Unfortunately the game crashes with an error on Linux using Wine during launch sometimes. I had to launch it three times, then somehow it worked. So that's a bit inconsistent. ^^'
When it works, it is quite fun. I didn't expect enemies to cause these jump scares in the first run. So if you were going for that, well done. Still unsure whether the sounds make it more or less scary. ^^'
@thejackimonster yeah, I wonder if I'm doing something with winapi wine doesn't like. Previous games have been a windows build using SDL, which might be a bit more standard in the way it goes through winapi.
I was half going for the jump scares. I got jumped while playtesting, I think it's because they kind of slide around fast / randomly with the terrain (and make a loud noise when you die :D )
Ah this is a great entry. I got a good fright on my first try. I like the art style and the game title is the best hahaha. Good job, I really enjoyed this.
The tree strategy definitely works, but with enemies also getting stuck on faraway trees it kind of made me want to get away from it occasionally.
Also yeah, the enemies did seem to accelerate randomly, which added with the overall vibe of the visuals and sound effects adds to the creepiness.

Which level of the Backrooms did I end up in? 😱
@givit-game-studios Cheers :) :) means a lot!
@boxofcuriosity yeah, I realised, maybe could've just given the player less arrows. Then you'd have to go out and pick some up 🙃
@fifut idk man 🤣 hope you enjoyed! ;D

Very cool scary atmosphere! I found it unsettling that the corpses still pivoted towards me, Im gonna decide that was a narrative choice lol

I will have nightmares because of this enemy design, on a related note I'll also have nightmares knowing someone made this in C... stay back pointers!
@acartlidge I was aware that would happen, didn't even think to stop them rotating tbh. Surprised (in a good way) at how many ppl think it's creepy/scary :D :D
@freamdev C is underrated ;)

Love the look of this, great visual style and well picked sounds. Writing it all in plain C and Vulkan is seriously impressive. Great job!

Very impressive to make this in just C and vulkan. Well done! You managed to really set an eery mood. At time it felt like the hitboxes for the trees were a bit too large. I sometimes couldn't get the arrow between too trees that were close to eachother. Still a surprisingly addictive game. 👍
@cogcomp Yeah, the hitboxes really annoyed me too. Was having trouble with cylinders in box3D, the tree is a box with a sphere at the base. So sometimes you inevitably hit the corner of the box. Any smaller, and you'd be able to clip inside them. The problem was made more extreme when the trees were scaled, but didn't have time to come up with any fix.
tysm for playing! :)

That was surprisingly fun for how simple it was. I liked that you could pick up you arrows again. It would have been nice if your score was displayed on the game over screen as I have no idea what my best scores were. Hunting through the trees was the most fun, but quite frustrating when randomly being killed out of nowhere.
I finally managed to win with a really cheesey method of waiting out of their reach part way up the wall at the edge of the arena. I thought I may have to come down to hunt the last few, but they are not limited to 100. I did try hiding up against trees within the arena but couldn't fire fast enough towards the end. Untitled.png Ran fine for me in Wine.
@someone that's amazing, thanks for playing!!
The gameplay is simple and surprisingly efficient, great job! I liked how the enemies hide behind trees. But I couldn't get more than 20 points, playing with a touchbad was not easy. Runs fine on wine.

Feels like the kind of game the protag downloads at the start of a creepypasta. Found a cheese spot under two trees. The monsters are too tall to get under. Making a 3D game in C for compo is amazing!Screenshot 2026-10-24 203118.pngScreenshot 2026-10-24 202503.png
I managed to win via the tree strat, these guys scared the hell outta me on my first play and the atmosphere definitely added to the creepy factor! Nice work!
This was very fun to play. I love the pathfinding of the enemies as they hide behind trees before creeping up to you.
Okey didn't expect a horror game but it did the job simple formular but scares my shit out i got freaking goosebumps ehhhh
@rekk1d @sergueille-bismuth @lomna @ty-victorson @mohidthedev @wo-ri-gou-le Thanks for kind words guys 🙏
Maybe I should try and make games more scary, ppl seem to enjoy it 🤣 , might be some of the more positive commments I've ever got on a game ...
Man these guys are spooky, especially when they come absolutely sprinting at you! This is literally the exact experience I always have when the theme is announced.
I tried to play "fairly" without glitching into anything, but the game gets really difficult long before I got close to 100 enemies. The flow and timing on pulling back your shots, picking up your arrows, etc. felt really good though --- the one QOL thing I would have liked is a crosshairs where the arrow would actually be fired!
I think the biggest area for improvement is probably audio, since horror games in particular rely very heavily on the atmosphere and sounds. That said, I still got jump scared even with the BFXR sounds so they're clearly doing their job considering this was made on Compo timelines!
For your hard work I've decided to award you the **The Theme Was The Baddie All Along** award! Don't spend it all in one place.
