Man, please upload the executable file. It's really hard to launch your game. Use PyInstaller for exe files or Pygbag for browser.
I added the executable, and it should work. Thanks for letting me know.
@lucky-racoon yep, that works. Well done!
Good visual but i dont understand what i need to do in this game((
Awesome, your game is magnificent! I had a blast playing it, really cool stuff!
This is my first game jam, how could I improve?
Congrats on participating in your first game jam! Nice platform collect game. Enjoyed it. Especially loved those vicious ducks 😆 The jump and fall mechanism could be a bit faster. Falling from higher heights felt very floaty. Some sound effects would've really worked great. Some quacking, gun sounds and a car engine. Very well done for you first time. A lot better than a lot my games through the years 😆
Thanks! It was supposed to feel a little floaty (kinda like Dumbo the elephant, although it's probably too floaty) so that you can smash the ducks. I would love to add sound affects, I will when I update the game after the game jam is over. Thanks for the advise!
Haha, there’s the elephant in the room! Great first entry! The graphics are lovely, but it’s a bit confusing at first to figure out what you’re supposed to do. Adding a button prompt when you’re near the steering wheel and a little message like “Parts missing” when you first try to drive would help; or just some other kind of small tutorial.
I was a bit surprised that the ducks have guns 😄 but they make for great jump ’n’ run enemies!
Thank you for the feedback!
I gave up trying to beat this game. Maybe there's some strategy I'm missing, but I can't get to a point where I can reliably avoid dying. The ducks move randomly, so a well-aimed ground pound is still guaranteed to occasionally miss, and landing directly next to a duck will occasionally result in an instant death if the duck happens to shoot at that moment. Once you get to the levels with like 20 ducks in them, these small chances add up to make the level mostly impossible unless you happen to get lucky on timings.
Combine all that with the fact that the hit-box on the ducks is tiny, that ducks can shoot you from the opposite end of the map, and that the ducks are laid out in groups of up to 4 (where even a successful kill still exposes you to 3 other unkilled ducks' bullets) and this game becomes massively frustrating.
Yeah, I notice the hitboxes for the ducks were a little small. Good job getting as far as you did, I wasn't expecting anyone to finish the game, but if someone happened to, sweet! Thanks for the feedback.
A solid first game, and a compo!? I would've liked some music or sounds, for sure. It took me a second to get used to the floating jump as I moved, but that was overcome after a little bit. I do think it would've benefited form a full screen mode or something, at first I didn't realize the ducks were carrying guns, lol. It could've also used maybe a level counter, so you'd know how far you had left to go to complete. It got harder the more ducks and larger levels there were, maybe the ducks off screen shouldn't be allowed to shoot? Still, a great job getting all of this in for the compo!
Such a fun game, I really enjoyed it! The visuals are simple, but rebuilding the car while dodging the duck gang was a blast. Great job, especially for a first jam!
Nice game for your first jam! The gameplay loop did get repetitive quickly though. I really like the elephant (I think?) character.
Fun game. I liked the visuals and the aesthetics. I found maybe falling was a bit slow, but that's probably intentional with the slam mechanic. A great first game jam!
this is a fun little game, especially for a first jam. the idea of rebuilding your car while dodging a duck gang is genuinely funny.
i was a bit confused at first about what to do, though. i think adding a small prompt or a tutorial message at the start would help players figure out the controls and the goal right away.
overall, a solid first entry. good job!
I will definitely add some sort of pointer to what you're supposed to do... after the voting is over. Thanks for the pointer and the complement.
THe game was quite fun, although I would add some sort of indication when duck is about to shoot, because its a bit annoying when you land near one and it just instantly shoots you
I was a little confused on the first level, then it clicked for me. The ducks were a lol 😄 I appreciated that the floating jump had to be used to reach platforms below you (otherwise difficult to reach). Clear design and solid work!
Congrats on you first jam entry 🎉 Managing to create a compo game on your first ludum dare is amazing! I like your art as well!
I really tried to finish your game, but it is too frustrating in the later levels. The ducks behaviour is too inconsistent. They sometimes shoot while walking and can turn around and shoot instantly. They also don't have sound ques so when you first play a level, there is no way to know where bullets will come from.

