This game looks alot like Notches game "Prelude of the Chambered", I might be wrong but since you "started the lapse later in devolopment" i think you've done something behind camera we were not supposed to see. This is so simple, for me Ludum Dare's all about learning, and it feels like you learned nothing by making this game... You could take some time to play around with the store system, maybe make a store or something.
