LD55 — Summoning

Virtual Church of the Digital Goddess by Geckoo1337 2024-04-25T16:41:06Z

Amazing puzzle game. Some puzzles were quite difficult but I enjoyed them. Some of the levels did require a bit of trial and error but when I found the solution it was really satisfying. The graphics and music are also great. If you can, a web build would be nice because I know some people don't download games and I think everyone who comes across this should play it.

Call of Aether by Coda Highland 2024-04-25T14:43:04Z

Very interesting game. I feel like the lack of music lets it down but otherwise it was a good game. It probably wouldn't have been too hard to just have some sound effect play as the text appears or have some very simple music, like just having one or two notes held down could create some atmosphere. I feel like sometimes you can easily get lost if you don't know the specific combination you need. Also I feel like there was no reason to ever erase an Augmend, so why do you have to option to do that? Anyways, nitpicking aside it was quite a good game.

Emperor's Call by Balgorode 2024-04-18T02:38:50Z

Nice Game. Quite impressive for a game made in 48 hours by one person. It could be possible for you to make an infinite mode by just randomly selecting opponents so that there could be some amount of replayability (i.e., highest waves survived or something like that). It could also be interesting if your units didn't heal between waves so you had to use you resources to heal them thereby butting a limit on how long people can keep going.

Summoner's Paradise by poboy 2024-04-17T16:04:52Z

Nice idea and quite on theme. I liked the art and music. I sometimes felt like the screen shake was a bit too intense. Near the end I was just getting constant upgrades as well which was kind of annoying. I sometimes walked off the bottom of the screen, not sure if that was intentional.

Overall it was quite a fun and interesting game but I feel like there are some bugs and problems with the gameplay loop which could be made clearer (what is the point in having to summon your companions? Can they die or was I just on easy mode?).

Midnight Mage by SparkyDoc07 2024-04-18T01:07:27Z

Good overall concept. Quite similar to my submission in fact. I do feel like there are a few problems that let it down. I won't list them all here but I will say the most actionable ones. - You could try to add some sort of objective like surviving a certain amount of time or killing a certain amount of enemies. - I think some gameplay mechanics could have had some explanation and I wasn't sure why I would need to use the other three spells when the first spell worked just fine. - I also feel like some music / SFX could have been nice, even if it was just royalty free stuff off the internet.

I felt like it had some potential but it lacked a lot that would be needed to make it shine.

The Tidy Up Demon by Wbertrand 2024-04-18T02:15:03Z

Great job, especially if you did this on your own! The high-pitched music was a bit annoying though. Also I felt like there wasn't really any pressure to get the tasks done in time, they were all quite easy. I also encountered a few bugs, namely that the tasks completed counter seemed to glitch sometimes and that when I tried to sweep something while moving I would just glide across it.

Djimm's Revenge by player04 2024-04-18T02:56:17Z

Really nice graphics. Sometimes the music would cut out randomly. Also both the 'Retry' and 'Quit' buttons seemed to both bring you to the main menu which is annoying since you have to go through the intro cutscene again. The controls for throwing the apple could have been made a bit clearer. I felt like there were a bit too many bubbles and the bubbles splitting up when you destroyed one just made it harder.

Thundersnow by Bluepir 2024-04-25T14:54:09Z

Amazing graphics! As others have said, the hammer throwing animation is a bit annoying if it happens every time you throw it. Also, in the first level, I feel like Loki's projectiles come a bit too quickly. I think that could be fixed through a zoomed out camera but if you think that would get in the way of your art style then don't worry. I experienced a bug in the second level. When you defeat Hella, her attack can still happen, killing me in the final cutscene. Also, didn't Baldur say that Loki went to Hel? How come the final boss was Hella? Where did Loki go?