This is the level I gave up on, it just feels like I am relying too much on RNG to complete this.
@lomna, thanks for playing! That is the last level, that's why it's so hard. I'm surprised that you made it that far, so good job! I do agree that I need to add sfx and simple audio. Thank you for the info!
Congrats on your first Compo entry, and with PyGame no less! Sounds like you're really interested in getting some nitty-gritty feedback, so I'll give as much as I can that could be helpful.
**The best parts:** Here's what I think you are already doing great: - The little character animation is fantastic. I love the little animations when he is idle and moving his trunk around, and how his ears flap when falling. - The visuals for the enemies and car were great too. I like that all the parts were unique and you could see the car being assembled, and ducks with guns are just hilarious adversaries. - The overall game flow of getting past the ducks, getting parts, and driving away in your car was nice. You did a good job ramping up the complexity and difficulty in the first few levels and it never felt like there was a huge jump in difficulty.
**Bugs I found:** Very few! - It felt like the "you fell to your death" check is based on time in the air. With the floaty character, I think I ran into it just playing normally and taking my time getting down from a high point! There might be a more sophisticated check here to check whether you're somewhere "recoverable" if a death box at the bottom of the map would take too long to trigger.
**Design feedback:** - The duck behavior was very unpredictable (especially around firing bullets), and it sometimes felt difficult or impossible to approach certain groups of ducks without the risk of an unexpected shot hitting you. A visually obvious animation for "about to fire" would go a long way in making the enemy combat feel more fair. - The later levels were difficult, and more importantly, quite *long.* Neither of these things are bad on their own, but with the player dying in one hit, the combination is a bit problematic. A lot of times you can spend several minutes picking up three of the four parts, get surprised by a duck's quick draw, and lose all of that progress. You could tackle this in a couple ways: - The "long" part -> make levels shorter, while keeping a similar level of enemy threat. Or, make the player movement quicker so that you can re-do your progress with less time wasted on death. On average, players in a jam will probably only play for 10-15 minutes total, so you want to make sure to make that 10-15 minutes as memorable as possible. - The "difficult" part -> make the levels more forgiving by giving the player multiple lives, or somehow retaining progress or making the level easier on retries (such as keeping the parts you've installed on the car or keeping dead enemies dead). It's a game jam, and the rule of thumb is that it's always harder than it feels to you, because you have 48 hours of practice! - For the camera movement in particular, I'd recommend having the camera "lead" the player rather than follow it. If you're looking and moving right, you probably want the camera to position itself to where the player is on the left half of the screen, so you can see more in the direction you're looking/moving.
**The spice:** These are things that I think could take your game to the next level: - Death animation for ducks (and maybe a sad "quack" sound when they die!) - Sound effects - Extra "juice" like particle effects, blinking on damage, and screenshake for impacts. For an example of how far you can go in a pygame platformer in 48 hours, look at some of the effects in Explont by DaFluffyPotato: [https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/explont](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/explont). Also recommend watching the Vlambeer talk about "The Art of Screenshake" on YouTube. - Tutorialization - It can be as simple as floating text in the first couple levels to tell you how to move and interact. One thing I missed even reading the game description is that you can actually kill the ducks with the stomp, the first couple levels I just avoided them! - Web build - It's actually not too hard to do with PygBag! Happy to give you help or resources for this if you want, I've been doing web builds for Pygame for the last several events.

For your hard work I'm awarding you the **Satisfying Trunk Wiggle Animation** award. Don't spend it all in one place!
Hope to see you again next time for LD61!
@jeremy-ryan. Dude! Thank you sooooo much for all that advise! I've watched a lot of DaFluffyPotato, he's why I'm where I am. I'll probably take all your advise when the jam is over and I can update the game. Thanks for the "Satisfying Trunk Wiggle Animation" award, I'll figure out what to do with it. Again thank you soo much for all the advise, you've been doing this for a while I can tell (because you've done 22 Ludum Dares!)! I hope to be in Ludum Dare 61, but we'll find out when it comes. I'll try to rate your game if I can find a second player. Thank you!
