LD42 — Running out of space

Hydrogenic by Gabe 2018-08-14T01:46:52Z

Like @gaoyuan-chen said, controls sometimes are bit confusing.

Unfortunately, most levels have the same issue, namely, because of particle collapsing you can complete level without moving, just reaching unnecessary electrons by your size.

However, it is interesting puzzle game. Overall it is great game ;)

It is unusual for me, that someone decided to make twitch game as jam game. Good for you!

There are really nice background music, ambient sound and sound effects at all. Also graphics are likeable. I like that buildings have various sprites for same thing.

I have few suggestions, what you can improve: - build (and guages changing) animation could be a bit longer because now it's hard to notice what has been changed - imho, plane is too fast to read tips (text becomes illegible) or it's just my fps. - it would be convinient if command coordinates worked both ways (A1 and 1A)

PS You should add on your stream, link to your game, because if somebody show up first on twitch, not LD page, has hard task to find that page.

Here is my result after 15 min of playing:

ludumdare410.png

I didn't really get what was going on. I was blindly running around, trying to do something. It would be nice if there was information how to play.

In my humble opinion, restart level option would be better than necessity to use backspace and choosing level every time you stucked.

Menu is well looking, but I can't get here again after I clicked Levels or Play Now. At the first time I had to restart game.

Graphics are okay, but with music or simple sound effect game would be more enjoyable.

I think idea is good, but it may be improved. This could be a COMPO submission.

Akameis by BJakubowski 2021-10-08T13:49:35Z

@recher Thanks much for comprehensive feedback.

You said about mixing turn-based logic and real-time, but actually, there isn't real-time movements. I mean, every monster, arrow and so on, does its movement only when time for turn is up, but monsters do not make action every turn - they walk every 2 (smaller monsters) or every 5 rounds (the bigger one orc/troll). And of course arrows move in every turns.

I really appreciate your suggestions about the hammer.

Problem with back to main menu after click "how to play" springs from lack of scaling UI in main menu scene. When you are using fullscreen, everything is fine. There could be also shortcuts, like Esc to go back.

I hope you would enjoy the updated version of our game.

Akameis by BJakubowski 2021-10-08T14:39:20Z

@pancelor Thanks for your comment :)

Hammer in this version, is just crushing tile in front of you (unfortunately also under you but it shouldn't), but in the future probably it will be destroying scenery objects and maybe dealing damage to monsters.

Thanks for your proposition about the controls. I also have an idea... Since there is no action which doing anything on the tile below, we can always do action on the tile in front of player, by default, without need to holding down any key. Spacebar would be just for walking forward and arrows for rotating.

We had many inspirations, NecroDancer was one of it, but we wanted to make turn-based puzzle game instead of rhythm game ;)

I'm happy, you had fun :)

BLOOPS! by jitspoe 2021-10-13T09:56:18Z

I wanted to show my score off, but now I see it's not really the highscore, however 1000+ score is satisfying for me ^^

After I read all the comments, I don't have anything new to add. UI and SFX are great :ok_hand_tone2:

The Penguins Below by michaelaranda 2021-10-11T23:43:23Z

Graphics are pleasing to the eyes and audio is pleasing to ears, together form good mood.

After 5 minutes I used to controls and got how to steer submarine gently.

There is fun in playing The Penguins Below, but cause of only endless mode, after few minutes, sligth boredom appears.

Overall cool game ;)

Bomb Ninjas by Thiago Nascimento 2021-10-08T10:51:48Z

It was funny ^^ We enjoyed playing your game, maybe cause of these sweety characters. Gameplay isn't complex, so it may be dull after few minutes, but I understand you didn't have time to add more features. Networking works pretty well. Maybe it would be useful if there will be chat in lobby. Scoreboard could be nice. Of cause there is lack of audio (music or just simple sfx), but you know it ;)

Crumbling Down by JustCallMeBB 2021-10-12T01:16:43Z

It is seriously good game. So addictive that I went through all levels even though I should go to sleep now. There are simple graphics and sounds but they are lovely :kissing_closed_eyes: Highly intuitive in-game tutorial. Respect for you that it is a compo game.

Really great work :)

PS I think, it would be nice to control choosing space for glue using only keyboard. So you could add placing glue using arrows/WSAD, without clicking the mouse, but now I see, that idea would break how we use spacebar now for stop using glue :< maybe glue tiles with another key, eg. enter key?

PPS We did kind of similar (especially in crumbling floor mechanism) game to yours, but with turn-based style. It supposed to be more logical too, but now you can feel its adventure/action theme. If want to, you can check out [here](/events/ludum-dare/49/../49/akameis/).

Lapis Vitae (Point&Click Adventure) by MelekTaus 2021-10-06T20:54:33Z

Guys, you did really well!

When I saw it is point&click dungeon game, I expected quite boring and a bit pointless walking for one location to another, like in hack&slashes, but... But gameplay was surprisingly involving with witty story (never used ESC to skip). Everything is deliberate and interconnected. Nice :) I enjoyed solving puzzles. Pleasant to look at particles and whole composition. Good job.

I played for about half an hour.

PS I made it :P

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

@janinna21 @petr-vejchoda There is a known bug that sometimes (we don't know when yet) hide Exchange option at the beginning of a player's turn. Nevertheless, trade is only available before the dice roll (it is by design).

@petr-vejchoda You may be right. We'll probably look into it next week.

@maksim-terskov Dunno if this could help, but I've reduced the build size (~3 times smaller ambient sound file). I think sometimes it just takes a while to load. Please try waiting 15 seconds more, even if there is black screen only.
