the wobbly hand-drawn room with the CRT and the VCR shelf is nicely unsettling, and a horror about an overdue rental is a great hook. only got to the first call from the video store, so no scares yet for me

oh my gosh I loved this. I struggle with scary games but the literal hand-drawn on-paper art was charming and I had fun interacting with all the stuff. Unfortunately my head got eaten off by a video store employee while I was trying to make popcorn. So just normal stuff! Nice work :)

Well, looks like I didn't get eaten after all :) Really interesting game! It's very well put together, and the art direction deserves a special mention.

Great graphics, this is something AI can't do :-)

very confusing

yibirabbit007 2026-10-22 07:15 ♥ 0

Survived for about three minutes and forty seconds, got caught wandering around while the tape was playing

The whole scene isn't dark enough, the art style doesn't match the jump-scare vibe, and it isn't as scary as expected. 🤐

Continuous video playback is pretty rare in jam sessions, but this part really grabs my attention.

I beat it! It took a few tries to 'get it' but it was smooth once I did. Graphics were unique and charming. The audio cues were helpful in figuring out what needed attention. I hated having to listen to the phone at the beginning of retries though. That voice was annoying.

shanzpro 2026-10-25 05:05 ♥ 0

@john-shen I probably should have included a button for players to skip the starting phone call, haha. The voices were very animal crossing inspired. There is one way to die that results in the night clerk himself speaking as well. Thanks for playing!

I love what you guys did for the character voice :D Interacting with objects feels really smooth, and I love the weird hand-drawn art style too. Played three or four times, but never lasted very long because I was too scared (mostly because of the sound

I really like this game, it had me on edge feeling nervous. After some tries I got most of the sounds down except the shower, I can't seem to clear of the black sludge, maybe I am too late to react.

So cool idea and great execution!

VHS tapes and video rental are perfect for the theme, and horror for the season.

Great to see that you did not use AI :)

Haha, this was really fun, I really liked it 😄 Good job on the entry! I love the hand-drawn graphics! 😉

Great entry, I really liked the art style. Love that "old tech" could mean both rental VHS and hand drawn art :)

debugman18 2026-10-27 02:20 ♥ 1

Awesome execution of the theme. The hand-drawn art is great, and the music is nice.

Video store entries unite!

Love the hand drawn art and sound design. Died a couple times, but my third night I was very diligent.

Nice work!

I really enjoyed this! Great visual design, and it kept me on edge. Unfortunately, I never figured out where to find the popcorn, but I did manage to watch the tape all the way through!

shanzpro 2026-10-28 03:35 ♥ 0

@noble-goose glad to hear you were able to finish the game! Popcorn is in the far right cabinet in the kitchen.

artonix 2026-10-28 20:12 ♥ 1

Only after the 4th attempt did I realize that the grayscale fragments of the video are actually hints about the anomaly. After that, the game becomes much less hectic. Such a cool entry!
