficult to get a satisfying jump forward.

Mecha Planeta by Zeriver 2015-12-15T22:11:00

This is an interesting concept, & one which definitely has space for expansion into other related mechanics beyond the scope of LD. Be interested to see what further development could turn this into!

Only (minor) critique of the game so far is that enemy ships can shoot you from off-screen before it's possible to click on them.

Plantown by ChrisAntem 2015-12-15T17:25:00

Lovely art illustrating an interesting little game idea.

Personally I found the drop-requirement for even the smallest structures to be a little too high, since those structures then decay over time anyway, & lost repeatedly due to the fertiliser sack failing to show up in the roulette for extended periods. (Could perhaps be worth buildings not collapsing from lack of fertiliser, but left on verge of collapse so first enemy who appears can knock them over like cardboard.)

Swarmonian Explorer by Teekeks 2015-12-15T21:42:00

Really enjoyed; love the fluidity of movement & the gorgeous right-click illumination effect. With a little additional time & polish this could be something really cool!

Super Wall Jump by Peekotus 2015-12-15T22:29:00

Quick-play arcade fun! I enjoyed how responsive it is, even if I'm not very good at it.

Certainly has that 'one-more-go' pull to keep trying to best your score. I could see this working well as a mobile game, when you need to pass a few minutes in a queue or something like that.

Evil Developer's Lair by Baecun 2015-12-15T16:57:00

Fiendish, but enjoyable. The use of the theme was cool, & the restrictiveness of the controls certainly makes you think about how to use them.

Good job on your first game!

Total Recoil by MAB 2015-12-15T15:29:00

Fun little game with a great soundtrack, though would definitely benefit from keyboard controls.

Dude On Fire by voca 2015-12-17T00:26:00

This is really cute, & I love the art style. However, the time the player has to react to the obstacles is just a split-second too short to feel satisfying. With a little polish this could do well on mobile, I think!
