LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Strange Loop by Joel Davis 2020-10-06T06:17:17Z

I loved this. Something about stretching this puzzle concept onto a 3D shape makes it so much more challenging and engaging spatially. Could totally see myself putting on some music and zoning out with one of the weirder shapes. (The vapor-adjacent visual style is wonderful, too.)

Any bugs I ran into had to do with the visuals scaling up to fullscreen but not the controls--stuck with windowed mode and it worked like a charm. Three tiny gameplay things: (1) Right-click to x-out would clear up left-click to toggle the line. (2) I'd have preferred that the user x-outs be visually distinct from the preset ones. (3) I would have liked to see the solution when I gave up.

Great work!

Tough puzzles! Visuals are great; pixel art is razor-sharp, and I really enjoy how your recorded self's next move is forecasted on its screen. I think snappier movement and sound effects for EVERYTHING would liven this up considerably. It's a really good time as-is, though--definitely one of the most inventive interpretations of the theme I've seen. (Truly, words cannot describe that mechanic.)

Loop Run by Iron Leonem 2020-10-06T05:25:57Z

This is a terrific idea. I think the addition of a minimap and an indicator of how many keys you have/need to allow for route planning would break open its potential, but it's engaging as-is. I ran into the aforementioned jumping bugs, but they weren't game-breaking--I didn't mind an occasional double-jump. Way to go on your first Unity project!

(One more thing: if your game uses the space bar, make sure to change Navigation from Automatic to None on your pause button! Leaving it as Automatic makes the space bar "click" the pause button when the button is highlighted.)

Hey--I get the following errors when I try to run the game. 2020-10-06 17_37_29-Groove Music.png2020-10-06 17_37_18-Groove Music.png2020-10-06 17_37_12-Groove Music.png

Let me know if you get this patched up!

This is seriously cool! I love the idea of a single-player game where you control a horde one unit at a time. The crayon-like visuals are charming and delightfully squishy-looking, and the feeling of nailing an infection and seeing a new pool of replicated viruses emerge is very gratifying. Unstable though it may be, I'm in awe that you managed to include a step-by-step tutorial in a jam game.

As you mentioned, I ran into quite a few bugs, some of which ended a run, and some of which were just confusing, like a simultaneous Success/Failure state. In fact, I think a post-jam version of this game would benefit from a lot more information--individual health bars for the bacteria, some sort of outline around your controlled virus, an ever-present count of how many viruses you have left, etc. Maybe even a visual cue if you're working with an evolved virus. I couldn't evolve enough to make it to the end, but I would play the hell out of an extended version of this game, with other varieties of viruses and bacteria. Could be a great educational game, too. Kudos and good work!

Tower Rescue by Nathcra Games 2020-10-06T21:54:13Z

First off, kudos for making something functional for your first game jam! I played through several levels of the game, and I'm not sure what poses a threat to my turrets or my money count. But the central premise--a tower defense game against a single "boss" tower--is really compelling!

I think if the enemy tower could fire back at the player, and you had some way to re-arrange your turrets in real-time, this game's potential would break open. As for balancing income, I'm thinking some kind of "bank" tower that you shoot to earn money instead of the main tower. Then you have to make a decision: do I set my turrets up to get some extra cash, or do I wail on the main tower for a while? Regardless, good work and congratulations!

I'm astonished! This is truly and deeply excellent. It took me a few tries to get my bearings, but the thrill of catching a ball you had just thrown into the ether and then watching your past selves work in harmony is potent. I think the only thing standing between this game and a Steam release is a whole bunch of polish. Amazing work!

12-to-6 Shift by BGSulz 2020-10-06T05:27:48Z

@iron-leonem Thank you for your kind, constructive, and detailed feedback! The level par display was the victim of time-crunch. If there's a post-jam version, par will be front and center. Thanks again for playing!

@dyguests Thank you for your feedback! The speed is locked, but that's a great idea for a potential post-jam version.