Path of Summoner by Pedryx 2024-04-25T15:18:43Z

I like how you clearly showed the controls. I feel like the game would be better if it had some sort of goal. The combat wasn't all that satisfying and I feel like the game is more weighted in putting importance on specific aspects of the combat (e.g., picking a weak enemy). Also I think you should have some sort of confirmation before moving players on to the battle. I accidentally clicked the ready button a few times and went into battle with an unprepared team. I feel like the graphics could have used more variety. For example, you could color everything based on its highest trait rather than have all minions and enemies look the same.

If you are going to do Ludum Dare on your own, you could consider competing in the compo. It would only give you 48 hours rather than 72 but I feel like the competing alone is the hardest part of the compo so if your already doing that you could try the compo. Otherwise, I think it would be best to find some people to help with aspects of game development you aren't great at.

Mass Move Minion Magic by obittner 2024-04-17T16:33:18Z

Great game! There are some very difficult puzzles and I really enjoyed it. You seem to have made it using LÖVE 11.5. If this was your first time using the engine then great job, it was amazing! I checked and it seems LÖVE 11.5 does have the ability to run on HTML5 so you could consider adding a web build. Other than that I don't have much advice, great job!

Occultris by stesim 2024-04-25T15:41:27Z

I like the gameplay idea, however I think there are a few issues. I feel like the way you summon beasts leads to you just spamming E and then summoning when the circle is full. This could be fixed by creating a cost of adding upgrades but that would only make the fact that the beast runes and upgrade runes are together more annoying because you can't choose to upgrade, you can have to use the upgrades that are given until you get a beast. I also feel like the combat being on one lane doesn't make much sense as it means that if an altar is destroyed, that entire row is unusable for both sides meaning that both the winner and loser are using the same amount of rows. It also means that a strategy you could do is to just give up on one or two rows because if you get two rows, your opponent can't beat you.

@atan Thanks for the feedback! I have updated the controls in the description so hopefully it will be less confusing.

The Scared Summoner by Dymino 2024-04-17T16:39:12Z

@porchor Thanks for the feedback! I originally intended to have multiple summons which is why I put the key bind on the [1] key. I probably should have changed the key bind since I didn't get any other summons in .

First of all, have you considered adding a web build of your game? I think it would both make it easier to play, as well as fit the aesthetic more. If the game's too large though then I suppose you wouldn't be able to.

Anyways when it comes to the content of the game I would say that it would be nice if there wore more ingredients and if they weren't always running away from you. That recipe book would have been nice to have as well. it's a shame you didn't have the time to implement it. I think if the pace of the game had been a bit more slow and it was mainly focused on strategy and appeasing chat more (rather than chasing those dang ingredients ) then there could have been more potential.

Cooking with Satan by derfl007 2024-04-20T19:34:30Z

By the way, I see you haven't gotten any karma from leaving feedback yet. Are you aware that in Ludum Dare, the amount of people your game is recommended to is based on the amount of other peoples' games that you leave feedback for. I believe feedback means leaving a comment, not just rating.

Out of Chalk by coffe789 2024-04-16T09:39:39Z

Great game! Really fun gameplay, great visuals, good music, and on theme, just great all around. When I was playing through for the first time I accidentally quit and lost all my progress . Maybe consider adding a level select next time?

Soul Pact by SesMiRe 2024-04-20T20:14:04Z

First of all I want to say, great job! I loved the whole game but in particular I feel like the music was amazing. I really appreciate the amount of detail and the well-crafted puzzles. However I do believe that some puzzles weren't very clear and required a bit too much guessing, like at the start of level 2. Also I noticed a bug while playing which is that if you switch characters while performing an action (e.g., walking, jumping, interacting) the character gets frozen mid animation which is kind of weird to look at.

Overall I think that, while it's not very on theme, it is quite promising and I feel like with a bit of polish and some rebalancing, it could be great in a final project.

You've Been Summoned! by Kevin.L 2024-04-18T01:25:55Z

There seemed to be a bug when I tried to open it. The music started but the screen was all black. I checked the console and it said FEL: Failed to present swapchain. Not sure why that happened.
